  • After completing Do It Yurtself (doityurtself.com), Nicole and I decided not to renew our lease which meant deconstructing and taking the whole yurt down. Luckily, we found a good new home for the yurt on the other side of the country. Sad to see it go, but excited for the next chapter.
Thanks to those who have followed along on this journey! Hope the information helps with your own yurt adventure.

I thought I was going to be sad watching this, but the time lapse and music just made it beautiful.

I watched almost all of your (really well made) yurt construction videos and its sad to see it go but I am confident you will build it even better in the new place! Best of luck to both of you.

Very well done construction, I too am in Oregon and I was surprised you did things by "code" I assumed it was going to be permanent when you went to that extreme. I too am building my own yurt on my property as an off grid, no code just what I want. In near Lyons Or, near Portland, we got ours from pacific yurts in cottage Grove, maybe not as "elaborate" as yours but a 30' it is going to be as much of a pain tho as yours. I would never have done that much work on leased land 🤔 but hey... Nice work all of you 😉

We certainly learned some lessons this time around! Good luck with your build :)

I believe a yurt fulfills its purpose every time it is taken down and relocated- well done. In hindsight, would you have constructed it any differently initially for the sake of resources (time, energy and money) to tear down, and reconstruct? Looking forward to seeing how you put it back together.

Had I known at the beginning that we would be taking it down a year after building it, I would've done a lot of things differently. Pier block foundation instead of footings and likely no drywall. They would've been great choices if the yurt was much more permanent.

NotMikeDeWine they did take it lol did you not see? You can’t take it whole, they deconstructed it so they can reconstruct on another land.
