    Im in San Diego. A few years ago when the Padres weren't that good, I would buy the $9 seats on a warm summer night and basically sit in right field and be all alone. I'd get myself some peanuts, hot dog and beer and just relax. There wouldn't be anyone around me. Those were the good ol days.

    The area in center field with no seats is common at all stadiums and is referred to as the "batter's eye." It helps the batter have a clearer look at pitches.

    • @bas3q
      @bas3q 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      The one at Angels Stadium is wider than a normal batter's eye in part because of the football seats they ripped out when they renovated Anaheim Stadium back in the late 90s. This was after the Rams left town for St. Louis...if you can believe that ever happened.

    • @JimmyLewisMows
      @JimmyLewisMows 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@bas3q Makes sense. What's also interesting about that stadium is that beneath the field is a layer of soil (not sure how thick, but from what I understand it's not more than around 8-10"), and then it's concrete. This provides an added challenge to the grounds crew because they aren't able to push the grass roots as deep as they would like to in order to better withstand the stress of gameplay and other activities on the field throughout the year. The positive though is that field is Bermuda grass and that stuff can survive just about anything.

    • @CharlesEzakichi
      @CharlesEzakichi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I remember Wrigley still had the original wood bleachers in center field until the early 2000. Just a big empty section. Now it's a fancy club.

    That green area in center field is called “the batters eye area” Gives the batter a place to clearly pickup the white ball. I think some ballparks have different colors there but that’s the idea. That’s for the game day experience. Looks like something I might enjoy.

    That dove has a death wish apparently! I remember, so vividly, watching a game on TV when I was a kid (I loved baseball when I was younger), Randy Johnson was pitching for the Diamondbacks and BOOM! A puff of feathers. What the HECK?! The announcers were confused at first, no one knew what they actually just saw. He pitched a fastball right into a dove! And it pretty much exploded and the body just vanished upon impact, turned into a cloud of feathers and bird particulate matter. Morbid, but fascinating to say the least. That’s funny because 501/401 has been my new go-to section this year, especially for day games. Vantage point over absolutely everything, and the shade comes down to even the lowest seats, not long after game start. The breeze is really nice and cool. No one sits around there on day games. Sometimes stoners hang out near the bathrooms. 😆

Tropicana Field, Oakland Coliseum, Guaranteed Rate Field, Chase Field, Rogers Centre all exist and you think The Big A is a bottom 5 ballpark? The turfed off seating area in Center Field is for the Batter's eye. I think stadiums are required to have some sort of a clear batter's eye so when batting at the plate, they can see the pitch clearly without moving fans, or worse, people in Center Field trying to distract the batter with gleam off the eye using metal objects, laser pointers, etc,,,

    I think the reason for the turf in center field is actually just to have a solid background for the batter. A lot of stadiums have solid background there so that the ball doesn't blend into a mixed background :)

    This video, while entertaining, shows exactly why baseball attendance is on the rapid decline: pricing. The big appeal of baseball used to how cheap it was to attend a game. It didn't matter your income level, anyone could afford to go. I remember the days when my hometown of Tucson, Arizona had the minor league affiliate for the Diamondbacks, the Tucson Sidewinders, and general admission tickets were less than $9. You could sit anywhere you wanted in the stadium. I miss the old days of baseball.

    "There's something really relaxing about a baseball game..." You can definitely say that again! Watching baseball is relaxing for me, never boring, I have never been stressed out watching a game, and just plain fun! I have yet to do an Angel's game, but I have been to their minor league affiliate's games many times.
