    3.21 to 4.10 ratio swap
    In this video we determine whether or not a vehicle will net any horsepower or torque increases with just a simple gear swap. For this Jeep in particular, we went from a factory 3.21 gear ratio to a Nitro Ring & Pinion 4.10 ratio. This vehicle has not been turbo'd yet, there will be a seperate video for that.
    We would love to hear from you! Please leave any comments or questions below!
    Enjoy!

    Good video, but not a "definitive" re-gear guide. Gears don't add torque or power. They multiply torque, which you feel as acceleration, and see as engine speed (and possibly a few numbers on a dyno). Horsepower is a made up number that is a multiplication of torque at a given rpm. I do agree that you would want to choose less gear (lower numerically) for an FI application vs a NA application. That's why I went with 5.13s instead of 5.38s when I did my 1-ton/ 40" tire swap. It's actually not bad for now, and should be just about right when I get around to buying a turbo kit from you guys :) I could have probably gotten away with 4.88s, but then it would have been a turd until I can afford the turbo.

    Your video really expanded on my knowledge as I'm super new to all of the Jeep customizations. Thank you so much. What would be the best route for me if I'm looking to get 2 and half inch suspension lift + 35 inch tires ( will get front + rear bumper later along with winch). My Jeep is a daily driver. I've drove 5300 miles in 3 months so far. 2019 JLU 3.6 V6 with 8 speed automatic.

    Great info! So what about regearing the stock 2L 4cyl turbo? What gears for 40” tires and highway driving so it doesn’t get the constant gear searching you spoke about in the video?

    • @ProdigyPerformance
      @ProdigyPerformance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do not have any experience with the 4-cyl, but I would assume it would be similar to the V6 (4.88 or 5.13), unless the transmission has different internal ratios.

      A new carrier was required for the front Dana 30. The factory rear carrier was retained.

    best video ever . best choice is engine power upgrade before you touch the gear . if you want to stay stock power them regear. in my cause lad cruiser 4.30 standard gear from my factory 105 with original 1hz now 1hd-t I choose engine power upgrade with big intercooler and turbo upgrade injection pump and new injector looking for 220 tire hp and 450 to 500 feet of torque . with now 35 tires maybe 37 later will see .

    I have a 2019 wrangler jl rubicon with 4.10s. Going to 35 inch tires with 1.5 inch lift. Should I regear, or am I ok with the 4.10s? It's a daily driver and some off roading.

    Is the first dyno session before the lift? Regearing AFTER a lift brings you back CLOSE to OEM specs. If not your dyno session is VERY misleading. And gearing will NOT, "net any horsepower" as gearing is about leverage and putting horsepower that is already there to the ground. There is a simple formula to put your power levels after a lift back to stock specs, or close. 1, Do a dyno before a lift. 2.Then lift it and dyno. 3.Then regear and dyno. THAT IS THE TEST. The result will be 1.stock, 2. loss of power, 3. stock power back. The gears you chose were correct based on the formula calculation and the 3000 charts you can google based on the aforementioned formula and calculation.

    Many chassis dynos can do a power to road speed graph. It would be interesting to run it 0-90 that way and see what those graphs compare like.

    Numerically higher ratios typically show higher HP on a chassis dyno. Well documented short coming. Besides different torque multiplication values lower ratios have higher parasitic drag. You can test this by dynoing in different gears. Even when you adjust the correction factors the loss can still be measured.

    Hi, my 2012 Sahara JKU is on 3.21 and I'm on 33" with a 2.5" lift. I'm not doing any trails but may plan to install 35" eventually. Most garage recommended 4.10 but some told me 4.56....which one do you recommend? thank you

    • @ProdigyPerformance
      @ProdigyPerformance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally would stay right where you're at. If you were to go with 5.13's you would be sitting close to 4000 RPM at 75-80 MPH. Not only would your gas mileage suck, but your motor is more susceptible to running hot. If you're looking for a change, 4.88 tops! 4.56 puts you closest to factory ratios on 37's

    • @ProdigyPerformance
      @ProdigyPerformance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you look at it like a spectrum chart, 3.21's for 35's would be at the bottom end. Can you get by? Yes. Is it optimal? No. If you're going to change it and you plan on sticking with 35's I would consider 4.10's.

    I'm having 4.56 gears put in right now. I have 35" tires and a 4" lift kit. I also have K&N cold air intake and flowmaster outlaw exhaust with trail dash 2 superchip tune set on the 87 octane tune (level 3). I do a lot of in-town driving but have a 5 hour drive to deer camp and 1hr 20 min drive to fish camp. I hope I chose wisely on the 4.56 gears. What do you think Prodigy Perf?

    • @ProdigyPerformance
      @ProdigyPerformance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      4.56 w/ 35's is rather aggressive, that ratio would be better suited for 37's. If you're sticking with the 35's, we wouldn't recommend anything over 4.10's, especially if you do a lot of highway driving.

    • @keithelder
      @keithelder 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProdigyPerformance I went with 4.56. I'm pretty happy with that ratio. At 70mph i get 2610 RPMs. It doesn't shift down and it has some serious getty up and go around town. So far I'm happy with it. Thanks for the reply. Also like knowing I could go 37's in the future.

    I'm somewhat still confused. According to your website for my application which is 37 inch tires. It showed the graph of going with 4.88 or 5.13 gears. I went with the latter. So are you saying if I put on the turbo I over geared?

    • @ProdigyPerformance
      @ProdigyPerformance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gearing is a give and take. I prefer much less gear when the vehicle is manual transmission. Otherwise, it does not provide enough load to really spin the turbo and the vehicle will drive like a semi truck. Shifting way too often. Like you will shift all the way to 3rd gear when accelerating from a red light and you won't even be through the light let.
