I discovered your channel months ago. I'm from Brazil and here unlike "commercial" reggae; dub, dancehall, and ragga are not popular. But they are my favorite musical styles. I always come here to learn about the culture I love so much! Thank you!
Once again, you did a great job with this video. Tubby was the true master of dub. Scientist still plays live shows from time to time and is still in demand. His live mixes are really a treat
He is definetly a king. First time I came in contact with Dub was the Ticklah radio station on GTA Chinatown Wars (yeah Im quite young). King Tubby is one of my fav artists in this genre, you can hear the warmth of his amps in almost every song, this gives the music its almost dirty vibe, but I think this is what jamaica is, warm but ruff. Thank you for those really interesting and informative videos!
I an a black man living in London England and I grew up with the music of Tubby as a child and have been studing his music ever since. Now at 63 when I play his music I still can't believe what I am listining to. For the last 20 years I have been producing music in the style of Tubby in many different genres. Many people around the world produce dub but they can't do it like Tubby but I actualy can. When I heard that he was murdered I could not forgive myself for not going to look for him when he was alive. As you know he made a few albums however it was the 45s that were the real meat and drink, I have the majority of his work. The collection has taken 50 years to get hold of. You have produced a great piece of work here.
I stumbled upon king tubby this past summer and then eventually got into lee perry, the aggrovators, prince far i, mikey dread. This sound have changed my life
Another amazing man. Why do Jamaicans do this to their own? It's no lie It's bad mind, they've done this to a lot of their stars. But I definitely agree with the comment which said Jamaica needs a museum showcasing all of these genuises ❤
I used to go to the local record stores in the 90's and search for used reggae CD's. Much of the time I had no idea who they were, but if it looked like it might be roots I would take a chance. Most of the time the mystery bands were disappointing and would turn out to be dance hall etc and I would sell them back again. One time I bought a King Tubby's greatest hits and what a treasure! Still listening to it...
Another great video, thanks. What a revolution he launched throughout music in general. As great as that of reggae itself, possibly. Punk gigs circa '77 got me on to Rockers and Dub. Long time ago, but I'm still listening to Tubby, Perry, etc.
Thank you for this movie. It brought me back to my first spliff when me and the boys discovered reggae, not only as music, rather as a spirit and lifestyle to come closer to peace, love and yah…❤
I have been learning for 40 years. In music technical college the tutors wondered how I could do such things, indeed I had to show them how it was done. Let's not forget, mimicry is the greatest form of flattery. We all love Tubby.
I came to love King Tubby but came to his music in my late thirties. His force and influence is unparalleled for me. Without compare. What an amazing cache of music he left for everyone. I listen to him every day, wish I'd known 30 years ago. It's hard to imagine what music would be today without him. RIP King
I never knew king tubby was named after president tubman,my dad give me an African shirt once an said this is president tubman on it...I always where it,its that classic African polo shirt style...
Tubby! Legend. I got "meets rockers uptown" as one of my first dub albums. It's never left the turntable since dat day! But I was always amazed at the photos cause he not look like all the dreads, ragamuffins and reggae rebels. He just look like a normal guy. but he was behind all that deep, beautiful dub. Now I get it. King Tubby live forever 🇯🇲
RAS, you are a saint, mi bredder😂❤💛💚🤙. I was busy yesterday as this video came on, a miracle as my lifelong Hawaiian bredder was helping me move while testifying how Jesus changed his life. Kept me positive as i humbled my racist neighbors, laughing as i moved to my peaceful new home. 😅This video was an answer to my prayers, we all needed to hear this one especially at that right time. Meeting the rockers uptown 😅, that was always my favorite but i didn't know was everyone else's too lol. I had to entertain my friends yesterday for helping me move but im glad the 1st thing i did today was to thank and congratulate you for delivering crucial wisdom once again. You are forIver part of my prayers and nuff respect RAS 🙏 🤙. Selassie I live!
Tripping tunes, the whole mix of effects expanded my buzz to another level beyond the sigh of those who have no vision, other genes of music tried to follow but lacked the dept and class of the originators, the old school still sounds fresh to this day :)
I love the way you deliver these stories and lessons. You are a fountain of facts, not a flood of fluff. You say only what needs to be said and no more. Much respect. I wish you good luck and good health. Keep the reggae appreciation growing. 💯
Tubby was DUB.i have all his lp... when a.pablo & tubby got together the sound was out of this world.... there will never be a sound like that again.., when it thunder's in the sky I say tubby is having a DUB version of all DUBs....
Carly played drums. Despite popular belief i dont think tubbs mixed much of that lp..think it was mostly philip smart..pablos friend who he introduced to tubbs and went on to record most of pablos work round tubbys studio. Tubby didnt spend much time in studio after setting it up and mixing early dubs for glen brown, yabby you, rupie edwards etc..he concentrated more profitable buisness of building amplifiers. Often on releases it says king tubby(s) which means the studio not king tubby himself. Pat kelly and phillip smart mixed a lot of dubs in mid 70s often credited to tubbs. Nice to see tubbs getting recognition he deserves even if its taken 40 years and the recent popularity of reggae outside of jamaican culture
Jamaica needs a music museum, to tell all these interesting stories about all these great artistes.
Striker Lee son is making a museum.
King Jammys also making a museum 🎵💥🎶💥🎵

It waz ALBERT MALAWI
Incorrect. The Barrett Bros made up the rhythm section
