This is probably the only yurt I've seen that inspires me to live in a yurt. The only thing I'd add is built in wardrobes with sliding doors around the centre cube.

Just saw your appearance on the tiny house show, and I'm really surprised this project has so little views. It's absolutely incredible, interesting and entertaining. @@unnatisheregar4953 Yes. The outside covering is water proof and the circular shape helps divert heavy wind around the structure. You have to be careful of any large trees located around the yurt. The yurt would not do well if a tree fell on it.
@@zachboth I mean in southern parts of India as the rains are really harsh here.

Trying to build something close to Nature because Nature is spiritual and Nature is powerful. Would you say your experience with being more engaged closer with nature living in a Yurt has been a positive experience for your family?

Nice job! I used to live at the Pumpkin patch back in 07 with Craig who runs the Maize. I’m in the works of putting one up next year and have been thinking about what deck design I want to use. You built yours rock solid for sure! I will definitely use some if not all of that design. Your interior is amazing! I might need to steal that loft bedroom design as well.

After seeing this yurt on another channel I'm obsessed with Yurts now! It is my primary goal to now build my own. One thing I can't seem to find anything on though, how are the walls? Does the whole thing shake if I were to somehow fall against the wall?
Walls don't shake. The thousands of pounds from the weight of the roof is putting pressure on the walls so they don't move

What would you do if you had to be able to make it hold 32 pounds per square foot of snow because of where you want to build it. How would you modify it for that? Thank you.

2 Questions.
1. Can you recommend a building engineer that I could use.
2. Is there an insulating benefit to having the yurt off the ground, verses the thermal mass benefit?
I believe the yurt is off the ground so it makes it easier to level. Also, if it is not elevated then they may have had to build a foundation do to construction ordinances.
Can it withstand in heavy rains?
YES!
Love the white lattice. Did you paint after you put it in place or was it pre-painted at the factory? Same with the rafters. Thanks!
Painted it after the fact. Once the walls were up.

Is there a way to open up the “windows” on this thing for more ventilation? I’m loving the whole Yurt style house, but I can’t imagine having to live there in a humid and/or tropical climate.
Theres versions with real sliding glass windows
The dome on top opens up as well as some of the windows. There's also the big french doors up front and door in the back. On hot days we usually have all of them open.

What is the yurt dimensions?
I've always wanted to build something like this! However, what are the legalities? I know that if you wanted to build something, like say, a tiny home...there are some restrictions about living their full time. Is that the same for this yurt?
That is entirely dependant on where you live.

Is this a kit Yurt? Can you share where you got the kit?
The yurt kit is from Rainier Outdoor. Stained and painted most of the woodwork which is why it looks so different from the normal kits.

How many sq ft is your yurt. If I'm interested who to contact?
This 30.5ft diameter yurt has around 730 sq ft. With the added bed platform, it is closer to 900 sq ft. The yurt kit is sold by Rainier Outdoor (rainieroutdoor.com/). If you contact them, tell them you heard about them through the Do It Yurtself project!

Interesting. Don't think this is a "do it yourself project", their are many others helping. The Austin Powers music does this video no justice but at least video exists.

Its defeating the purpose of a yurt. A yurt is supposed to be a transportable tent. This looks more like a house built like a tent.
Kinda defeats the purpose of "how to do it yurtself" if we see it go from kinda finishing the outside to immediately having too many shots of glamorous absolutely done shots 🤦♀️. Was hoping to see you finish the inside a bit too
This video is meant to be a brief overview of how to build a yurt. The interior can be anything (and follows more traditional building methods which you can find better tutorials elsewhere). I have some footage of building the interior but it isn't nearly the same quality of footage. DoItYurtself.com has more details and photos on the interior build.
Will you be doing a video on the interior buildout?
I've got some footage, but it's lower quality and more sporadic. Probably don't have the time, unfortunately.
