  • Johnny Clarke is known for his "African Roots" or knee-length dreadlocks, which, when performing live, he frequently conceals inside a large hat. At the climax of his concert, he removes his hat, revealing his "African Roots" to the audience. The first song I heard from Johnny was - MOVE OUT OF BABYLON about 1974/75. A true icon & contributer to Reggae Music. May he continue to please & entertain lovers of Reggae Music.

My school mate. Although poor in academics, he was agile on the football field, always singing, seizing opportunities to bang on the piano, running away when the headmaster came - chased me with a big rock stone when my friends and I teased him, caused me to get my first caning.
That guy was of another order. Now we know. Kudus to him. I have one prayer for him: that he would come to know his Saviour who died to save us all from our sins. I've come to know him, so may he.

First heard of Clarke cited in reggae editorials in the 80s then later thru biographies on Waptrick. The cassette release Authorized Version was my real introduction to Johnny Ckarke.

What's the name of the song behind all the documentary? In fact, in all Reggae Gist Xtra has this tune. If you could help me to know the group and the name of the song, I appreciate. One love from Brazil.
