Sometimes vanlife can be fun and freeing. Other times, vanlife can be exactly like regular life. Because who are we kidding, we are still living regular life.
Today wasn't the best day. It ended well but I spent a good portion of the day nursing a headache and feeling poorly. That's life. we have good days and not so good days.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

I am thoroughly enjoying this channel! Your demeanor is incredibly laid-back and authentic, which creates a calming atmosphere for each video. Your approach to each topic is well thought out and articulated, keeping me fully engaged throughout the entire video. I always come away feeling relaxed and informed. Your talent for creating content that truly resonates with me is remarkable. Keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks dude
Exactly how I feel..I look forward to it❤
I love laying on my bed late at night and watching these videos.
I dont think there will be one hater in the comments section of all his videos. Its so good and authentic.
I tell myself, I say self, we probably should cut back on our caffeine intake... and then we both get a good laugh...
That’s a funny one!
Watching the commercials helps Scott make more money so if you can watch two or three commercials per video it would be a help ❤
I know how you feel, I can't take laundry detergent smells. Feel better. Thank you for taking us along on your trips.
I call the laundry detergent aisle at the market "the chemical aisle", lol. So yes, it is a problem for me too. It's called Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. We can only take so much.
Those waves! …. Just awe inspiring. I hope your head improves & thank you for sharing your journey.
I must say I love quietness
me too
I really appreciate you. Thank you❤
Thanks for that
Very helpful video for headaches! Thanks, Scott.
Your living your best life. Seems you identify with what your body needs and respond to that. Good tips for van living and keeping yourself healthy. Your narrative is interesting and authentic. Thankyou.
Thanks Jeanie
I admire how you’ve figured out how to do all of the things and take care of yourself in the van. The lack of space makes me hesitant to do the things like cook lol. Love your videos
On the subject of coffee ...I enjoy your coffee making sections they put me in mind somewhat of the Japanese tea ceremony ☕ mindful in its own way x
That’s my intention when making coffee. I like taking my time and brewing slowly
I appreciate your sharing how sensitive you are to the chemical aromas. I know the bombardment by scents can make me feel nauseated. And one never knows where the scents will show up (trapped on public transportation, for example). Interesting heating pad! I went back and watched/listened to this one twice. Things I appreciated - the Tetris use of your kitchen space; those beautiful blue/brown eggs. And, especially, appreciating your skill at selecting residential neighborhoods for overnighting. I feel I'm learning more about how to look at neighborhoods where i could overnight in my van. Tks!
Happy to hear you liked this one. Regarding parking in residential neighborhoods, when we park near an apartment complex, people assume we are either new, visiting, or dating someone that already lives there.
That said, at the moment, I'm parked in front of a million dollar single family house. No one seems bothered by my presence.
@@StaticCamperVan Don't know how you get away with parking at apartments..those security guards beeline straight for me whenever I did that..however I'm usually targeted most times so there's that.
@@grimberet1570 that’s an easy one to answer. I Never park on an apartment complex’s property. I will only ever park on the street like I showed here in this vlog.
@@StaticCamperVan Yeah that was probably what I did wrong..lol thanks for clearing that up.
As an Asian I'm impressed, those are some good-looking rice!
I’m drawn to your vibe and the vibe of your subscribers ☺️ thanks for being you.
When you mentioned the laundromat and your sensitivity to the chemicals it made me think of Kate at little boho cottage, that’s her channel
Dude take care of yourself ❤ you are well regarded and appreciated
Magnesium is really helpful to ward off migraines, being a sufferer most of my life. Thanks for showing Oregan me these beautiful areas, Im from Australis and have enjoyed the vid.
Wow!
Such a beautiful spot!
Well this is another old video, so content is long past and kinda makes my response redundant..
LoL
So maybe i will just say....
Think happy thoughts Scott!
And they will lift you up!
( It Worked For Peter)
Safe and happy journey, wherever you are.
🥀🤗🥀
Ps
Come and get me and take me to that wondrous place!!!
LoL, don't panic...I'm just funin ya!!
💝!
Thank you for going to the trouble to make and post these videos.
Turn the sleeping bag inside out and lay on the flannel. This should be more comfortable!
I have three pairs of flannel sheets. Sheets are easier to launder than a sleeping bag.
@@StaticCamperVan I meant turn it flannel side out and lay the sheets on too. It should be more comedy and less crunchy material. Just a thought. I lay my sheets on top of a comforter.
It must be such a great feeling to be able to go wherever you want at any time. I can't wait to start doing it around September.
In my case, that’s not exactly accurate. But yes I do have more freedom
Congrats on getting out. September will be here before you know it
The sea n rock footage was awesome
Thank you
My watching of this was timely as I was out for the last 24 hours with a migrain. I have liquid minerals but did not equate taking them specifically for migrain - will experiment. Yep, those fragrances are awful and I avoid the detergent aisles like the plague. That Brookings area is beautiful.
Wow Alot of chemicals and funky smells from crowded Laudrymats 😒🥴 Fresh Air & organic laundry detergent is best & go when it's off hrs.👍🤞👌✌️🙌🙏🇺🇸🌞
Glad you're feeling better, I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Thanks so much
Closing in on 20,000 subs keep up the good videos
Thanks Max.
Your channel is so relaxing to watch. 😏
Thanks!
Thank you amit!
Hey just an idea maybe you should look into removing your passenger seat or put something on top like a piece of wood and make a box overtop your seat on the passenger side then you can put some of your clothes there and some on the floor then you’ll have more room underneath your bed that’s what I did
I need the seat. It’s not legal to for people to sit in the back of the van since there aren’t seatbelts back there.
That area is called the banana belt of the coast, seeing Harris Beach brings back many childhood memories. Fresh sea air ought to clear the head. I hate the smell of all that crap they scent laundry products with. 😒
Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you beat the headache.
Beautiful skies! I love the clouds...
Ha ha, your so funny the way you said, " you all know I'm probably gonna drink some coffee"....i do the same thing. Actually, i get a headache without coffee. Lol😊😊😊
I add a few pieces of pink salt to my water and tea. I hope it is working. I add crushed lava rock to my garden for minerals in my food. I drink rainwater. I am grateful I never get migraines, they are terribly debilitating.
Glad you avoided a migraine, I call that a win! I have triggers for those that I work to avoid too!
Sensitivity issues are no stranger in my life either, I'm autistic and sensory processing issues as part of that, which is why I keep a pair of ear protection, a good N95 mask, and dark glasses at hand. I too look at reviews for places and do walk through a before I commit as well, it's the smart thing to do, just like adding minerals to RO water. For me, RO water is always safe as long as I remember to add minerals back into it. One of my weird sensitivities is water is either safe for me, or gets me sick straight away. (Speaking of which, the parking area by the sailing club at the Berkeley Marina has clean water that's not RO, but clean enough for me to enjoy!)
So yeah, Berkeley Marina for amostly quite, lovely place to be by the water, with bathrooms, and clean drinking water is a real win if you ever come through here!
Thanks for the info. It’s not likely that I will ever be in Berkley but I will remember if I ever do.
hi Scott,
your channel feels so authentic, listening to your soothing tones is relaxing and informative at the same time. I like the fact that you don't play for the camera, you don't overdo things in order to attract attention.
thank you for that.
Ferruccio from Venice, Italy.
Coffee is life!
I'm told it never rains in Southern California. 😎 Good solar too but no classic song title for that.
Thanks for showing Harris park in Brookings Ore.
It brings back 😥 memories. As my Father is buried there.
Hope your felling better.
Yup, laundry products are s highly scented! Urgh it really is painful. So glad you got over it.
Oh my God that looks delicious A wrap with eggs very good
A dear friend is highly allergic to chemical scents. A chemist from GE suggest she use dawn for cleaning. Yes dawn dish detergent. It has been a game changer. She uses it for laundry and all household cleaning. I just started using in my laundry and am very pleased.
I prefer natural products. Dr. Bronner’s for me and Biokleen for my laundry.
Sorry about you headache hopefully it's gone soon. Have a good week.
You probably are aware that all my videos go up on a heavy delay. I’ve been headache free since. Thanks
I agree the strong odors of the detergents and fabric softeners make me I’ll and I get terrible headaches from strong perfume….fresh air does help
Enjoying your adventures. Thanks.
Oh no, i am sad to hear you are getting a migraine. I don't get migraines but am sensitive to strong smells and loud noise. Glad you are finally out of there at least. Bummer. No wonder you avoid laundry day. My daughter wears perfume. I only see her a couple times a year but the smell is torture. Of course i enjoy her hugs but wish she would remember that perfume is bothersome to me. Just realized i am rewatching an old video. Oops.
We here in Seattle r having more sun than Normal but we all love it…. We appreciate sun more than others cuz we don’t get sun like California, things r changing!
I am so sad to hear about your headache/possible migraine. Have you eaten some lunch? That might avoid a migraine? Glad you avoided it. I enjoyed your video and loved the gorgeous ocean views. So awesome.
Put on an N95 see if it helps.
12/10/22: 🙏🎄⛄Harbor looks like a Pacific Coast fishing town, like Coos BAY. Either way, maybe on has a Dungeness Crab to sell you. Glad you got out of the North Olympic Peninsula. Just be Careful, small Towns aren't all their cracked up to be ANYMORE. Stay SAFE always be aware of Surroundings, never pick up strangers.

Another beautiful ocean shot…thank you!
I'm still impressed about the way you manage to live in such a little place. Great to come to all these gorgeous places. I love the ocean, it's so beautiful. Hope you are ok and over your headaches. Wish you a good week to come and look forward to your next vlog on Saturday🙂.
Being that I’m normally outside, I don’t consider my living space small.
There will be new vlogs up before Saturday. I’m cranking the videos out this week.
Stayed in that area a few years ago I agree, just as nice as Brookings. Thinking about going back next summer.
Scott, you're always happy to get back to the ocean! I'm always in tears when I leave...And Harris looks like a nice beach! I sure use unscented everything (unless i choose an essential-oil bath, for example). I resent companies that produce perfumed garbage bags...the nerve!!! BTW I endure the ads but that "gut health" one is 13 mins long......so, no...sorry. 😎☕☕
So strange to see you exploring Brookings where I was with my van two weeks ago. I have issues with the low overnight temps since I have no furnace in my van and I rely on my big battery and low watt 12 volt blanket at nite. I thought to overnight a the state park but i have no shore power and the parks charge for electric even if you don’t use it. So, after getting too cold near 10PM I ended up driving south very slowly all night. I guess I have to do something about overnite heat.
There’s no way I could do without my heater. I don’t do well in the cold.
I have been to Brookings and it’s rained both times I was there. It is Beautiful
I'm trying to convince myself to do laundry too. It IS a chore.
Love, love love Brookings, have people that own some land north of there, and had a couple who lived there, It's Oregon's "banana belt" best weather on the coast!
Love your videos Scott from here in Australia🇦🇺.
l get headaches too would often wake with them . If they turned into a migrane it was awful would loose my sight couldn't drive as could hardly see.
Had an ex partner tell me l slept with my open and would stop breathing from tongue falling back . Then saw videos on here of others suffering with same problem and this guy recommended taping up mouth . 🙄 This helps you breath . l know sounds weird but l haven't woken with a headache since . Not saying use gaffer tape l use surgical tape as you can easily break it with mouth if needed . Word of warning l ain't a medical professional just a nut from Australia . But it help me . Look it up .
Well, you have a lot of company when it comes to migraines. Mine are so similar to yours with senses and chemicals, but I can stop breathing with some of the smells. So I know how careful one has to be. Don't ever come to Salt Lake City, Utah it is one of the worst cities for population and can take anyone's health down. I learned the hard way about that city. I hope you feel better tomorrow. Thank you for spending time today with us all. Take care and be safe
You should go up the Chetco River, it is so beautiful there!
I when i feel a migraine coming on, its a sign that I am dehydrated. Then I drink a lot of water, it goes away,
Hello there fellow traveler..... I am also in Brookings up near Mt Emily riding out the storm.....Heading south next week. Brookings and Harbor are wonderful towns with friendly folks and you found the best place to do laundry! Love your channel, keep on rolling. 😎🌎❤
Thanks Erin
...ahh inspite of the headache
The laundry is done for awhile
🙋♀️☕🌲
Oregon coastband beaches are truly awesome. It makes you want to dip a brush into some paint and forever capture it on canvas. Glad you conquered the headache. I kept dozing off listening to your voice, it is so calm and soothing you could make any topic of conversation sound interesting. I went to my local church's senior citizens Christmas potluck lunch today. I won Chick-fil-A gift cards for having eleven correct answers on a Christmas trivia game. So, here are 3 of the easier questions for you and whomever:
1) Which country is first associated with drinking eggnog during the Christmas holidays?
2) What is the name of the most popular Christmas song and what person is well-known for recording it?
3) What toy did Ralphie in "The Christmas Story" want more than anything else?
Let us all remember the true reason for the season, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ on a clear, starry night in Bethlehem.
Merry Christmas and God Bless!
Put on a face mask when you go in to do laundry that may help , I can’t cope with Claurin in indoor swimming pools same thing can’t cope with it , love to see you cook so much, love and hugs from the uk x❤
Thanks but that won't help. Toxins are absorbed through our skin as well as through the air
I've been in the thor's well area, yachats ro be precise, for the last few weeks. Dang, it would have been cool to run into you here, thors well is one of my stops since I've been here. I drove out from vermont in my minivan in 2021 and have been in oregon since mid august. Ha, I've been trying to head south too but sort of got hung up here ... in a good way. Love all the cool little parks along the coast. The laundromat in florence is pretty good, it even has a shower. ✌
There’s no better place than the Pacific Northwest!
Love the long videos!
Thanks Art. I’ve a number of longer vlogs in the pipeline.
What a gorgeous place! I would think that drinking in the ocean air would be beneficial to clear your head from the fragrances. Perhaps it was helpful?
Not sure. But getting away from the chemicals that bother me seemed to help a great deal.
Scott you are so funny about the coffee situation but drink lots of water too it’s good for you I drink at least 8 to 10 cups of green tea a day maybe that’s not good for either I drink eight bottles of water a day
Is that a turkey?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of liquid minerals or coconut water.
Although i have aged out my migraines, my oldest son suffers from then and i have passed on your suggestions.
Glad your are feeling better.🙏👍🙏
The hardest part about migraines is figuring out one’s triggers. Remedies really vary person to person. I hope your son can get his figured out.
I am so glad you didn't get a migraine. I felt bad for you.
Thanks. There’s some advantages to always being close to home. I’m lucky to have a nice, comfortable space.
Thank you again... lovely video. Hope you feel better.
Been headache free ever since, Thanks
I also have to move, Shuffle and or get rid of stuff to bring something new in😇
u can make tea from pine tree needles
Chemical scents can exacerbate headaches. I'm very sensitive to that as well. Different natural remedies always does the trick. Some might take awhile or work rapid but it's what I prefer than over the counter. I just found out that altitude can affect some people. It's called altitude sickness something like that. I'll be traveling west soon so I will keep that in mind to prepare myself. I've suffered a headache this past few days hoping it's not the Canadian wildfires that has had some impact on the North East of the US.
I wish we would all go to fragrance free and those eco sheet laundry soap. It is so easy to carry, and no real waste it comes either in a pouch or cardboard box like dryer sheets.
Glad you’re feeling better. What a spectacular view of the ocean!
It’s a dreamworld here!
Hi.just a thought.i had a friend that was a dry cleaning engineer.he found out annoyingly after he retired that the dry cleaning fluid was the reason he had very sensitive skin, also that it was cassanagenic & noratoxic.(probably spelt wrong).if the laundry mat you used had a dry cleaning machine in it could be the reason for your headache.glad you feel better take care.
the bag under the beding may get rid of the headache
Awesome scenery. I am a new subscriber. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for following Gwen
The Oregon coast is beautiful from North to South. PS: You should cruise the Columbia River Gorge some day, if you have not already done so. Waterfalls galore & some of the world's most spectacular scenery. Great vids, stay well.
A weather phenomenon known as the "Chetco effect" or the "Brookings effect" can cause the temperature in Brookings near the Chetco River mouth to be much higher than the surrounding area.
You're getting a lot of suggestions for headache relief..I still stand by the activated charcoal..works beautifully!
I like the places you visited on the coast ...
beautiful places
Life on the road... 😂
As a pilot, I find trying to do laundry on weekdays is so much better than Saturday/Sunday!!
Yeah....a bit of tap water vs reverse osmosis is important.....they actually add the same salts, etc to bottled water....(actually drove for a trucking company during a layoff, and companies like Poland springs use (literal) tons of salts, etc in making their water palatable).
Have found so many laundromats that stink or have crazy pricing...like $$$ wash but free drying, etc...it's interesting..
Most interesting is having like 75% of the machines broken like my favorite place currently in Pismo beach Californian.
Life on the road....out till after Christmas, 😆
Try a good hat when you sleep, it can make even a cold. Hotel room warmer ...but a cold ice pack helps some on your eyes .
Pretty sure that I went to this laundromat on a weekday.
Like I explained in the vlog, heat works better for me than cold. You might have missed a bit.
@@StaticCamperVan yeah... watching it...even editing it as you talk. Life is a good man, enjoy life just chilling in a hotel (low end, 😂, kinda similar to a van, debated it many years)l, but living with stuff from a local store (usually traders Joe's or grocery outlet for the weekend).
Rainy, but at least the California cost price of gas had dropped a bit...filled up at a local place at 4.39 cash/4.49 credit...still.about +$1 be the east coast (was also a liquor store, lol) 😂.
Enjoy, van life, etc can be very popular for many flight crews, both as an escape, and as a cheap way to live when not on a paid trip for our companies. Great to see you enjoying life!!!
Don't be afraid to venture away from you previous locations!!
Wherever there's a Static around usually there's a Camper Van following right behind. Oh & those were some healthy, healthy looking eggs you got there. I continue to add on to this comment but yeah that camping scene/spot was Spectacular, just simply Amazing!
Coffee scented dryer sheets only!
Haha. I spill enough coffee that those aren’t necessary
Lol!
A 3M respirator might be useful for when you do laundry although it might look strange
Those fragrance chemicals go through respirators. The chemicals also enter our system through our skin. The only real way to avoid getting sick is to stay away.
@@StaticCamperVan How about that apparatus the boy in the bubble wears?
So jealous u got out!! Lol I'm STILL stuck here in Tacoma WA trying to get my rig camp ready n depression is REAL! 😭 HAPPY TRAILS n enjoy the sun for those who are still stuck!! ❤️👍💯
New subscriber. Really appreciate your videos. Well done 👏
Thanks Robert
Hi! Scott! The Oregon coast is very beautiful! Love being at the beaches there too! I use to live in Northern California. Hope your headaches get better. Thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas! ❤
Thanks Rain
There is a place in Southern California that you can trade clothes and then there is a place you can sell your clothes
Brooking is cool we went hiking in area down there towards the interior of the town. We thought it was the Oregon Redwoods, but wasn’t. It was really cool, free and had no problem in a rented dodge caravan, but with rain right now though it might be a little more sketch when pavement turn to dirt.
A Brookings local was telling me about a project that started planting Redwoods around the area. Apparently, Redwoods are native to that area because the trees don’t observe the California/Oregon border.
The music and scenery are beautiful in the introduction 😍😍🥰
Yellowbird sauce said that:
Hi Scott, i've seen u before with pizza, burrito or somewhere..
What did Yellowbird Sauce say? I don’t understand.
@@StaticCamperVan Hi Scott. Just joke :) U love yellow bird sauce but long time not used it.
