    Happy Easter everyone ! The auction for the ring Kobe gave his father ended on 3/30 - it sold for $927,200. Joe sold it for $173,000. Lmk what I can do to improve for next time!!

      He was an arrogant, angry dickhead as a young man-- I'm sorry, this was the obvious truth. He also probably committed a crime for which he would have gone to jail. I do think he was trying desperately to make up for that in his post-retirement years. Part of the tragedy of his early death was that he was still changing, still striving to be a better person. His parents don't sound like the nicest people, and it sounds like he made them pay for that too. Sucks all around.

      If the person is family, you kind of have to at least TRY to reconcile. If they refuse to even speak, then that's on them. Kobe's parents crushed him and the ship has sailed.

      Even if they have to sit back and watch Kobe take an L for the decisions he makes, it's still better than abandonment and a family feud. My mom abandoned me at 13 over petty disagreements as well.

      @josephrichter2104 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

      It's a pretty big disagreement. Kobe knew what his parents wanted. They created him, after all. He knew that marrying this woman would cause a rift between his parents who felt strongly about preserving their family line, as God created it (roughly speaking, since there was likely at least some European ancestry in the family, but not significant).

      @@cygnusprime6728 that's the story I remember hearing as well.
      Everyone made their choices and now have to live with the consequences... SMH All those years wasted and now the man is gone. I can't imagine any petty disagreements being worth it in the end. It's odd when people have children and expect them not to think for themselves and have their own "legacy" priorities.

    My oldest son has a girlfriend
    who doesn’t like me. I have only met her once, because I live more than 2,000 miles away. I reached out to her, and even sent her a couple of gifts, to extend a cordial hand. She did even respond with a simple thanks. What I have concluded is that she wants to be the center of my son’s world. I contrast, I wanted my husband to have a close relationship with his family. I spoke to my mother-in-law regularly, even though she wanted my husband to be with someone else. The wife plays a crucial role in the cohesiveness of the family. Kobe’s wife has an acrimonious relationship with her own mother.

    • @bygraceandmercy
      @bygraceandmercy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      I totally get your pain but expecting her to be like you is totally unrealistic and unfair. You cannot re-raise this woman. It's not in your place and it was never in your place as she is not your child.
      Maybe she was raised to be that way through unwise counsel or simply bad examples and experiences as she was growing up. It's your own son you should be concerned about. Maintain a healthy relationship with your own child and pay no attention to this woman unapologetically without necessarily being rude or abrasive.
      If you maintain a loving relationship with your son there's a better chance he'll get back to his senses is she is toxic. Do not continue to communicate with her or send any gifts since it's not working and probably fueling the fire. Pray unceasingly. Jesus came to set the captives free. I sympathize with you. I'll pray for you ❤

Dont cry to me about your choices". The message was clear, take responsibility, but i love you through it.
    I dont see signs thata Kobe's parents loved him through their issues. And to me that's just poor parenting. Especially in light of what his father birthed into his life. Maybe Joe was selfish and coveted his son's success as his own. (hunches shoulders) Sad story indeed.

    There is more to this story than we know, we only know what the media tells us and the few media clips we see. Remember Kobe became the player he was- because his Father kept his family together something difficult for many athletes and taught him the game not only from the physical standpoint but the psychological aspects. This is the foundation of Mamba mentality. Kobe showed the same love towards his family as he saw his father demonstrate. It’s to bad and very unfortunate that a division took place between him and his parents. Furthermore Kobe’s children are deprived the experience of their Grandparents and Aunts. I hope for the sake of his children that reconciliation can take place🙏🏿

    What I’m getting from this is, Kobe married extremely fast & young. Naturally, his parents said to slow down take it easy before making such a huge decision that could possibly ruin his whole life in the future. Kobe refused & used to Bible to justify his choice, his parents were probably big on Christianity for him to do that. That hurt his parents but what it seems like the real issue started was when right after he got married he basically left his parents alone & went all in on Vanessa.
    This is okay, considering that’s his wife now & he has a new family + the Bible backed it, however Kobe wasn’t being fair. He ditched his parents but was supporting & treating Vanessa’s parents even better than his own. A big reason why he even moved was to be closer to Vanessa’s parents. I wouldn’t be surprised if a very young Vanessa was salty Kobe’s parents wanted nothing to do with her so she convinced Kobe that he didn’t need them & they don’t truly care/support him like parents should, so he should leave them alone for good.
    His parents most likely were like hold up, he said he’s going all in on his new family he’s starting with Vanessa but he’s doing so much for her parents & completely ditched us & doesn’t help us with anything. This upset his parents, understandably, & they said fine let him learn the hard way how this early rushed marriage will backfire, so they left Kobe alone.
    They later asked Kobe for money for a house, they weren’t talking really but they still figured he would help them considering he’s a multimillionaire & he helps Vanessa’s parents way more. Kobe didn’t provide the help they were looking for so they sold his stuff to help out, which hurt Kobe & made the drift between them even bigger. They stayed on rocky terms until his passing it seems.
    This whole thing is pretty tragic, we aren’t on this Earth forever, so when you remember that life eventually ends & can end at anytime, you realize none of these grudges matter really

      Most of what you wrote was a load of rubbish. What parent would hold a grudge and choose not to acknowledge their grandchildren? What responsible parent would go as far as selling off their child’s legacy?
      Until people speak the truth to themselves, this nonsense will continue. It’s insulting when people use religion to cover their ignorance. The Bible states that a man will leave his father and mother and find a wife and they shall become ONE flesh. Kobe found his regardless of their opinions and it was a long lasting marriage that produced 4 children. Instead of being happy for their child’s success, his parents were praying for his downfall so he would come back crawling to them. Their initial opinions of Vanessa are irrelevant. After many years of Kobe and Vanessa sticking together despite various issues and raising 4 daughters, a real parent would have put pride aside and reached out to the both of them to make amends. If Joe and his wife had swallowed their pride and made the first step in apologizing, then the healing would have started. They still have an opportunity to right this wrong. Hopefully they will find the humility.

      @@Flossy2K. There is nothing understandable about what they did. If Kobe had been white, most of you would have been screaming racism. The fact remain the same- the ‘Hispanic video girl’ turned out to be a loyal wife and loving mother.
      Any worthwhile parent would have humbled themselves and taken steps to make amends. It is not on Vanessa to make amends after all the insults. She can be the bigger person and do so but it is more on the Joe Bryant’s part of the family. If they really valued their grandchildren, they would have done something. Based on their behavior, it was clear that they were hoping that the marriage would fail. This was not out of love or concern for their son but out of pride, ignorance and the need to be right. To sell your child’s (and grandchildren’s) legacy to buy ANOTHER house was beyond low. They were not poor. Joe was still making a good living so what was the excuse? As a parent, your job is to give not take when it comes to your children. You raise them right so that they can live their lives as adults. That is the way it goes. Your child should not be your safety net or ATM. Your reward is seeing them grow to become productive members of society. Any money or gifts given to you are just extra. This sense of entitlement needs to stop.
      Kobe and Gianna Bryant may be dead but there are three other grandchildren. If they valued their son’s memory, they would make amends. Considering all they have said about Vanessa, it will be hard but they have to make the first move.

    First off this a disgrace of a title. Everybody commenting negatively must not have kids. They were trying to protect him as he was 21 and she was 17 at the time and they were sexually active. Her mom threatened to sue for statutory rape. When your young child is a wealthy star you have to look out for them because like all young people they don’t know any better but they think they do. I don’t know anyone that wouldn’t have felt the same way. They didn’t hate him, they didn’t want him to ruin his young life over a piece of ass. We all know the trouble a young man can get himself into being of legal age while the girl is still a minor. She was a senior in high school and he was a grown man. You should take this mess down immediately. He was the one that got the big head and nobody could tell him anything. You don’t throw the people that brought you into this world away for nobody unless they are abusive which wasn’t the case here. You’ll be greatly punished for dishonoring you parents for no reason other than they tried to look out for you…. and well we all saw what happened in the end. It also came out later they had reason to be concerned cause even Vanessa ended up cutting her mom off for a money grab which is exactly what she did back then basically forcing the marriage.
