  • This past weekend my sister and I visited Korkeasaari Zoo 🤗! In this (mostly) Finnish vlog, we will take a walk around the zoo and practice casual Finnish in real situations surrounding the topic of animals. Follow along as we explore different species and enjoy the beautiful autumnal surroundings!
    Tickets gifted by ‪@Korkeasaarenelaintarha‬
    Some facts about Korkeasaari:
🦦 It’s open 365 days a year! So you can LITERALLY visit any day of the year!
🐍 During the summer you can get to the island via boat from Kauppatori or all throughout the year you can cross over from the bridge on Mustikkamaa. Bus number 16 goes straight from Rautatientori to the front gates too! In 2027 there will also be a direct tram line opening
🐫A normal adult ticket costs 20€
🦉There is a dedicated section to Finnish wildlife called Korpi, but they also have other species.
🐯There is a lot of info about the conservation work and where the animals come from not only on signs in the park, but also on their website. For example combating the illegal wildlife trade, re-wilding endangered animals, field work and research. Definitely worth reading about on their website if this is something that is important to you! You can also create fundraisers supporting your favorite cause on their website: kerays.korkeas...
🐸 They also act as a wildlife hospital and sometimes in the news you hear about cases in Finland where a wild animal is hurt and taken to Korkeasaari for treatment before being released again (when possible). Annually about 1500 hurt or orphaned animals are brought here.
🐐 Their aim is to also be carbon neutral by 2030!
🍂I think going to a mostly outdoor zoo isn’t the first thing that comes to mind as a fall activity… but I highly recommend if it’s not raining! There are less people and all the walking paths look so pretty with the autumnal colors! 😍
🐻 We also had lunch at Ravintola Karhu. They have amazing vegan and gluten free options so I had a tofu bowl 😋
🐢There is a TV show called Korkeasaari that you can watch on channel 4 or Ruutu which tells about what goes on at the zoo. The second season actually starts next week!

Thanks, I did the Google maps thing...and I was able to do the street view and walk on the paths! Glad to see you had some time out with your sister. I haven't been to the zoo in years, I think the Singapore zoo was the last one. I do remember the San Diego zoo having lots of conservation programs. Oh and you may need some more stretching....another yoga video?!? Hope it made you smile. Kiitos

Hello all, I am trying to find a website where I can buy traditional finnish clothes. I cannot find anything unfortunately. Does anyone here knows if there is an online shop ore something similar?

What do you mean by Finnish traditional clothes?

@@KatChatsFinnish Hello, thank you for answering to my comment! I meant the clothes that people in Finnland used to wear in the late medieval times or in the 17th/18th/19th century. I was watching an amasing video of a famous Kantele player on TH-cam the other day. She was wearing a beautiful old Finnish costum (white puffy sleeve's shirt, long skirt, apron etc.). I started researching the old traditional clothes of Scandinavia and I found it mesmerizing. I haven't found any online shop yet that sells these kinds of costums or parts of it (i.e. the shirts or the skirts). Any help from a Finnish person is more than welcome. Thank you for your time!

Also the medieval market has an email that you can probably send a message to and get their recs to online shops! this email info@keskiaikamarkkinat.net from keskiaikamarkkinat.net/keskiajan-vaatteet/

We practically do not have cockroaches in Finland. I saw two small cockroaches in more than ten years. 🪳
The most common insect that I saw inside a house is sokeritoukka (silverfish).
They are small, about 10-12 mm long, and harmless. They live in moist places, for example, bathroom.
