Here we are with the Ultimate Starter Guide for Steve Fox in Tekken 8! Here we will help you understand the importance of his moveset, strategies, combos and more! IMPORTANT POST PATCH UPDATE:
Lionheart stance finally actually works now, so the sections about all the weird counterplay stuff you have to do, you don't have to worry anymore. Now the mixup works as intended, in situations where are forced into lionheart with advantage frames, Lionheart 1 basically will beat the opponent if they try to press any button/do armour/try to duck, and once thats established then lionheart 1+2 is the guardbreak and you get guaranteed damage now. No more having to stance dance or abuse glitches(which has been patched out). The Mixups is now a proper mixup, rejoice!
I’m a proud member of secret Society of Steve’s
Don't miss us winning!
Very proud to join, used to be an exclusive Kazuya player.
Steve Fox, to me at least, is one of the best fighting game characters ever created.
A love letter to the sweet science.
Simply a Knockout!
His T8 combo though looks ugly though. Three continuous rear hand attacks while moving forward and the "windy" uppercut looks cartoony.
@@justaway6901 it's tekken, almost every combo looks cartoony.
OVER HERE !
He sucks in this game
@@Invader_Hexhe’s just not aesthetically pleasing to look at combo wise like the other guy said
I don’t even play TEKKEN 8 but I still sit through these hour long videos because I love how Rooflemonger teaches how to play all these characters 😂 thank you bro
Same bro, I watched his GBVR vids and I can’t even play the game since I’m on console😂
Finally here with the Steve guide. Didn't get those balance changes like I hoped, but at least there's a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel as explained in the 2nd Lionheart section, some advanced tech to make his lionheart stance more useful! Also I started the starter guide format to make the guides shorter, and here we are again with another hour long monster lol. I just like explaining things I cant help it
We'd rather have thorough long vids brother. Every time. We enjoy every vid you post.
Appreciate it! As a former steve main in tekken 7 it feels like he’s still stuck in that game. Everyone else got amazing new tools but he kinda feels meh in this game.
Awesome video, man o/
Just a quick note: ub2~b is also +14. It doesn't only guarantee a df1 2, it also guaratees a Sonic Fang.
Now if only Sonic Fang would wallsplat XD
@@lsv47 ub2 cancel does let you do sonic fang, but the timing is tighter cause you can't pre buffer anythihng cause you have to commit to the cancel vs df12 is mad easy so thats why I used that as the example instead
@@rooflemonger That is fair. And the reward on Sonic Fang isn't even that much bigger, either. You're righ, df 1 2 is kinda more bang for your buck.
Let's gooooooooo
love or hate him, you have to appreciate how unique he is compared to everybody else.
Steve grew to be one of my favourites to play back in Tekken 5 and 6, can't wait to see just what people can do with him in the competitive scene now!
You’re the man Roof. There’s thousands and thousands of folks like me that appreciate the work you put in and the knowledge/enthusiasm you have for these games. Keep doing what you do! I’m a counter hit addict, so I main Brian and Steve. This guide is tremendous.
Here we are with the Steve Fox Starter Guide! Steve is a very unique character in Tekken 8 that you can't really compare to anyone else, so the purpose of this video is to help you understand basically everything there is to know about him! From what he's good at, his whole whack of stances, a bunch of example combos and a bunch more to get you started on your Steve journey! Give the video a watch, like if ya liked it(timestamps for a video thats over an hour long? cmon, give a like!) and let me know what you think!
Thank you for the guide
Thank you!!!! 🙏🏾
Hey im just starting Tekken and im learning Steve. Advice on avoiding reliance on lion heart to create space as I find it's easier to input and is more evasive then learning any korean backdash of sorts .
@@kaiheaton4858 I say don’t avoid. Learn the situations where you should use it versus not using it. I learned that I often times go into the moves after the back step too soon and that can lead to a counter hit. If you wait for the opponent, most times they will whiff and you can attack at that moment from LH
I have waited SO patiently for this lmao thank you
Honestly I have no plans on playing this guy but had to click on the vid to like it. Your character guides and dedication to the FGC in general is absolutely next level.
One of your highest quality videos mate. Very good guide and well made.
really appreciate you making a guide on steve! hes looked really interesting and i havent found a good way to start learning him, so this has been a huge help! thanks very much
Thank you so much for the Steve guide man! I'm finally getting into fightning games and Steve is my guy! I really appreciate the extra help and breakdowns!
I never get tired of your intro.... heLLOOOOO. and WELCOME. i love it.
Thank you, good sir. Looking forward to watching multiple times.
I was waiting for this guide, and it was worth the wait, excellent guide, I appreciate
Thank you Roofle!! Been waiting on this one for a while!
Been waiting for this, thanks
awesome character breakdown as always
Note that with the reposition-shove, if you shove them into a wall, you wallsplat them and get a full wall combo. Same with his 1+3 side switch throw
Oooh good to know. Now I just need to get good enough at applying pressure to get someone to the wall in the first place.
@@adams3627wr 2 and 1+2 in heat mode give you a nice bit of distance if you commit to the heat dash, same with 3+4, 2. These moves are fairly common so there is some ideas there
@@baleeghishtiaq6444 WR means while standing up from a crouch, right?
no WR= while running@@adams3627 WS= while standing
@@adams3627WR I’m pretty sure means while running (now this part may be confusing) I think that usually use WS for the “while rising” attacks, I don’t know why, but that’s how I usually see it in videos and comments (and for reference the WR 2 would be FFF2 for the input)
Thank you for blessing us with this guide papa!
The three characters I wanted to try in this game were Kuma, Jack-8, and Steve. Now that Rooflemonger has done guides on them all (thank you for the quality education, sensei) I can stop having a character crisis over who looks coolest to character crisis over whose gameplan is most fun to do.
Your timing is perfect. I literally just started tekken and Steve caught my eyes so I picked him up. Being new to tekken it’s been very difficult because of how unique he is in general and i thought I doomed myself
I love the casual sarcasm at 43:12
It’s finally time, Thanks monger👌🏾
Thought I would just pick up Steve, and then I found out he is way more complex than I thought. Now I wanna learn him even more. Appreciate the thorough guide, man.
Thanks for the guide, this was great!
Love your positive energy. Great video!
Time for me to lock my self in a room for 2 days and learn my favorite character 🤞🏾❤️ thank you for all you do
This is awesome! I’m a huge fan of boxing characters and I really think Steve seems like he will be really cool and honestly every character will have their struggles so I really think I need to learn this game.
absolutely phenomenal
I love these guides so much they are very helpful!
I been playing Steve for while love this guy and always learning something new with him.
Straight up best guides on this site, even rivaling TBS complete breakdown videos
So awesome youa re doing these guides rooflemonger thank you! If you make more, i would love to see dragunov, bryan, and yoshimitsu! Cheers
I’ve been coming back to this video for the past week. Rooflmonger videos have never been more helpful for me than with tekken. I can remember a few moves and strings at a time but when every character has a 100+ move set I can always count on the ROOFLEMASTER to break down the moves and play style.
Tekken 8 is my first tekken game and ur vids have been helping alot, thanks for that.
Definitely got my thumbs up, you the best for creating this guide man thankyou…Mr fox will always be my favorite tekken character
Thank you very much for this best guide.
just got tekken 8 tonight. Loved hwaorang in t7 but i’ve been wanting to learn steve for years. very timely video
Been waiting for another one of these! Other than Paul (and maybe Kuma), I haven’t been interested so I’m happy to see a Steve guide! I’m still waiting for someone cool like Lili, Hwoarang, Jin, Devil Jin, or Yoshi.
I got King on tenryu cause of these guides (never played tekken before but other fighting games) thought i need to Pick someone Else cause variety. I watched this Guide a week ago and now im garyu with Steve. You guides are Amazing, i found you like 4 years ago and was never disappointed
this was a very solid video. thank you very much sir
Amazing guide, first tekken and picked up Steve, this guide really let me step up my game and discover how I wasn’t using Steve properly.
Imsane guide, thank you !!
as a new steve main, this guide was very constructive, thanks for the tips and tricks 👍
Also if you’re reading this, I just won 3 games In a row using stuff that I learned in this video!!!
I’m shinryu with Steve watching this cause I’m hard stuck I’m not going to lie playing Steve against these other hyper S tier characters is rough man
I cant get to gayru with steve but i climb to it in two days spammining 3 with Eddie
I'm flame ruler at the moment, I've been playing Steve only since Tekken 6 , and I can tell you something about the character, it is all about reading the opponent, Steve has basically no tools compared to the rest of the characters, this character trains you the most on how to read the opponent.
Great video with a good breakdown! Just a quick note. You can make Wildman fully safe with a duck cancel after the d2, 1.
So you go d2, 1, duck (f3), db, b. You can slide the duck to db, b. With some timing practice you can get this 100% of the time and it makes this combo godly for mixups.
Thanks, Steve scrub here.....only able to practice if I get time and enough energy left after school 🎒🥲
Scrub? Impossible! Steve mains RISE!
Keep up that grind ma man ✊️
bro if don't have enough energy as a kid i can't see you as an adult.. it's way more exhausting, and even then if you're a man, you never say that..
@@Sickklow bruh be quiet you don't know nothing about being a man if thats your mind set.
@@Sickklow bro stop
Finally a steve guide
Tekken 8 is the first in the series I've actually sat down to learn, nearly Garyu with Kazuya. Once i do that, Steve was the next character i wanted to pick up, so this should be helpful
Wow- this is actually perfect I just decided I’d start picking up Steve after getting Lee to red ranks.
Excellent guide brotha. First time Tekken player and have been wanting to co main Bryan and Steve...but have only been playing Bryan til now in anticipation of this video lol
Same bro
Can we all admit roof drops the best tutorials
such a fun character
Commenting on a great guide
One thing i want to add is about the sway grab which reposition the enemy ( it is much better at the wall whenever the enemy touch the wall because of it you have +10 guarranteed , depending on the angle it can go to (+16 ~+22 )
Even when the frame advantage isn't displayed it is guarranteed, Always worked like that
Great guide. Fun little tidbits about Steve: the grab out of sway gives you insane frame advantage when pushed into a wall. It allows a free 1,1,2. Df+2 from Peekaboo stance does not count as a punch and rather an elbow so punch counters from characters like Asuka don't work. This was evident in T7, while I still think this is true for T8 I haven't played enough to test it. Trying to get into the new game thanks to your guide lmao.
This was a knockout of a guide
Since my main since T2 Lei Wulong isn't here, I have picked up Steve. I'm enjoying using him, but there is alot to learn.
As a Steve main from Tekken 7, this is a really great guide for new players who want to get into the character in Tekken 8. Definitely sharing this with friends looking to learn the character, and I would honestly love to erase my memory on all the things I learned about Steve and learn him again with this video
thank you sir
Omg it's here!!!!!!
Something to add; the backsway reposition grab is great when at the wall, as it can cause a wall hit that can lead into a short combo, specifically 1,1,2. You can then cancel this into another backsway into grab and repeat ad nauseum until they decide to duck/low attack or break the grab.
I think it may be physically impossible to hate this character
Be wary of using ub + 3 to bait and evade Rage Art because it'll more often than not cancel the animation, lock you in place to eat that. Had it happen to many times. Great guide Rooflemonger!
Fein and Steve are the two characters I respect.
Cause I know if their a good player I'm going to get schooled with the dodges and counters.
I love how tekken 8 brings soooo much new comers and it's amazing. I've played previous ones in the past but never sat down and learned the ins and outs but this one I did that and im glad I did.
Awesome video, but one thing about the backsway 1+2 grab, if you push them into a wall you can get some mad + frames, and even guaranteed damage. The amount of + frames kinda depends on how far away you are when you push them into it, further away you get more frames.
Shinblade (like the #2 ranked Steve in the world) can get like 80+ damage off of just a wall shove near the wall, over 100 with heat.
Hey roofle monger, can we get the kazyya guide next please, I just bought the razer kitsune and I've been waiting on you to learn how to play kazyua best, love the videos and guides❤️
Tip for the wildman combo.. when your opponent reads the full 3 string and starts mashing you can link a cheeky B1 after to connect a Ch
Wonderful as I really wanted to try him out, with this guide it looks perfect for me!
literally no idea lol. Current plan is to survive going to the red bull kumite new york and then once i get back i start planning for the future
As a Voldo main and someone who loves stance characters and wishes to get better with Steve, I've have to say," Impressive, very nice."
Now all we need is Rooflemonger to convince Tekken Project to get Mike Tyson as a Tekken 8 guest character!!
A good easy basic sumary for steve's gameplan, mid screen you want to land a counterhit, launcher and carry them to the wall or heat engager move (use qcf1 mid check or 1+2 sonic fang as wiff punish), because this way you gain acess to his mix ups, after landing heat engager you are +17, u can mix with foot stomp low or qcf1 and heat dash out of it (its a launcher +5 on block), at the wall foot stomp has no reach problem and qcf1 wall splats for full wall combo, if the try to armor out of lionheart after being hit by the low, you can sway (b3 or b4) and do 1+2 (throw), it breaks armor and parries and wall splats for a full combo, if they dont press anything and eat the throw geting wall splated u get 112 followup. you can also check all his many wall splating moves to commit to at wall.
nooo I already fought like 6 steves today lol at least they'll learn :P
1:02:07 MY EYES ACTUALLY WENT CROSS EYED BRO IM TRYING TO UNDERSTANDDDD
I think the next guide id be interested in seeing would be a somewhat rarer character like zafina or shaheen, obviously do whatll get veiws but nothin wrong with spreading the love
5:54 I'm a beginner tekken player who play steve, and I just found out yesterday that, steve back 1 and then hold back to enter flicker stance, will let you duck [forward 3/4] faster compare to just back 1, allowing you to double ducking [forward 3/4 hold 3/4] and then launch them up [1] with more damage
although if you just [back 1] and directly duck [forward 3/4] you can still continue the combo but it deal less damage, than the double ducking version
Yes I am a fairly new Steve player but back 1 should ALWAYS cancel into flicker as it allows for safe offense. And a like u said CH B1 > FLK allows for Ducking In blue spark 1, which gives bonus combo damage.
Plz plz plz can u do one for Bryan. I find him so interesting and having you break down his kit would really help make him approachable cause he's really intimidating from hearing how difficult he can be
It's a shame I already know this matchup pretty well. I really respect Steve players, I can tell they're working hard. An amazing Steve player is a sight to behold. I might give him a go myself, I really love this character. I might do Mac cosplay (Nintendo Punch Out).
really wanted to start my first tekken with steve but 6 characters later, i’m glad i didnt, he’s much easier for me to learn after playing some more generic characters
Do you think we could get a lee guide next? That'd be awesome
No matter how much Bamco might buff this dude in the future, they’ll never buff the voice acting 😢💔
There is a steve mod which brings t7 voice back its on tekkenmods site its pretty good I like the t7 way more than the t8 one
can you change your Azucena guide title to Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo Ultimate Starter Guide - Tekken 8 ? 🥰🤙
I don't think the algorithm will like so many words in the title lol
Hey, didn't you already upload an Ed guide?
Finally.
Steve is the only character I really play and man is it hard trying to understand the Tekken fundamentals with him when he plays so differently.
he's very alien compared to the rest of the cast for sure. Most chars whatever you learn can somewhat apply to other chars, but steve is just in his own little universe
I wanted to play him when I saw his trailer, but he didn’t end up gelling with me. Still gonna watch the whole thing to help beat him.
Great content, Alisa next PLEASE
more in time!
Thanks going to use this for anti Steve
Guv gang represent! Only quarter way through the video, but curious if you've seen the Steve tech on cancelling Lionheart stance?
W guide
ah damn i was looking for that one other move that you can do in peakaboo but i guess its not in this guide
You should do a lee guide next
I didn't realize the lion heart stance had that many flaws
I think I found new tech.
You can actually do the 1+3 and 2+4 grab in peekaboo by pressing 3 then 1+3 or 2+4.
I don't know if ppl know this but is one frame link😮
We need a hwarong next 🔥
Please do Azucena Next roof!
Will you be doing one of these for Leroy?
