Who knew New Mexico had ice caves and a ring of volcanoes?!? We were pleasantly surprised as we were road tripping through NM and saw a billboard for ice caves and volcanoes, of course we had to go. Check it out!

I was searching for the house that Ann Baxter built and my parents bought, at 9900 Ice Caves Rd. We knew the Candelarias and I grew up in Grants. We took the bus to school on highway 53 south every morning. Thank you for sharing.

Ur In the Real Volcano state!! We have EVERY type here! Super too. We have Marrs here. Only Found in New Mexico! Again, Every Type we have!

I visited the ice caves with a friend in late June and we wore hoodies on advice from friends and I'm glade we did. The small pound was not frozen over but the edge had ice slush. The hike to the volcano rim is all up hill of course and I was winded as I was not acclimated to the elevation yet. I don't remember it costing $12 though, I may have passed it by if I had been that much.

Hope the response isn't too late for you. I live in San Diego but left my hometown of Albuquerque 30 years ago. The beautiful arch is La Ventana arch, near El Malpais national monument. The volcano is La Bandera volcano near the Ice Cave. I plan to visit those places shortly. I hope you will get to enjoy those areas sometime. Ice Caves closes in November.

Draw on a cave 10,000 years ago, it’s an irreplaceable archaeological and tourist attraction. Draw on a cave twenty years ago and it’s defacing graffiti. Draw on a cave now, go to jail or pay a huge fine. People are weird. LOL
