    I really like this review @Shroom. Really appreciate your unbiased opinion, particularly as you’ve put your money where your mouth is.
    With regards to the removal of anti-reverse switch, I think that’s a step forward as it removes an opening where nasties could get in the internals. It’s something I felt was a bit out of place and a bit of a throw back in my 18 Exist, since Shimano has been phasing those switches out on their reels for many years. I wonder if the removal of the anti reverse switch improves the sealing and will help the reel keep its smoothness longer ?

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Alf, that means a lot to me. Yes, I thought about that, it can be a big positive in that regard. I was just thinking in terms of an inshore reel that gets babied a bit but very valid point

  • @soobz

    Good honest review. The price thing has gotten a bit crazy IMO, this reel is nearly twice as much as a Certate, and 3x more than a Saltist MQ, and both are extremely nice reels. Sure, part of the high price is the snob factor, it's supposed to be expensive and hard to afford so you can feel special. Winemakers worked that out a while ago. For $1150 though, I'd still expect a way better handle, a spare spool, and as you mention some bling. It's nice they managed to make the plastic look metallic, but the plainer it is the more the scuffs and scratches will show up. Nobody buys a sports car and says, hey don't paint it and put in a cheap steering wheel please. BTW, I can afford this reel, but thanks to those who do and fund the R&D for the reels I will buy.

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot and it would be nice if they came with a spare spool but unfortunately they don't. They also cost a lot more than a usual spool which is absurd. The price of a spool is as much as a mid range reel!

    Great review champion, I have now been a member of the shroom club for 1 years and 3 days, it's been well worth it, as my fishing has improved so much better since watching your tutorials and tips, so happy to support the channel for another year to come, keep up the awesome work Pete, and thank you for making my life and fishing so much better, I hadn't owned a fishing rod for over twenty years, but loved fishing as a youngster, but getting older working and relationships, put fishing on the back burner, and i had only used bait, and never lures, until I came across one of your videos on TH-cam a few years ago, and was instantly interested again, and wanted to try lure fishing, and now it's all i think about, and spend my money on, given me that drive i had when younger, so thanks for your inspiration and help over the last year, and the year before, it's been a pleasure seeing the success you and the Chanel are going through, and all the great guests you have, so thanks again Pete, can't wait to see what is coming over the next years,

    The only other reel in Diawa's lineup that uses AirDrive is the Tatula LT MQ.
    Oddly it is priced below the BG MQ but has 2 more bearings than the BG.
    Granted the Exist is a lot more $ so you are obviously getting a higher quality product though I do have to say that the Tat MQ is a lot of reel at the price point.
    I love my 2500D-XH. I run Invisx 12lb on it.
    I may pull the trigger on an Exist eventually though.

    Hey shroom, do you think it’s worth the extra money over the certate? I’m just catching trout for the most part (melb based). I’m literally just about to buy a new reel and have my eyes on either the certate or exist

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are both very different reels. Firstly, price is very different and the year model. The Exist just came out whereas the Certate has been around for a few years. Secondly, certate is intended for heavier applications and built accordingly (aluminium body which adds weight). The Exist is lighter and probably a great fit for trout fishing but it's not built to withstand the same trauma that a certate might. One final point which is worth considering is that if weight is a big deal (which it probably is) there are also cheaper options that can do the job (Luvias Airity, Revelry FC, normal Luvias etc.). However, you can't go wrong with either option, the Certate's although heavier aren't nearly as heavy as their predecessors

    • @VeryOkay
      @VeryOkay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShroomFishing thanks for the knowledgeable reply shroom, I’ve just ended a run with a luvias (killed it) and I have had a certate in past that was brilliant! My budget currently does allow for an exist, but I am pretty tough on my reels too. I’m wondering if the certate is a smarter option with the maintaining of the reel also. Exist could get very $$$ if I break anything

    I love Daiwa products, but realistically I don't think they're trying to justify the price. In fact, I think he's behind Daiwa and the Shimano symbiosis company. Shimano's trying harder, that's obvious. Daiwa protected Magsealed's patent, but everything else is a copy of Shimano

    Great review, thank you. I hoped you might share your opinion as to the 2500-XH model with the 6.2:1 gear ratio. I normally prefer 3000 sized reels but as you know the gear ratio is only 5.2:1 and it is not being offered in the 3000 with the 6.2:1. I'm leaning toward the 2500-XH, compromising to the smaller spool (and 11 lb. max drag vs like 22 lbs on the 3000D) rather than having to find out over time whether the 5.2:1 speed leaves me disappointed. What are your thoughts regarding these concerns?

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Bruce. I think it's a tough decision when you can't get both requirements and need to pick one or the other. My guess is that the 3000D with 5.2:1 will be a better fit for you if you are used to using 3000 sized spools so long as you're not spinning metals or lures at speed predominantly. If you are spinning metals, the 2500-XH is still not the right reel for you because although it is 6.2:1, chances are it won't be any faster in terms of absolute cm of line retrieval over the 3000D at 5.2:1 because being faster over a smaller spool diameter more or less should balance out with a slower bigger spool if that makes sense. Edit: I found out it's about 10cm difference in winding so a bit bigger difference than I thought so you'll have to weigh that up

      @@ShroomFishing Thanks again. Yep, you were right in terms of that 2500 smaller reel - I have some quality 2500 reels, but they're old enough to be deceiving because they were made somewhat larger back then. Once I received the 2500-XH and held it in my hand and turned the handle a bit, I knew right away I wouldn't be happy with it and I returned it. And like a guy whose heart was broken by the one he loved, I withdrew, and bought a Certate. I will revisit the Exist when they figure out that cutting out the CXH model probably wasn't a well thought out decision, and until then I can live without it!

    Hey Shroom, I got a potential video idea
    You could do a video testing different scents as there are many on the market and lots of people is unsure on what they should get.

      Nice idea Lucas, maybe in the future. It's very hard to test scents fairly in a video but I certainly have my favourites

    Mate, good video presentation on the reel. I think the reel is massively overpriced in $$s for a reel that has so much plastic in it. For the the $1000+ price tag, it want to be made out of titanium and kevlar. And what if you drop the reel and break the spool, the handle or the main stem. What is the $ price for replacement parts and labour to fix it. Looks a great reel and would last years of use. But for $1000+ price tag, tell them their dreaming. Cheers 👍

      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Trevor, the parts only get more expensive from there! I wouldn't mind a titanium reel but imagine the price lol

    Will you buy Stella FK for review?

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No longer Will, out of my budget and I had already seen glimpses of people having it already so it would have been risky spending that much for a reel that I would be getting my hands on a lot later and not having the potential to recoup some losses on videos

    • @ShroomFishing
      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree Scott, I caught some fish on the Revelry the other night and it's very smooth. Not quite Exist level but 99% of people would be happy fishing it considering the price savings

    Use the back wind to play large fish - understand removing on cheap reel, bot on a $1000 reel?

    • @ShroomFishing

      Yep, personally I'd rather have it than not but there are merits to having it removed

    Bought the reel. It was defective. Surprised that flag ship product would be defective out of the box. 2 to 4 weeks for warranty service. Not exactly best customer experience.

      @ShroomFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that, what happened? I'm no expert but if you buy a product and it's faulty (i.e., not fit for the purpose that it was intended for), you are covered in Australia for a full refund by consumer laws
