Steve is fun. He was one of my first characters too. Him and King. As soon as I hit the kick button and he started bobbing and weaving, that was it for me. I was sold lol.
Oh yeah! When you bob and weave through your opponent's attacks and counter with your own, you're gonna feel like a proper badass and the feeling is just 👌

You know a guide is good when you come back to it whenever you feel stuck. At purple ranks rn and i feel alot more comfortable than when I started but occasionally I do feel the need to come back to the basics and start from the ground up.

Tekken 8 has been out for almost ten months now, but I’m finally on to Steve, character #4 for me so far. Steve is super tough to learn, but I feel it’s possible with these guides. Truly great work. There’s something satisfying beating down opponents who are flying and kicking with just your bare fists. Bobbing and weaving into counter hits is chef’s kiss.

I just picked up steve 2 days ago and was a bit overwhelmed by all of his Stances he actually has but holy shit your videos are so Easy to understand and Replicate in Lab so i can get a deeper understanding of him. ive been playing tekken for a while now, and ive gotten quite far, i think (blue peak in 7), maybe im wrong. But, your video verbalized a lot of the concepts i was doing and trying to understand in my head on “instinct” and knowing better now how to think, the purposes of different things like movement, and the kind of tendencies to look out for really helped. thank you so much!

Steve is my bread n' butter as I have more than 5 years of experience with him, but I have played a few other characters in the roster. Lidia, Feng and Leo were my other characters but I am not as well versed with them. Although I will study the other characters further and try to make one!

I been playing Tekken for a while and Steve is my main. But, I admit, I have a tendency to start every match with B1, because it's quick. However...pretty predictable, so this was very helpful on mixing things up a bit
Good to hear friend! Two other good round start options are ub3 and PKB uf2. The latter instantly crushes highs and lows and is good against players who love jabbing at round start. Cheers!

@@xviinaichi3793 Yes it's generally his keepout stance beause of FLK2 and FLKb2. But for me, I use it as a supplementary stance for when I am forced to go into it, like b1>B into flicker pressure or qcf1b into flicker pressure.

also be okay with losing a lot with steve against others characters, its how you learn, you can play aggressive if you're confident or be patient and know when you start doing your strings. i remember being so angry and pissed but then i realized the ranking and prowess isn't real and at the end of the day im just trying to have fun and be better with my character. if you slow down, you'll notice what you can do and can't do against your opponent. otherwise great guide my dude
100% this friend, I was also like this with my Steve a few years back and I keep thinking everyday if I should switch mains. He needs you to play good, not the other way around where he carries you.
I only learned of it recently as well! I fought a Steve player online that did it, but I don't have the footage anymore and forgot the name so I couldn't credit them properly for it.
My mate and me play quite a bit. When I go into peekabo he just down jabs me out of it. Literally crushes the offence. How can I optimise peekabo that I cant be put out of it?
If he gets to downjab upon your entry into the stance, then it means you transitioned from a move on block. Like 121f on block leaves you at -3 so you have to respect their fast moves. You can start your offense when you transition on hit. As for when they downjab you in the middle of your PKB offense, then try to get a read on when they like to do it, and ↙️stance cancel and↘️ low parry them. Condition them not to interrupt your strings with downjab and find another solution.
Am I crazy or are the people looking for guides mostly new people, therefore it’d be really helpful to understand ANY of this notation, like even just a little flash of text in the corner. I have no idea what B1 or DF2 is. I play like 4 other fighting games, so this is obviously Tekken specific. Obviously I’m just gonna suck it up and learn it rq, it’s really a non-issue but I feel like the extra information on the spot could be really nice.

FLK 1f1 (on hit) > B1 Not B1: 7. qcf1B (on block) > FLK2 (will lose to instant buttons. You have to condition with FLK jabs first and read that they will hesitate) 8. b1B (on block) > FLK2 (will lose to instant buttons. You have to condition with FLK jabs first and read that they will hesitate) 9. PKB 12 (on hit or block) > PKB2 10. PKB 12 (on hit or block) > 1 [finish the string] (highly delayable string that has a mixup and mindgame potential with #9) 11. df1 > f3 (on hit or block) > DCKf2 12. ws 11 > f3 (on hit or block) > DCKf2 13. 21F (on hit or block) > PKB2 14. 21B (on hit or block) > FLK2 Not on the video but useable: 15. ub2B (on block) > B1 (for me this is quite risky as ub2 is a high, and if you get it to hit, it is better to get the free follow-up rather than press a B1 that will whiff. It is hard to confirm hit or block during a real match) 16. PKB f2 1 (on block) > B1 (don't try this past a certain rank, you're gonna get rekt for it. But if you do it and it works, go ahead and spam it!)
sometimes whenever im playing steve somehow like, the movesets change, the jab gets replaced with a jump punch and the dodges are just replaced with low attacks \
Yes i realized I left that out; honestly it has never worked for me yet because I find that the timeframe for confirming the block into B1 frame trap as to hit into free follow-up is so tight, that you have to premeditate what you wanna do instead of hit/block confirming.

Unfortunately (for the tekken community) this is probably the single best tekken guide ever created. Too bad I don't play Steve lol.

Am I crazy or are the people looking for guides mostly new people, therefore it’d be really helpful to understand ANY of this notation, like even just a little flash of text in the corner. I have no idea what B1 or DF2 is. I play like 4 other fighting games, so this is obviously Tekken specific. Obviously I’m just gonna suck it up and learn it rq, it’s really a non-issue but I feel like the extra information on the spot could be really nice.

Amazing video. Could you please add the notation for the inputs on the frame traps section? I’m new to Steve and I know some of the moves but not all of them so it’s a bit hard to find what moves you are using :)

2. 22 (on hit) > B1 (trades with jabs but you have a full launch)
3. wr2 (on block) > B1
4. Jab (on hit) > B1 *note that you can also try this on block since you are +1 but not many players press after blocking a jab
5. df1 (on hit) > B1 *lil tricky to confirm
6. FLK 1f1 (on hit) > B1
Not B1:
7. qcf1B (on block) > FLK2 (will lose to instant buttons. You have to condition with FLK jabs first and read that they will hesitate)
8. b1B (on block) > FLK2 (will lose to instant buttons. You have to condition with FLK jabs first and read that they will hesitate)
9. PKB 12 (on hit or block) > PKB2
10. PKB 12 (on hit or block) > 1 [finish the string] (highly delayable string that has a mixup and mindgame potential with #9)
11. df1 > f3 (on hit or block) > DCKf2
12. ws 11 > f3 (on hit or block) > DCKf2
13. 21F (on hit or block) > PKB2
14. 21B (on hit or block) > FLK2
Not on the video but useable:
15. ub2B (on block) > B1 (for me this is quite risky as ub2 is a high, and if you get it to hit, it is better to get the free follow-up rather than press a B1 that will whiff. It is hard to confirm hit or block during a real match)
16. PKB f2 1 (on block) > B1 (don't try this past a certain rank, you're gonna get rekt for it. But if you do it and it works, go ahead and spam it!)

sometimes whenever im playing steve somehow like, the movesets change, the jab gets replaced with a jump punch
and the dodges are just replaced with low attacks

It could be that you're already in a stance before deciding to do another move, making you do the stance move. 🤔

When you df1 press df3 again or f3. You can do it really really early. Then f2 the moment Steve ducks in

Yes i realized I left that out; honestly it has never worked for me yet because I find that the timeframe for confirming the block into B1 frame trap as to hit into free follow-up is so tight, that you have to premeditate what you wanna do instead of hit/block confirming.
