Glad you gave your Honest opinion about Air Impacts and Ratcheting wrenches.
From what I've noticed so far with the Cordless tools is they don't last near as long as Air tools before needing to be Repaired.
And the Battery Cost is Ridiculous. Shop Air is Free for Me 😂
I've got some Air tools that are 30 plus years old and have never been Rebuilt. A little oil during everyday use goes a long way.

Yep . My wife and I did our C7 rear radiator RV in Mina Nevada. You have to access this area by removing the floor in the back closet in the RV . Fun times in the desert ! I found out that 90 degrees at 11 % humidity is better than 90 degrees here in Dallas.
Thanks to the Adapt Ape for coaching me on RV repairs!

Great tips in this video. Start all the bolts by hand and check the o-rings with a mirror before tightening. Nothing like thinking you finished the job only to have a pinched o-ring leak! Too bad your socket didn't drop down into a crevice of the subframe requiring 30 minutes of searching and another 10 minutes of extraction time with a magnet. Oh the joys of being a line mechanic 8 hours a day 😂

Socket extensions are torsion springs. They reduce the effectiveness of impact tools. The longer the extension the worse the energy loss will be. In addition, socket connections (using one or more extensions) will reduce the impulse at the socket. Best scenario for an impact tool is to use only a socket. Hand tools like ratchets, breaker bars, and torque wrenches are not effected by this.

That right angle impact is amazing, thing has around 220 ft/lbs of torque, of course its a bit bigger than a ratchet but it saves time where it does fit

Nice video mate. I’m a road transport mechanic in Western Australia, don’t see the C9 at all really here. I went into mining and was surprised too see on the 785 dump trucks the water pump was meant to have a leak 😳. Goes against everything I was taught!

9:00 be glad you have Cummins mechanics because the manufacture pursued with building engines having emissions. Emissions such as DPF, NOX, Aftertreatment etc. Not exactly sure what your knowledge is dealing with emissions being you are a CAT specialist, however will say and "as you know..." CAT pretty much said to hell with all that and stick'd with off road for their brand based on performance.
Been following your channel for years and like to watch every episode you post on YT. My thoughts are, don't get bummed out because they are Cummins supporters. Be grateful because you never know when a truck shows up to your shop and its a Cummins with emission problems.
I personally would LOVE to drive a Kenworth W900 or Pete 389 with a C15 having compounded turbos on a 18 speed with a straight pipe dual stacks. I know the power is there, but would be a definite treat for me on my bucket list of things to do in life.

I would suggest looking up the Torque Test Channel on how extensions on impact guns affect performance. They also test just about everything else related to impact gun performance and review tools among other things. On the ratcheting wrench like you I don't like breaking bolts loose with them so that usually means the regular wrench is the tool that I have closest to me when I go to put everything back together.

The one cat engine I ever worked on, back when I was a traveling freelancer was for a water pump, was a different style, was pretty much just a box that bolted on up high on the front of the engine. I knew less at the time, I didn't even know what series it was (guy that called me in just said "here's a water pump, replaces the one on that engine there") but I remember it being so easy, made me wish I had more heavy diesel experience so I could switch to just doing that instead of my general "if it's got nuts, bolts, or screws, I'll fix it"

This video is very interesting because the C9s we have in our buses from 2007 don't look like this one. Ours are in transit buses so obviously a much larger alternator, mounted on top of the engine, and the a/c compressor is totally separate and driven by a dedicated belt coming from the crank pulley. But I'm looking at things like the oil filter housing - ours look quite different, they have 4 big Allen plugs on the side and top. And this one's front structure looks totally different from ours. We very rarely have water pump failures, but I have done one and it was the same process. Were there different iterations/versions of the C9?

Changing the alternator on my ex's car the bolt fell in between the alternator and the mounting bracket. Had to remove it to get it. The belt adjustment on it is crap too. I swear it has like an 80+ ft lbs of tension on it. The adjuster is also just far enough to the upper right to not be able to get a breaker bar on it. Really annoying.

  • @InsanePacoTaco

From what I recall, air impacts only have one dog on the anvil so it gets hit once per rotation whereas a cordless impact has two dogs on the anvil so it gets hit twice every rotation. I'm sure the Torque Test Channel could explain how this changes its behavior with extensions but I don't know the why behind this.

    • @zytekfan

Does the alternator bracket and alternator it self have any locating pins or guides on bolt holes for centering it? On marine c9 with different type of alternator mount you don't have them and once I had a problem with one engine, client loosing three belts, in the end it was because someone changed water pump and didn't align alternator properly

You said the larger Cat engines have oil supplied to the gear driven water pumps.. is there anything that can fail within the water pump to cause oil and coolant to mix there? Still trying to figure out why my friend's C15 ACERT is mixing oil into the coolant.. I replaced the oil cooler again and the air compressor and I still believe the problem is present.

hey brother Adept, my 1998 GMC TOPKICK C7500 has a 3126 CAT. And my truck was sitting for a week or so, and I noticed the coolant has almost leaked out. Big puddle on the ground. But the tech said it has a "cold leak" from the water pump. Usually pressure is built up inside water pump and if the seals on the water pump are bad, that is probably the issue. But the truck has never leaked in months it has been sitting. It ran for a day, and few days later , this happens. what is your suggestion in reference to this "cold leak?" Thanks...
