I am the great niece of Roy Acuff and it was amazing growing up watching them make music on the mountain on Saturday nights. I was truly blessed to see this. Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs Roy Acuff my grandparents and neighbors.
I heard a lot of country Music when I was little. The WLS national Barn Dance in Chicago was one of our favorites, & the Grand ole Opry, in Nashville Tennessee was another. My husband took me to Nashville, when we're young. It was nice. I heard Hank Lochland sing "Send me the Pillow that you Dream on"! It was real good! I'm always amazed, when I think that Hank Williams was only 29 yrs old when he bied, because he wrote a LOT of songs in his short life!
Melissa Sweet ILove Allman brothers and there older separate older and good friends who are so awesome even today. Can you please let me hear my best wishes to take me back to my cancer in myself and I'm thankful for you and your u tube thanks. Sweet Melissa
These guys were all first-class but I love the fact that Boxcar Willie shared the stage with these country legends and he was exceptional -- as always. What a fiery concert. This is wet-your-pants country. Worth the price of admission. Performers & singers par excellence. Listen to that audience.
The only thing that would have put more talent on that stage would be hank Williams sr, Johnny cash, Johnny Horton and the Osborn brothers with maybe hank Williams jr as well
Some of us actually got to ride in them some 60 years ago while they were still being used for freight because the new diesels couldn't pull anything but passengers.....Wasn't until the traction units came out that they could..... was the best of simple life.....
I grew up by the tracks like Ol Box. I’m only 37 but they still run one now and then and it’s a beautiful sound to my ears. Now a train rolls through town and nobody even knows who it is anymore.
Probably the greatest cowboy get down ever.. Box Car whistles, Roy singing and Charlie Daniels smokin on the fiddle..take that night train to memphis!!!
This is what there was before commercial country music. I grew up in east Tennessee and heard it on B&W TV when it was called 'hillbilly music' and I was infatuated with Chopin and Rachmaninoff as my brother played classical piano. Hillbilly music gave way to 'commercial country' out of Nashville studios and tours and TV shows. Audiences bought country music records and TV shows and hillbilly music largely faded away from public acceptance.
@@Safra62 basically you need proper full control tongue because you need to be able to bend it in half lengthwise to get anywhere near been able to do it.
Such amazing talent in country in those days. This generation are missing out on true talent as there’s nobody with a fraction of the talent and charisma these older country singers had.
In 1980, my now wife of nearly 40yrs.,and her parents and mine on a spur of the moment seen boxcar was playing in wheeling w.va. Jamboree that night .So we decided that we would all go 1.5 drive, my wife said she would not recognize boxcar if she saw him. We were the last in the door after parking ,we were walking in the lobby, she looking for our parents, as usual not watching were she is going, I said stop to late she plowed right into boxcar as he walked thru the lobby. I said now can you recognize boxcar willy. He laughed he was apologizing, thanked us for coming . Wasn't even his fault. Never be any more like boxcar and Charley. Both great entertainers and gentlemen. I was bless to meet both. God bless there families for sharing them with us 🇺🇸🙏
I love watching entertainers having as much fun as the audience. This is a magnificent performance! I always heard that if you could find something to do that you love you'll never work a day in your life. These guys love performing and for them it's not work. Thank you for posting this.
During WW2 the official service magazine, Stars and Stripes, had readers vote on different talent categories. Roy Acuff was voted best male singer 4 years straight.
These guys were great but that Boxcar Willie -- what a fiery entertainer he was. Boxcar Willie probably would've been a musician who could've played and sung with any of the greats of country music. I was really impressed with several of the live videos I have seen of him. Polished, sincere and just wonderful each time out. I'm glad he was able to perform live with Charlie Daniels and Roy Acuff -- Willie earned his position beside them & to share a stage with the likes of them. He became a member of the Grand Ole Opry and he deserved that too. RIP
It just doesn't get any better than this! Hope when we get to heaven these peopel are there making this kind of music! I was raised on the Grand Old Opry and country music as well. These stars were icons.
My family and I had the joy of seeing Roy at the GOO many times when I was younger, we saw Bocxar and Charlie at our County Fair as well. Instead of feeling old, I feel feel blessed to have witnessed such great artist and seeing Roy get down just makes the heart smile.
I grew up with these guys, Johnny Cash, Waylon, and Willie. Can't believe they're all gone now but Willie. They were great and so was their music. No more good music made anymore. It all sucks 😕
Right! I love Roy Acuff, Boxcar, and even ol' Charlie Daniels. All 3 are legends. What I DON'T appreciate is how they added Rock n' Roll to "Wabash Cannonball". Roy Acuff was smiling and respectful, as old schoolers are, for the most part. He is Classic AUTHENTIC Country, and his Music should have been performed as such....to HONOR Roy Acuff as "HE" is in the Music World. Did they improve it by Rocking the Song out? To me....they RUINED a LEGENDARY Song and INSULTED Roy Acuff. Today's Country, for the most part, (Not All, Thank God!!) ISN'T Country.....and shouldn't be called Country! My opinion.
DON'T FORGET STEVIE RAY AND ALL THE GREAT BLUES MEN. BTW - CHARLIE DANIELS AIN'T GONNA MAKE IT TO HEAVEN - HE KNOWS BETTER THAN TO TOUCH ANOTHER MAN'S HAT AND THEN TRY TO EAT IT! ROFL! THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS I HAVE WATCHED IN A LONG TIME - DOUBLE BRAVO!

I’m 75 yrs old and still enjoy the song as performed on this video.

Boxcar Willie is a country music legend himself.
I own one of his albums.
You will never, NEVER, NEVER, EVER EVER see that much greatness and talent together on a platform again...EVER :-(
Don’t be sad there gone. Be happy that they were ever here. It’s for that reason that the sun keeps shining as brightly as it does today.
The only thing that would have put more talent on that stage would be hank Williams sr, Johnny cash, Johnny Horton and the Osborn brothers with maybe hank Williams jr as well
@@theblocksmith645 I'm partial to Hank 3 myself
Nobody did a steam whistle like Box Car Willie. For those too young to remember, that is exactly what a steam whistle sounded like.
Only difference - a real steam whistle was loud enough to wake the dead.
The Big Boy just went out on a test run, the whistle is haunting, to say the least
Some of us actually got to ride in them some 60 years ago while they were still being used for freight because the new diesels couldn't pull anything but passengers.....Wasn't until the traction units came out that they could.....

So, too, could Onie Wheeler and, of course, Roy Acuff himself.
R.I.P. to these country legends. They're all together again now.
Charlie Daniel's is still alive
@@hawkboy1792 Unfortunately he died July 6th.
The good have gone on and left us .
I miss these guys and this authentic style of country music.
Yes 3 of the best!
What a bunch of great singers , that will be missed forever.
And Charlie Daniels
Three all time legends on the stage playing a classic country song
Why can't we have music like this anymore? Such a sad world we live in, these men were putting there all into play for the crowd. I miss ole Boxcar.
agree, but the world evolves, and so does the music, sad but true...
Blame Chet Akins promoting the "Nashville Sound"... That's what really destroyed classic country music

These three guys are a "Combination" in their own right! It just doesn't get any better than this....I miss this kind of music....
Three legends now up in heaven jamming with the likes of Johnny Cash, Waylon, and Loretta.
I don't believe you will ever see this kind of musical magic on any platform ever again rip to all the greats 💔😭🙏🇯🇲🎧love from jamaica
Box Car Willie should be in the CMHOF. What a shame. He was an international ambassador for country music.
how is he not in the hall??

they don't make country singer's like these guys anymore. love to hear you and watch how the band and everyone enjoy themselves

man boxcar Willie sure does have that train whistle down pat. my son really loves this song and so do I long live boxcar Willie 😇
This is just pure awesome COUNTRY GOLD.... What is considered Country Music today can’t hold a candle to this.

It saddens me that Charlie Daniels is dead. He was my first concert and my absolute favorite musician.
dont be sad, be happy of the good memories you have!
He is very much alive in heaven
Boxcar Willie is AWESOME performing his famous Locomotive Steam Whistle!!!!!
How does he do that Steam Whistle, can someone explain that to me?

best country music and real country not like todays music. i would give anything to see a concert with roy and all the greats .. amazing. Miss them

Real traditional country music. What's called country music today is only CMINO, Country Music In Name Only without soul.
Such amazing talent in country in those days. This generation are missing out on true talent as there’s nobody with a fraction of the talent and charisma these older country singers had.
