    I got lucky for once LOL! Got to one of those "golden" Pi apparently. I cranked the CPU to 1450 and all the other frequencies to 500. Stress tested it for two hours and no crash or anything! Using a small aluminum heatsink and a tiny fan inside a plastic case. It even booted at 1550!!! But it crashed under 5 min haha. Thanks for the tutorial, super helpful!

    I just used this tutorial combined with your move recent how to overclock the raspberry pi4 video to update my new retropie loaded micro SD i recently received. I went into terminal from retropie, i edited the config from terminal, i overclocked the cpu to 2000, gpu to 650, overvolt to 6. MUCH more snappy. Thank you for all your tutorials.

    Great video, thank you! My pi 3 actually booted just fine at 1.5GHz, but it wasn't stable during the stress test. I ended up backing it down to 1.45 and now it seems fine. I have both the core_freq and cpu_freq set to 500.

      If i set arm_freq more than 1400 for example 1450 my raspberry pi3 couldnt boot.
      But maybe it was because i set over_voltage only for 4 or 5

      Dang you got a sweet little pi haha. I could only get mine to run with the CPU @1400 and GPU @500. After doing some reading and measuring CPU usage during N64 gameplay it seems N64 benefits more from GPU overclock than CPU.

    I just did this overclock process to my Pi 3 B board. First, I have to say that this was an incredibly easy process. Thanks for creating this video. Second, I noticed a very big difference when running the N64 emulator. It's not entirely perfect, but it's now playable and not annoying.
    Next, I will try out the image smoothing settings for N64 to see if that enhances it even more.
    Thanks again!

    great video tutorial and ty for the overclocks. Managed to get 1.4ghz but it was unstable. Settled for a 1.35ghz overclock. So far no issues, Im running with heat sinks and a clear case with holes in it for air flow/escape. Might buy another sense there so cheap to try the silicon lotto/mess around with a 2nd one. Thanks. I recently got some of those cheap heatsinks with adhesive packs off eBay and the highest I could go without the system locking up completely is 1.35gHz with my official Pi case on it (completely closed). I would like to get a proper fan and scrape off the adhesive and just use some cooling compound with it.

    Going to be my third Pi 3. Planning on putting this one inside of my end-table with the glass top. Will submerge the device in mineral oil, since mineral oil doesn't conduct electricity it'll make for great cooling. Along with a few LED lights in it, it should make for an interesting piece for the living-room.

    thank you so much, tried googling but only came up with confusing answers. I wanted to set my nes/snes to integer 6x 5x and have the crt_pi shader on . Hello! Thanks for this video. I was wondering what temperature was safe for the PI 3? I received mine at 1.2GHZ and it runs at about 52C / 125F. I overclocked it to 1.4GHZ, it works great but I'm concerned it gets too hot. It's currently running at 69C/156F (after trying a few dreamcast and N64 games..). Will the system shut itself down if it gets too hot? I installed aluminum heatsinks.

    Hi, thanks for the video's. They are much easier to follow than some of the other site that try to explain too much and end up confusing you. I did have a question that maybe you can help me with. I am using the quad boot on my rp3, but there are bunch of config files ( i believe because there are 4 partitions). Is it possible to modify the just the config file for retropie/emulation station so that i can be overclocked for gaming, but with pixel, plex, or kodi? Not sure where to look or which file to modify. Any ideas?

    arm_freq=1500
    gpu_freq=525
    core_freq=525
    sdram_freq=500
    over_voltage=6
    v3d_freq=525
    force_turbo=1
    avoid_pwm_pll=1
    disable_splash=1
    avoid_warnings=1
    you can bump up arm, gpu, core, sdram, v3d but i've found this to be very stable even with average fan and heat-sinks.
    currently using an Invasion case by C4 labs and have yet to see it break 40*C
    whatever the "smooomo=000x200000" setting is causes a lot of instability

    Perfect tutorial, I just overclocked the pi3b to 1.35ghz. Have heatsinks with artic silver paste on both the cpu and gpu but only running a 2a powersupply. Do you think it's safe to overclock to 1.40 or over? Is there a big difference in performance?

      I would run a stress test to check for stability as well as to see how high the temperature goes on your heat sink before raising the bar. Even if you're not concerned about the pi burning up, you probably dont want it to crash.

    Great video. Whats your opinion on running these setting...
    gpu_mem=400
    arm_freq=1350
    over_voltage=5
    sdram_freq=500
    core_freq=500
    gpu_freq=450
    Also do you know what the default values are for the above setting? Because I'm not even sure how much of an overclock that is applying :/

      Content Cleaner get a cheap case with a fan, and buy some decent heatsinks made for the pi, the fan and case can be cheap, just make sure the heat sink isnt

    would a 1.5 ghz overclock be over_voltage=6 or 7?

    I believe you made an error in your notepad file and video.
    #arm_freq=800 should go in line 43 to change back to default settings
    Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

    I overclocked it to 1.4ghz and used copper shim plates w/ silver compound. After playing the N64 emu for a few minutes the system freezes. Any thoughts?

    What kind of performance are we gaining here? I was attempting to play Castlevania Symphony of the night on PsX and had stutter randomly every 30 seconds or so. I'm wondering if this would take care of that issue.

    I don't have those entries on line #42, mine is something about #HDMI_Mode=10. Can I paste the over clocking commands into any line? I did a search and didn't see anything close to how line #42 reads, or line #43 in this video.
