Hi Mynda. Thanks for showing how to create these non-built-in fun chart types. Always amazing how you manipulate and assemble the components to build a new solution! Thanks for sharing :)) Thumbs up!!
Great Video. Thank you! Question: Is that also a way to make "Time Line Charts" using dates and dates (needed for marketing activities i.e.)? Or is there a better way for doing that?
Timeline charts are usually best suited to a line chart. If you get stuck, please post your question and sample Excel file on our forum where we can help you further: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-forum
I'm making a pre-post dot plot table and I got to your error bar portion where you say to switch to the x-axis (horizontal). I have excel for mac and they only allow me to edit the vertical error bar. Do you have any ideas on how to edit horizontal error bars in the mac version of excel?
Thank you, Mynda. So many good ideas in your videos, so many files to download (not a bad thing) ! To me, the X-axis labels in both the dot-plot and dumbbell charts are the only chart elements that one might consider cluttered at all. Was there a particular reason for you to keep the intervals at $50M, or would intervals at $100M be just as effective?
Hi Mynda, thank you so much for putting up this video, it really helped me a lot. I have one question, what if I have three series (2010, 2019, and 2020) and the newest series value is lower than the earliest series (2020
Hi Mynda @MyOnlineTrainingHub -- this is a phenomenal video, you walk through and explain everything so well! I had been using Tableau to kick out these types of charts for years, but it's so helpful to know that I can do it much quicker in Excel instead :) Just ONE question that I'm struggling with -- if I want to have the Department Names anchored along the left side of the chart (in other words, to the left of where the Y-axis ticks would be) -- how do I do this? Is this possible? This would look better on some of my data compared to having the department names floating out in the scatter plot along with the data points
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub Hey Mynda, gotcha yep that makes sense -- I haven't been able to figure out how to do that though. I have to keep the "Spacing" column as the Y-axis (right?) so that the dots will display in the correct vertical rows ... so how do I use the Department Name field as the y-axis labels while also keeping the Spacing field? Any specifics would be greatly appreciated!!
You can try this technique: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-chart-vertical-axis-text-labels Or you could add another series at zero (or the starting point of your horizontal axis) that has vertical values that match the spacing and then add labels to that series.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub This very last suggestion (adding another series) is now my go to move to "trick" Excel into making the Axis Labels be whatever I want them to be. Previously I was just typing in textboxes and it was pretty tedious getting them all lined up properly, especially if I had a lot of "departments." But this is amazingly simple. Thanks!
I have seen Quist a fem of you videos and the have been very helpfull to me. But I have a question which I hope you can help me to answer. I am tradinng on stocksmarkets an all my trades is registrated in a sheet in a excellworkbook one sheet for every equity. At the moment I have a sort of a Dashboard where I summerize everything by refering to the cells in the sheets and it ia a nightmar for me to update it every month as I get morre and more sheets every month. The sheets them self contains entreies of buy and sell and som calculation of different kinds so the change every time a buy that stock. I have looked at to your videos concer power query, one where you transform all the sheets in to one tabel and one where you link the sheets to a tabel. Which method would you use if you where me?
Hi Mynda, I have a trouble for "Dept. D" negative error values. The Graph doesn't draw negative line in chart though I follow your instructions. How can I send you my screenshot?
I love love love excel.. was a little vexed on barbells in excel.. You have a great example, but still seems like a lot for the effect..
Yeah, it's a shame they're not easier to create. BTW, love the dab emoji 😁
Thank you Mynda! Love the different variations!
Glad you like them!

You are most welcome, Wayne!
So easy to understand by following your video sep by step, thank you so much, Mynda. Have a nice day ^^
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much, I used the dumbbell a little untraditionally to show the min and max salary range of teachers in my area from varying sources.
Great idea!
yet another great, helpful video. As if we are doing the same research! Thanks!!!
Great to hear!
Never getting bored while watching your videos!! I'll try yo use this charts, very useful .

You'll find plenty in my Excel Dashboard course: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-dashboard-course
How did you get your vibrant Theme colors @2:22? My colors look a little dull compared to yours!
It's a colour theme. Go to the Page Layout tab and choose from the colour themes, or make your own.
@@MyOnlineTrainingHub I never knew it that existed! Thank you!
Excellent a chart i will use often
Great ideas for charting
Glad you like them, Graham :-)
Best alternative to usual bar charts.
Glad you like them, Kauma!
Thank you very much for the video, one question, how do I generate the data for the error line when I want to represent 4 years?

Hi Kevin, I don't have a Mac, but is there no drop down to choose the horizontal error bar?

Thanks, James :-) No reason for the scale on the X axis. I simply let Excel decide based on the data.
Super technical video. Thank you for sharing and for your effort.
My pleasure, Ivan!
Thanks Myndy. Very Interesting!!!
Cheers, John! Hope you can use these charts.

Hi Bianca, if you download the Excel file you'll see the solution if you have a scenario where the current year is lower than the previous year.

Glad you liked it, Brannan! You can make the department names the vertical axis labels instead of inserting them as labels.
