Couple notes I forgot to add to this video. 1. As always, the words "budget-friendly" or "affordable" are relative. I strongly believe this setup is super affordable for the size and quality of the display. In the end it costs around $5k with the projector, screen, and trusses. You could save money by reducing the size of everything. 2. The black border around the frame of the screen was a custom request when we ordered it from Karl's Place. I can't find it on their website, but I would reach out to them and tell them you want it.
Thank you for this Jake! Our church plant in Gilbert AZ is using many of your recommendations. Could you share some info on the material that you used to velcro the border of the frame? Dimensions would be really helpful, we ordered the same 9x16 screen as you are using. Thx so much!
Hey Jake! Quick suggestion, I would consider updating the pricing on certain items. I re-created your set up at my church , looks GREAT, BUT the truss portion cost me about $1200 more than what's listed in this video. None that less, this was a GREAT find and it completely gave our sanctuary a face lift
Good information. I'm with our church video team, and We are looking at upgrading our stage presence for our church. And we need a good projection screen.
I just search about projector for church last week on TH-cam. This video has been helpful. The projector you mentioned here is a little bit a high side for my church any other suggestions within the range of $1000
I dont' know any specific models but look at the specs on the model of the one i suggest here and then shop around for those smaller budget options. I would keep in mind you arent going to get as large or bright of an image.
It depends on your room. You need to ask yourself a few questions. - Will the room be fairly well lit or dark at most times? - Does the projector need to be mounted close or far away? - What is the size of your screen? If your room is dark and can be mounted anywhere, you can get by with much cheaper projectors. Short throw projectors with a good amount of lumens is typically where it gets pricey. At my church plant, we had a $1000 6000 lumen Optima projector in a room that was 100% lit up and had direct sunlight coming in, it was mounted about 15-20 feet from the screen and it worked just fine filling a 10-12’ screen from that distance. We since made some changes to the space and needed to mount the projector closer, so we were forced to sell our projector and we bought a short throw with roughly half the lumens and it was just fine as well. We mounted it roughly 5 feet away from the screen and it cast our 10-12’ image just fine. That projector was also an $800 Optima. To get it that big at closer distances you HAVE to get a short throw projector or else you won’t be able to get the image large enough.
I was hoping for a real budget friendly set up. We are a church plant and maybe have around $300 for both projector and screen. Anyways thanks and I'll keep looking .
Hey Jake, loved this recommendation, however, I looked into Carl's Place, and they are now a Golf Simulator service, they said they only have 2 theater screen materials left, grey and white reverse, with a max height of 86 in. with widths up to 400 in. Bit of a bummer, any chance you have any more recommendations Jake?? I am in talks with Altitude to see what an LED wall would look like, we're trying to get an idea of what's going to work better for us, projectors or LED walls. Thank you for your ministry and content.
Thanks for the video! These really help in providing ideas for our small church. I was wondering, do you have any experience that you could share regarding foldback screens/confidence monitors for worship lyrics and the hardware required when you only have a laptop? Thanks!
Hey Jake. Thanks for the info. We did buy 2 viewsonic ls830 and set up 2 grey screens 12ft x 6.75. Our throw is 37inches. I ordered the projectors off Amazon and then we redid our whole stage, paint walls, etc...so it took about 3 weeks. We finally set up the projector and screens this past weekend. I was soooo disappointed and shocked by the brightness of the color. Our front projectors at half the lumens and the price were a lot brighter. I checked with Amazon and it's too late to return projectors. Do you think I'm missing anything? We went into settings and set. Our stage lights in our auditorium are not bright. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

We have a small congregation averaging 5 - 8 people whose average age is probably 48 years old. We have a pull-up movie projector screen on a tripod stand and have been using an old overhead projector but the projector just died today. We've been give an old epson projector that hooks up to a laptop. I tried putting the lyrics onto song pages and projecting them like we did with the overhead but the words are too small from the projector and we'd like to be able to project the words one line at a time. What would you recommend? We have no money to spend so it would have to be simple. Thanks
The toolkit is misleading or at least for me it was. The link in the toolkit took me to the f24 trusses and 20x20 baseplate. After watching the video again it seems like the f34 trusses are being used. I purchased two f24 trusses and two 20x20 base plates (also in the toolkit) from B&H. These are non-returnable and non-cancelable so beware when purchasing from the toolkit. They are not the same. You need to purchase the f34 trusses and 30x30 f34 base plate, not the f24 trusses and 20x20 base plate that is linked in the toolkit. The f24 trusses are light duty about 8” wide, the f34s are medium duty at almost 12” wide. I blew a big part of our church budget buying what was linked in the toolkit. I wish I would of done more research on trusses before purchasing. Global truss has an online catalog with specs that B&H fail to provide. If I’m wrong please let me know.
Hi, my church is just starting to plan a setup to project song lyrics up front for ccli music. Is it possible to use a screen about three and a half feet high , projecting lyrics onto it while our organist / pianist plays?
Hi Everyone, how do I set up a low budget Live Church Service on multiple monitors and same time Bible verses and some other presentations will be displaying as footages are displaying on screens?

Hi Jake thanks for this video. Very I formative. Question, how far back from the screen do you need to put the projector. Our church has limited stage space
David Ostapuk My church decided to pull the trigger on it after watching the video. The projector is great. As long as you can control house lighting, it’s good to go.
I watched some of the service videos from Mission Lakewood Church and noticed the house is very dark and still the words o the screen are not bright and sharp. It appears the ViewSonic used here is being stretched beyond it's design limits. (214" Vs 150" in the specification)

Learn NOT to use hand and arm motions when making a video. People will take you more seriously. This is just a fact of life for public speaking and was once regularly taught by English teachers everywhere. Try it. Make a video of yourself talking where you wave your hands around as you normally would. Then make a second video of yourself saying the same thing without moving your hands and arms. View and compare the two videos. You'll clearly see that the video without hand and arm movements comes across much more focused and believable.
