    Here we are with your King Guide for Tekken 8! Do you feel the need to grab someone and smash them into dust? Probably the right character for it! So lets give you an overview on what you need to look out for with the character, priority moves, example strategies, understanding core mechanics, and some bread & butter combos to top it off. So give a watch, like if ya liked it, and lemme know what you think!

I think a lot of players will have a lot of fun learning the character, and I'd daresay he's never been better given how ridiculously strong throws are in T8 compared to prior Tekkens.

    Hey Everyone, if you're struggling on the DF2 into beast step Combo at 35:00, you can try a different route, (Full Crouch df2, 4, df43, b12, run 2+4) which will end up doing 72 damage (without blue sparks) instead, and it's FAR easier.

    • @mrjoey94

    A thing you missed from the chain grab part.
    You can buffer inputs: if you press 1 and hold it and then press 3 the input will be 1, 1+3.
    For the arm breaker chain: 2, 1, 1+3. It can be done like this: 2, 1 (keep holding 1), 3. Its also like a rolling motion, press 2 and roll 1>3 and it will come out 100% of times.
    I always do it this way and find it easier, other chains have different motions but you have to try them out.
    If you played Gief in SF, do the Giant Swing using a reverse 360 motion if you struggle with forward into half-circle.
    You can play with the buffer window a lot more in t8 than SF, find the motion that suits you better for some grabs.

    brand new to Tekken and after playing a more "honest" character in Street Fighter I really wanted to feel the gratification of cheesing people in this game. Thanks to this video, I only needed to spend 30 minutes in training mode to start having a ton of casual fun online. Buffered spin grab off of jab, the kick launcher BnB and the easy chain grab alone have been helping me mow through the early ranks 🤣
    I wanna learn Kazuya eventually but King is FUN as a newbie. Although it feels like I'm cheating it really helped me understand the fun of Tekken while getting a feel for when it's my turn.
    I really recommend anyone fretting over who to commit to just to try him out for an evening for a quick pass to a good time. Thanks for the great video! 🙏

    In the days of Tekken 2 King was my second favourite character but I stopped playing Tekken after that. Mainly because I prefer 2D fighting games, but I am really considering buying this Tekken 8 because I think I would have allot of fun with King, and also because your guide has explained how to use the character so well. Excellent guide, dude! For any new players that want to listen to an old tekkenhead (playing King since 97') on some advice- play King. Even if he won't be your main, play him anyways specifically because he'll teach you several fundamentals for higher level play.
    King is extremely weak to fuzzy guarding. His grabs come out faster than the attacks he wants to mix you up with, so you can duck grabs, stand up from a crouch, if he's going for a low grab, + block his mids... then still get a chance for a grab break. So King players have to learn a few things.
    King teaches you how to condition your opponent. If you've never played against a brick wall of an opponent, you will... and when you're unable to move like a Mishima or attack as fast as the lighter cast, it becomes very very apparent you cannot just box people let alone get your hands on them to grapple. As Rooflemonger says, his lows aren't great, but they're tools to force your opponent to get out of their comfort zone. A very, "Start crouching or I'll break your ankles" mentality.
    And most importantly, King teaches you how to get inside your opponents head. This will apply to every character moving forward. Tekken operates with the idea that you cannot just rely on your "safe" moves forever because there are so few of them. You have to take gambles to open up higher level players, and now that there is chip damage on top of a 60 second timer... blocking and waiting for that perfect strike is going to come far less often than if you're making proper reads at every opportune moment. Every high attack is an opportunity for a crouch. Every low is a chance to parry or jump punish. And these reads won't come from counting frames.
    Go play King.

    Hi man, im a bit late but can you do a guide on how to deal with pressure heavy characters? I know King plays on neutral but I struggle with him, especially in tekkne 8 where so many hit confirms and heat damage, the pressure is immense from characters such as Jin, Devil Jin, Kazuya's broken low string, Dragonuv strings etc. I struggle against string heavy characters and I do interrupt and duck them sometimes and then while standing 4 or iws22 to punish their whiffs, but when they are in heat, they just go ham and I cant deal wiht the pressure. Keeping the "starter guide" idea from MK1, giving you the core info you need to know without going into every single move making the video 2 hours long, core strats, bnb combos, and do you like the "top 10 moves" format idea? I only have a few things I would add that didn't get covered but I find useful:
    -Muscle Armor (d/b+1+2) is one of the best power crushes in the game. It's optional whether you do the 2 attack out of it so you can just do the first part without risking them blocking and punishing. And they couldn't punish if they wanted to because the 2 coming out of it hits mid and is -9 on block and shifts into an unbreakable 38 damage throw on normal hit. Depending on what you armor through, you can opt to not do the canned follow-up and instead come out of it with a launcher or throw, which can be guaranteed depending on the recovery of the attack you just armored. This was funny to omit because during the Toll Kick explanation @rooflemonger mentions that there are very, very few safe power crushes in the game - that's true and King happens to have one of them.
    -King has another amazing frame advantage move with f,f,n+1+2. This is a 9f mid that's 0 on block, +7 on hit, and +18 on CH. It doesn't do damage on its own, but it is so fast that it beats most things. On hit with +7 it's your turn to do pretty much any follow-up you want. On a CH with that +18 advantage, f+2,1 is guaranteed and heat engages into a full juggle combo. It mixes up with his f,f,n+2 low as well if they start blocking that.
    -He has a chain grab off sidestep, SS+2+4. This on its own is not generally useful because it's the same as his d/f+2+4 chain throw and always is the 2 break version. What IS useful is that if you hold back you cancel the throw and just get this massive sidestep that ALSO is crouching the entire time. It's bonkers good for repositioning in a stage on a character that doesn't seem like he has a ton of fast movement. Probably the best lateral reposition move in the game. Since it's crouching it also avoids high homing attacks and more critically throws.
    -He has a chain grab out of Jaguar Step, 1+4 or 2+3. It comes out at 12f (which is a great mix-up with the 11f mid option) and has a 1 or 2 break guessing game (both grabs look identical) that leads into his actual highest damage chain throw, even better even than RDC. It ends in Screwdriver which is Armor King's old finisher throw (it's basically a SPD) and if you get the whole thing off it does 116 damage. The entire chain is a series of 1 or 2 breaks, along with a 1+2 break option in the middle (that finishes it early with a whopping 93 damage). Unlike RDC, it's a true guessing game - there's no memorization which you can always avoid the option by knowing to break 2 in the end. Plus the first follow-up throw after the initial grab is unbreakable, so you're always going to get at least 32 damage off of it. In my opinion it's the best High option out of Jaguar Step by far since it's 12 frames, homing (all throws hit sidestep), and effectively safe - they either take a load of damage or break it, and if they break it you're at -3 and they honestly are going to be disoriented because the animation is wonky and it rapidly switches sides - if you recognize the break is happening and throw immediately afterwards it very often can catch them unaware. One advantage is that as the King player you will recognize the animation and know they broke the throw faster than the opponent, and have more time to prepare an immediate response.

      Other good notes yep! I forced myself to pick 10 moves specifically to keep the guide "brief" so I went with basically if you can only pick 10, those are the 10 i'd pick. The game being the game though, obviously there is indeed so much more

    • @BobtheX
      @BobtheX 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Could you actually explain the timing for the ss2+4 cancel? I'm still having a hard time getting it on purpose. When do I hold back? Before or after 2+4?

    • @Reldan
      @Reldan 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BobtheX It's after. You can tap or even hold back right after you input the 2+4 and you shouldn't have the throw come out at the end. The 2+4 you can do at almost any point within the sidestep and get that extra movement. If you do it immediately after letting go of the u or d you will not even see the sidestep, or you can delay and do it right as the sidestep ends, which gives you a massive amount of lateral movement.
      One nasty trick is that you can actually buffer GS into the sidestep cancel. Do the SS+2+4, and you can buffer the f input, and then do the hcf+1. The b from the hcf should cancel the normal throw and GS will come out instead. Unlike a lot of cancels that often have a bit of recovery time before the move comes out, this has practically none. If anything the GS at 10f comes out faster than if you hadn't cancelled at all and just let the 2+4 chain throw happen. You can do the same thing to buffer muscle buster - if you time the qcb+1+2, the b input from the qcb will do the cancel and muscle buster will come out instead. This now gives you a full 1, 2, 1+2 mixup out of the sidestep - not bad! I guarantee this will catch some people unaware - anybody who "knows" the matchup knows it's the 2 chain throw that comes out of sidestep, except it doesn't have to be.
      Good luck with the practicing - you'll get the timings down if you keep at it!

    • @Reldan
      @Reldan 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@rooflemonger Absolutely! I love your videos and loved seeing my main man featured in the very first guide! I always figure the comments are a good place to add some of the nitty gritty extra stuff that aren't going to make the cut into a video that already is over 40 minutes long and packed with solid info. If I had a request I think a guide on the wall system would be incredible. The interactions between when you get a splat you can follow-up and when they simply gain invuln until they hit the ground is very unclear. Some chains land a full combo against the wall while others just drop in the middle for no apparent reason. And if you get off-axis side splats it feels like a crapshoot on what you can convert those into. And that's just the normal walls - the exploding walls and breakable walls do their own things as well.

    Good video, thanks Roofle! HOWEVER, if you are truly a beginner in Tekken 8, I would basically ignore all combos shown as they're far too complex. For the U/F 4 Launcher, simply do 4 -> B3 -> FFF 2+4 (the run grab). It does 60+ damage and is extremely easy to input. For the D/F+2 punish -> it's just B3 -> FFF 2+4, does 65 damage or something. So you lose a minimum amount of damage but have no execution at all to worry about which is important, especially when you're still getting used to the game itself. The damage scaling is so big that long combos are barely worth it, especially when you can't even control your character yet.
    Just my 2 cents as a complete Tekken noob who has exp in other FGs. My feedback would be to include easier beginner combos as well for the next character guides. Hope this doesn't come off as too harsh because I still enjoyed the video a lot. Have a good one.

      @@condorgaming4000 Honestly, I can do a lot of cheap, guaranteed damage with Lilly and the same applies to almost every character. My problem with King is that it takes forever for these throw animations. It's so boring. If you mash the right buttons even randomly, their whole game plan falls apart. Any King player sweats profusely if you break even a single throw. See how fast they start trying to abuse armor and that's when you steamroll them.

    A tip for the crouching df2 combo at 35:00: I personally struggle with the beast step version you showed, but this route offers the same exact damage with easier execution in my opinion: c.df2, f3, df43, b12, run 2+4. Still 70 damage but without the beast step input which some may struggle with consistently.

      Interesting u say dat, cuz 🤔 others have mentioned they'd love to have a VF character like Akira have an appearance n Tekken... i was like nawh to dat....but now im curious cuz tekken 8 is strong, but having played Vf5 extensively...tekken 8 shortcomings r showing through.
      Akuma works but akuma to me is too meta, should of choose someone mo generically street fighter, to test the concept, despite that, it worked sorta
      Would puting Akira in, nerf the game or buff d game? Or would putting Akira n da game, nerf Akira or buff Akira 🤔? Or even break da game 🎮?

    Funny not so funny story… 3XOG here… haven’t played since the first Tekken Tag… you used to have to press crazy inputs for Kings chain throws… I remember Tekken 2 it was dang near impossible … but that is how I remember the inputs… fast fwd many moons later and I teach an after school program where we get Tekken 8 and we use it to teach STEM (frame data/helps w math etc) well we get it at launch and I get my tried n true main King and sure enough the chain throws still work… im furiously mashing inputs that are stamped in my brain still some 25 years later… well let’s just say this ain’t ya daddy’s Tekken n I still got creamed by the kids… so programming is over… im like… im gonna learn how to play this… I used to pretty good when I was a kid n this is before the internet when u had to learn combos at the arcade (Tekken 1 days) …. Anywho I go to the move list and low and behold all you have to do now is press ONE BUTTON to continue the chain throws! 🤯 needless to say im in the lab kids… and they don’t know I watch your channel… so ITS ON NOW KIDS!

    @rooflemonger Hey, I know it's too late for this guide but after taking the advice from your "Special Style" guide it might be worth it in future guides to look at what some ridiculous special style moves are available for the characters. King for example can, for who knows what reason, do his f,f,n+2 low as a special style move. Except it comes out faster than it possibly could using the normal input. I consider myself to be fairly fast, iWR Shining Wizards and all of that, but a f,f,n input manually is still around 7-10 frames, and it is always going to telegraph a little bit because you'll have at least a small forward movement before the move comes out. SpS+4 though? It is 1f execution and you just do the move from standing with no forward dash at all. It's not like the EWGF example you had where technically the best player in the world could outperform the SpS version because they put some intentional "lag" into the execution - with this you can plink the SpS version and do it in less frames than the normal input should allow. You can even do impossible stuff like having the move come out immediately from a backwards Jaguar Step. Since like Shining Wizard the move is supposed to require having at least part of a dash animation happen no matter how fast you execute it, this normally can't be buffered so this should be impossible.
    With SpS+f+1 he gets his WR 3 but without starting a run. This is a 20f mid that is +3 on block and travels so far forwards that it hits from around range 3 (it's supposed to be a WR move after all). It's similar to his u/f3+4 power crush in distance but instead of being unsafe on block it gives frame advantage on block. On hit it combos into a ground throw (timing is very precise on this).
    One very odd thing I'm noticing about SpS moves is that it doesn't seem like you can buffer out of them if they are executed the SpS way. I can buffer a GS off of f,f,n+2 easily and cannot do it with the SpS version at all. The SpS moves otherwise have identical properties and frame data of the normal move, just this one key difference in buffering. The execution of follow-up attacks is harder this way without the buffer, because if I want to use that +7f of advantage to beat a jab with my 15f hop kick I need very precise execution, but it's still doable.
    Anyways, I would not have found this stuff if not for your special style video, so thanks for that! I can absolute find ways to incorporate this into my play, so this is great!
