Thanks so much for posting this! Grew up in Germany listening to this as a kid and it still makes me happy to hear those guys killing it. Long live Big Band Music!
Beautiful and even 'Great'. Max Greger was the best in American Jazz (specially Glenn Miller style) among German bands. I appreciate this. But Joseph, please don't misunderstand me. Why? Because, in this video, according to me, it isn't suitable that Max allowed for a parade with 'American flags'. I've started thinking if Max sometimes forgot he is a German or not. Whereas J.Last, H.Strasser, W.Müller, A.Hause, W.Berkin, Kai Warner, P.Kuhn didn't do that so. Furthermore, French bands didn't that too. To play American Jazz and to allow for American flags are different from each other.
Good afternoon ... I hope you're enjoying a good weekend. I, ever, going to misinterpret anything that comes from the music. I am Spanish and I would not come to appreciate concepts, feelings, rootedness in reference to nationalities that are not my own. If you asked me my opinion about the existing problem of separatism in Spain over Catalonia ... I would have no objection to giving my opinion. I do not wish to omit any answer ... I could tell that by some conductors: Max Greger, Bert Kaempfert, if there was an interest in making his a music market and a style that would be meaningless, if not was to sell more (Leave aside the "feelings" Americans). Bert Kaempfert was the most recognized orchestra director in the United States of all of his time. I do not think it was in the interest of their record company, Polydor, as it would have done the same with other bandleaders of his record label. If I'm honest, Max Greger and Bert Kaempfert Germans are not my favorite. Everything has to explain ... Max Greger as "poor" encounter in performing arrangements of the compositions. I never thought it was a great saxophonist, and his son playing the piano ... who accompanied him. Regarding Kaempfert ... I find his "very linear" music. He has had good musicians in his orchestra. (At that time musicians interventions were distributed in different orchestras). Many were session musicians. I say "linear" ... gives me no emotion when I listen to his music. I recognize that you have some good compositions. I also believe that it has been overrated compared to other large German masters. Werner Müller, as arranger is one of the best. An example ... if you listen to the album W. Müller: "The Latin Splendor of Werner Müller" (1970), you will realize what I tell you: "Excellent arrangements, musicians, performances ... Tell me one album Kaempfert to equal it. the force transmitted when you listen to this album invites you to dance, if only. you hear B. Kaempfert ... you can invite to lift the needle off the record ... ". "It's just my opinion after many years listening to different orchestras in different countries". As always ... friendly greetings.
