The dead zone In right field was where the visitors bullpen was. I have been going here for over 40 years and it’s aged like a fine wine. It’s old but still in decent shape.
I visited this ballpark just two months ago and I gotta say, while there was a lot I loved about it, it is in desperate need of a renovation. The seats down the line point toward the outfield, meaning that you have to either position yourself on the edge of your seat, or you need to have your neck crooked for 2-3 hours to watch the game. The concourse is pretty dated and ugly. The outfield seats are completely uncovered, meaning that the sun is bearing down on you (SoCal weather is gorgeous, but after a while you tend to get baked out there. A nice canopy over the exposed seats would go a long way). But I feel like the stadium has good bones. I love the rock pile+waterfall. The amenities are great (love those helmet nachos), and they have a lot of great things do and see around the concourse. I think it's salvageable with a renovation. Maybe do it and have them back at the old Chavez Ravine for a season so that there's no awkward mid-construction season where half the seats are blocked off.
Oh wow, is it still that way? When I went to my only game there in 2000 I sat to the side of 1B and was looking directly at the right fielder the whole game. To see home plate we had to turn and look over our left shoulders. Most awkward seating I had ever experienced. I assumed it was that way because they had not reconfigured the seats after football.
I grew up in Anaheim in the late sixties and seventies with the Angels when they had Fregosi, Knoop etc. I really miss the old Big A scoreboard out there which was very cool. I remember watching Harmon Killebrew hit a home run and nearly smacking a car parked beyond the fence. Funny that you showed the collapsed newer scoreboard on the addition never mentioning it was because of an earthquake. Not sure what you mean about an outdated upper deck. I've been to many MLB parks and its the same as any of those.
Do you remember the crappy hand clap animation they had way back when? And the screaming baseball after a home run? Went to a Yankee game that was a sellout or close to it at its max capacity, that was something
I think the Stadium is still good for the most part. Just that dead zone is the glaring issue, but if they wanted - they can gut all the seating and completely redo it all maybe into a new configuration. Also a gutting of some of the interior of the ballpark where age is showing to do major repairs of pipes, electrical lines, etc. I think the big thing for it would be a Tram extension from Disneyland and a change to it's parking lot to a parking structure so that it's more dead area outside the park can be converted for non-Baseball use while updating the Outfield look.
East coast perspective..loved the name California Angels and seeing the big A scoreboard..and the checkerboard grass pattern in outfield when watching the games late night as a kid.
I grew up going to Angel Stadium! I never saw its original form, it was multipurpose first in my childhoold, but i loved it. It wasnt polished or fancy, didnt really have extra ammenities besides concession stands, maybe even grimey in its feel, but thays what I loved about it. It didnt feel.clean and to me that was baseball! If your uniform wasnt dirty at the end of the game, you didnt have a good game. The Stadium personified baseball getting dirty to me. That doesnt fly anymore these days for a stadium, and Id take Angels stadium now over then for today. But I loved 80s and 90s Anaheim Stadium. I do think for the outfield scenery, they should move the Big A firther down the freeway so its visible off in the distance in left center field. Right now its hidden outt of sight

Rams left after the 94 season. Right field seats are brutal in the Sun. Right field home run years ago had to go into the seats. Also seats down the right field line are obstructed view. The right field seats block your view of the outfield.

Ive been going to Angels games since I was a kid and I have friends who thought that they torn down Anaheim Stadium and Edison Field/Angel Stadium was built in 1998
I went to what was called Anaheim Stadium, for the first time, in Sept 1988. On our way from San Diego after I graduated from Marine Corps Bootcamp, we stopped at the stadium and I bought tickets to watch the Angels vs the Royals. When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, if I had some time off, I’d drive up and watch a game. The last game I saw there was in 1993, when Nolan Ryan made his last start vs the Angels. I took the afternoon off from the mortgage company I worked for in Tustin. I paid $3 to sit in the left field upper deck seats. I moved out of California ten years later, never having returned to see the new configuration and name change. Now I live up in Minnesota, and I enjoy going to Target Field a few times a year.
Originally it was ANAHEIM Stadium thus, the Big A. The first stadium they played in as an MLB team was Wrigley Field - this one in LA. The Rams came to Anaheim because they wanted luxury suites at the Coliseum. The Coliseum commission said no. Later, when the Raiders were playing at the Coliseum, Al Davis ALSO wanted luxury suites and (supposedly) was given permission to do so and was in the process of clearing several top rows of seats before being told to stop. This led to the Raiders moving back to Oakland. The 'yellow line home run' was an inexplicable by-product of the 70s cookie cutter stadiums of the upper mid-west. He should have left good enough alone and called them what they are...Anaheim Angels.
The Los Angeles name change were purely financial. Angles were at the bottom of revenue even though being in the largest MLB market. Lakers Kings,Rams and Chargers use/used LA even when not playing in the city.
@@GregoryFariss LA is the SECOND largest market behind NYC. Changing the name BACK to the LA Angels was a SMART move, something they should NEVER have changed from in the first place. I had to laugh when you said the multipurpose version was discount Candlestick Park. You’re right, but I laughed because the shots of the original layout reminded me I’ve always thought that version was like discount Dodger Stadium
Two minor corrections: the capacity in 1966 was 40000, not 43000. There were 3000 temporary seats added for the 1967 All Star game, then removed. And they have played high school football games in its third life (not sure if they do anymore).
There was also football in its first life: high school, college (Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton, which have both dropped the sport) and pro (the WFL's Southern California Sun and at least one Rams preseason game), plus NASL soccer.
If you want to be exact about it, Anaheim Stadium opened with a capacity of 43,204. It was listed as 43,250 later on, in the mid- to late-'70s. Yes, there were a little over 3,000 temporary seats brought in for the 1967 All-Star Game, and if you look at the boxscore for that game, you'll see that the attendance was 46,309. Anaheim Stadium also hosted the World Football League's Southern California Sun in 1974-75. I'm not sure if extra seats were made available for the football games.
@@JTDutch The Long Beach State 49ers played at Anaheim Stadium on occasion from 1970 to 1976 and full time from 1977 to about 1984. Grew up in Anaheim. Been going since Nolan was striking them out for us! It's at it's best right now! The "dark period", IMO was when they enclosed it for the Rams. It was so ugly and faceless (and airless! Zero breeze!). Cool that they kept the "Big A", just moved it around, nice to keep some history.
I went there for the first and only time in the 90s with the enclosed setup it seemed bigger than dodgers stadium! Also it was also really clean! Sadly in 1994 when the earthquake happened the giant A jumbo from collapsed onto the seats below!
He gets a lot of things wrong but it's like talking to one of your buddies where people just give their opinions and no one fact checks every little thing.
You ever consider adding video visuals to your videos? You have countless videos and I'm surprised you have yet to start adding them on rather than just photos
Honestly, they do something similar to Dodgers Stadium with the outfield stands but do a big A in left with a video board and another in right with a scoreboard. Get rid of the weird curved build connected the main gate. Open it up with ornamental gate with Angels written above. Maybe add stone veneer to the exterior walls with palm trees around the outside of the stadium. In front of the new cleaned main put a beautiful art deco water fountain. Just to class the stadium up a bit. Also giving it own personality.
Looking at the Angels stadium before the football renovation, I wonder if anyone's car got hit by a home run? If they do get a new stadium in the future, hopefully the giant A gets moved to it.
Everyone has an opinion about Angels Stadium and that's fine. My opinion is that Angel Stadium is a really nice park- inside and outside now. The stadium is clean and easily accessible. When I go to Angels games I always have a great time and even better when they win that game. I went to Angels games during the 3 versions and hands down the original was the best followed by the current version.
They need to move the big A back behind left field. That would look awesome all lit up during a game. I agree, get rid of that massive up deck. Chop it in half.
The Angels have a really loyal fan base. They deserve better ownership. The stadium needs a complete overhaul with lots of entertainment surrounding it.
I can relate to many of these comments because I also grew up near here a long time ago. Go Halos! I wish the narrator had mentioned the view of the 57 freeway that's visible on TV. Does any other MLB stadium have that feature?
Kauffman will be gone in a few years, as the Royals will be announcing the location of their new stadium by the end of summer 2023, so I guess EVERYTHING will be moving through the parking lot at some point soon.
It looks fine I don’t understand what people’s issue is with it. Personally (and I say this as a life long stadium nerd) I think it looks way better then Dodger Stadium
All versions of Yankee Stadium & Citi Field also fall into this category as well because with the first version of Yankee Stadium, it was home of the NY Giants in addition to the Yankees. When the second version of Yankee Stadium was built, it was built exclusively for baseball. With the current version of Yankee Stadium, it is home to NYCFC of MLS along with the Yankees & NYCFC also plays a few games per season at Citi Field. This will end in 2027 when NYCFC will move into a soccer specific stadium in Queens & both Yankee Stadium & Citi Field will revert back to having baseball as the main attraction.
You mentioned the stadium being open during the 90s renovation, but it was the same in the late 70s when they were enclosing it for the Rams. Also, it's more likely the Angels will build a new stadium, rather than renovate this thing again. The question is whether or not it will stay in Anaheim. I've read Long Beach is a possibility.
Stadiums like this and Kaufman and Dodger Stadium are aging poorly because they have parking lots around them. Conversely, Comerica Park (which does have a lot of parking around it) is aging better as it is still in a urban zone and some of the surrounding parking lots are (hopefully) being redone as "District Detroit". Make it easy to park, but also make it easy to walk to the stadium and do something before or after the game.
Comerica also has two parking ramps, one of which connects directly to the ballpark. On top of that, the Lions play across the street, and the Pistons and Red Wings are blocks away. They'll never have any issues with parking, even if they need to do major work on either parking ramp since the Ford Field(Lions), and Little Caesars Arena parking are available if the Lions, Red Wings or Pistons aren't playing. This means that they can use the other lots if needed. The same is true for the other teams. Parking and access is one of the best benefits of having all four major sports teams within blocks of each others. On top of that the Qline trolley line is across the parking lot from Comerica. That means that it's easy for people who live along Woodward Avenue to get to the ballpark, Ford Field, and LCA.
There no reason to walk to Angel Stadium. They'd need to build up an entertainment district around it for that to happen. Honda Center is across the street, and there are a few things in the area, but the only thing else around really worth note is Disneyland and that's down the street a mile or more.
@@TheGodfather1955 Atlanta and Texas have moved on to new stadiums. Their prior stadiums were built in the same era. Also of the same era: Chicago (White Sox) did a pretty big renovation as did Cleveland and Colorado. Comerica Park has had minor upgrades, but is mostly the same as in 2000, which in part means that they designed it right to begin with.
@@MikeyKaos716 That is exactly with Detroit is "reportedly" doing now in what they call "District Detroit". Even without it, it is still only a 5 minute walk to Greektown or a 10 minute walk to the main part of downtown (Campus Martius). And Midtown just north of it has grown in very well in the last 20 years, with lots of restaurants within walking distance. Rare case of organic growth around a stadium after it has been built.
Been there a million times and it just feels meh. The upper deck has some areas with exposed rebar and they use black duct tape to cover it up. They should just cut their losses and sell the team to someone willing to relocate or revamp the whole stadium
There was a time that Anaheim Stadium hosted a college Bowl game. The Freedom Bowl? I want to say I went to that one year and I think it was UCLA v BYU. (All memory, so I could be wrong).
They're going to do a major renovation. It will update the look and feel, bring in modern touches and new features while also keeping the classic feel. It really just needs to shed off that Disney ownership look. Angles can also add a district and hotel in phases. This is completely do able with a new agreement for construction.

Nothing can be dated in baseball, it's America's past time. The fact that all the new stadiums have all these amenities to distract from the game also distracts the newer generations from what baseball is really about. Sad
And 3 different names - 1966-1997 = Anaheim Stadium 1998-2003 = Edison International Field of Anaheim 2004-present = Angel Stadium To me it's just "The Big A"

I went there for the first and only time in the 90s with the enclosed setup it seemed bigger than dodgers stadium! Also it was also really clean! Sadly in 1994 when the earthquake happened the giant A jumbo from collapsed onto the seats below!
Do enjoy watching videos like this and learning about the history of different stadiums or arenas.
I think they should just go ahead and build an entire new Stadium at this point
Everyone has an opinion about Angels Stadium and that's fine. My opinion is that Angel Stadium is a really nice park- inside and outside now. The stadium is clean and easily accessible. When I go to Angels games I always have a great time and even better when they win that game. I went to Angels games during the 3 versions and hands down the original was the best followed by the current version.
7:31 It’s not in LA. it’s in Anaheim in Orange County. Not even in LA County.
To the rest of the world outside that area, Anaheim is just an LA suburb.
Orange County is part of the LA Metropolitan Area
i like the design of Angel stadium and dodger stadium, and honestly all architecture in the 60s.
I don't see the upper deck as outdated.
They need to move the big A back behind left field. That would look awesome all lit up during a game. I agree, get rid of that massive up deck. Chop it in half.
Can u do video on dodger stadium renovation?
The Angels have a really loyal fan base. They deserve better ownership. The stadium needs a complete overhaul with lots of entertainment surrounding it.
I can relate to many of these comments because I also grew up near here a long time ago. Go Halos! I wish the narrator had mentioned the view of the 57 freeway that's visible on TV. Does any other MLB stadium have that feature?
When they renovated Kauffman i wish they would have moved the old Crown scoreboard to the parking lot like Anaheim did with the Big A
Kauffman will be gone in a few years, as the Royals will be announcing the location of their new stadium by the end of summer 2023, so I guess EVERYTHING will be moving through the parking lot at some point soon.
Rams left after the 1994 NFL season
I think if they had shown the same attention to Oakland I think it could have saved the coliseum.
It looks fine
I don’t understand what people’s issue is with it. Personally (and I say this as a life long stadium nerd) I think it looks way better then Dodger Stadium
Who can forget the stadiums cameo in the comedy classic The Naked Gun? Such an ugly nostalgic park.
Uh that was Dodger Stadium they used
It does host the Southern California High School football championship game each year in November/December
Should have kept the bullpens in the corners. They also should have seats in front of the rock pile, like Kansas City put seats in the outfield.
Monster Energy Supercross also goes their
All versions of Yankee Stadium & Citi Field also fall into this category as well because with the first version of Yankee Stadium, it was home of the NY Giants in addition to the Yankees.
The current Yankee Stadium is the "second" one. The first one was renovated once in the 70s.
That "dead zone" houses all the landscaping and batting cages you know.
Amd when it was fully enclosed it was the visiting teams bullpen
The newer stadiums avoid such dead zones by putting all that stuff out by the batter's eye.
Did they mean for the original configuration to be a clone of Dodger Stadium?
O don’t mention a retractable roof needed for the Stadium
Comerica Park aging? Its still fairly new.
They should just cut their losses and sell the team to someone willing to relocate or revamp the whole stadium
sit in section 220-221 and look at the green rotting metal on the support beams for the club level.
Angels stadium isn't in LA. Its Anaheim.

I grew up going to games here and at Dodger Stadium. I vividly remember it in its enclosed state, was very cavernous when it was like that.
In the 70s the WFL had a team play at Anaheim stadium the southern California sun .
Been to this stadium so many times, since 1993
How is The Stadium in Person For Baseball As a Phillies Fan?
@@vinceniederman it should be great. The fans are usually chill, so no worries there. Make the trip if ya can!

Wow originally people parked their cars right behind the outfield fence? Seems like a bad idea for any homeruns hitting windshields.
Will angels get new stadium 🏟?
Rumor is the Chargers are moving to Anaheim and Anaheim stadium will revert back to a dual purpose stadium
Nah. The Rams like and appreciate the Chargers paying rent. Its gonna be another decade before Chargers look around
😂😂😂 Yeah not happening
chargers are co owners of Sofi
Sofi is too modern to leave anytime soon
@@a.g.jordaniii5025 I agree
I have seen that stadium its pretty nice out there in anaheim
Angels will end up building a new stadium in Inglewood where the forum currently stands.
Nothing can be dated in baseball, it's America's past time. The fact that all the new stadiums have all these amenities to distract from the game also distracts the newer generations from what baseball is really about. Sad
And 3 different names -
1966-1997 = Anaheim Stadium
1998-2003 = Edison International Field of Anaheim
2004-present = Angel Stadium
To me it's just "The Big A"
You should team up and collaborate with forgoten places or five points vids
Team needs a Green Monster, ivy on bricks, something that makes people think hey Angels baseball is on. I can’t wait to see the red infield or the ball hit into the Angels corner in sort of LCF as it caroms in who knows what direction. The Rally Monkey. A shower in the bleachers like in US Cellular Field. An outfield wall in right field like the angled part of RF in Ebbets Field or an overhang. A ballpark for triples.
Is the angels stadium in a decent hood ?
Don’t forget that “Awkward Phase” in 1997!
IT’S NOT A PHASE MOM
The Angels should go back to be the Anaheim Angels they won the World Series with that name
California Angels would be better. Or even the SoCal Angels.
Not likely unless Moreno sells. The LA thing is his doing.
Born and raised in LA, fan of both teams - prefer California Angels name
It's Stupid should of kept the name Anaheim no where do they play in Los Angeles Let alone LA County Their in Orange County Owner is stupid.
@@StogiePalace I loved when they were the California Angels better, it has a nicer ring to it.
This is down the freeway from my house haha
I have a brilliant idea. Why don't they remove all the outfield seating and put in drinking rails! Now that's an original idea!
There's barely any standing room only views from center to right field. I've been to this stadium hundreds of times. It needs to go. They need a new stadium. It feels VERY dated.

That was the original plan and it was close to being green lit but political games got in the way.
MLB still not marketing Ohtani properly. Most of the country has never seen him play on ESPN or Fox. Maybe you should do a video about that. You might wake some people up.
I dont know about other ballparks but the viewing angle along the 1st/3rd base lines are horrible. The strain on my neck was awful.
That old Yankee stadium was played in for hundred years before renovations
No, it was not. As I write this it was 100 years ago when the thing was built, and the Yankees haven't played there since 2008.
The stadium is decent the concourses are basic concrete

I mean the Los Angeles angles of Anaheim come on! . Anaheim angles should’ve just remained or even the Orange County angles at one time before they changed it to the current name I’ll never put the angles as a team of Los Angeles sorry . sure once they were the California angles the state obviously California gene Audrey but never a Los Angeles county team . to me they’ll always be the Anaheim angles the team of Orange County
