"73,000 waited for the return of their beloved Browns, and tonight they got it"
That was absolutely ice cold.
"....and they got that tonight." There.
Little did anybody know that this game was gonna be a look into the next 25 years of Browns football
Except 2020
That was at least revenge on the Steelers finally for that ‘99 opening night
except 2020 and 2023, I mean still not good but those were glimpses into how good browns were in the 80s

“We’re going to let Tim Couch sit and develop”

“We’re starting Tim Couch”
Amazing how you can go from a Superbowl winning QB one year, then suck the next
The amazing thing is the Texans learned absolutely nothing from the Browns and threw David Carr behind an expansion OL on opening day and let him get pummeled to the tune of 76 sacks
Drew did that entire speech for nothing ☠️
Ironic for Browns fans that not only did they get smacked, they got smacked by their boogeyman yet again.
@@michaelhession2105 The high point of a bad Steeler season....The low point? How on Earth did we lose the rematch to these guys in Pittsburgh?
@@camicawber Well its long been a Steeler tradition for them to play down their competition. Thats the best way you can describe.
@@michaelhession2105 Makess me nervous for tonight.
@@camicawber I don't blame you one bit because this same Browns team beat the Ravens in a game that they were heavily favored to win. Not to mention Pittsburgh has only won in the Dawg Pound once since 2018. Although this is Cleveland and they always find ways to screw it up especially against the Steelers.
0:50 Over 25 years later and we’re still making Cleveland jokes we will never shut up
Yea
The reason why the Ravens and Steelers are such a good rivalry is because the will always be the original Cleveland Browns . Not in appearance , or name, but definitely in spirit .
This, exactly.. 👏🏻 It's an aspect of that rivalry that never seems to be brought up enough, either. The Ravens are really just the relocated '96 Browns. A great rivalry.
@@VaderPopsVicodin10 Too bad the Ravens organization wants ZERO to do with the loser Browns and so gave them back all their Cleveland records lmao.
@EFL32 it's true but the Baltimore Ravens became what the Browns were. Cleveland had 4 NFL Titles and 4 AAFC Titles before the 1996 move.
The Ravens were the evolution of that.
Modern Cleveland has the records but that's because the city fought their right to keep. The spirit of the modern Browns isn't the same as the Paul Brown or Art Modell Browns.
Hell the Cincinnati Bengals have more in common with the pre 1963 Browns than Cleveland does. The Brown family still owns them.
Cowher’s 90s teams were so damn tough. They just lacked a consistent qb for the playoffs.
Kordell Stewart was the perfect example. Dude was a crazy athlete and so much fun to watch. Always lead us to the playoffs but could never go far.
Big Ben changed everything when he came in 04
Ben Roethlisberger became the one thing the Steelers were looking for since the days of Terry Bradshaw, and that was an elite quarterback.
Facts
Slash would've been elite in the modern era
Yup. If Chan Gailey hadn't left the Steelers to become the Cowboys HC after the 97 season, Slash would've been better. Gailey knew how to draw up plays that fit with his skillset.
The Cleveland Browns would have had Ray Lewis yelling any Dawgs in tha house with the stadium barking in unison... oh, and 2 Super Bowl Titles in 2000 and 2012... Woops.
Browns would’ve screwed it up
Drew reminds me of the Paintball kid from the OG TH-cam days 😂😂😂
I feel like we all had a kid like that in our neighborhood
Everything about this is hilarious, especially in retrospect
Was this the Drew Carey game?
Edit: It was, indeed, the Drew Carey game.
This was not the comeback party that Cleveland was looking for
It’s crazy to think that one of the most historic Football franchises ever just stopped existing for 3 seasons all because of their shitty owner
When your highest highlight is a completed pass, it's not going to go to well
It’s crazy how this was such a sign of things to come I’m sorry Browns fans you don’t deserve the mess you always deal with
NFL Throwback inflicting violence on Browns fans with this upload
We didn't need this
The game that would continue the Browns legacy of failure…
It's impressive that the browns still play the same.
They are consistent
I seriously think if you look at the stats of this game, its the biggest blowout of all time. I know teams have lost by more points in a game but never anything like this. 33 first downs to 2. 47 minutes of TOP for the steelers. They ran the ball 57 times. Unbelievable
It really is shockingly bad, I have no idea why the Browns were that anemic that night
What's crazy is that the Browns won the rematch in Pittsburgh later that year! So like, the 99 Browns were bad but not as bad as this game.
Honestly a good college team could have put up a better fight than the browns. 40 yards of offense and 2 first downs in an entire game is almost hard to believe.
And the Cleveland Browns have been in hell since!
This was as much ritual sacrifice as a football game. Putting an expansion team on Sunday Night Football against a divisional opponent and historic rival that's a Super Bowl Contender? Poor Cleveland, and they still haven't really recovered.
Were the Steelers Super Bowl contenders going into '99? They were a 7-9 team the year before.
@@Jeremy_theGent Steelers are always tough, Kordell might of had an injury the season before he was playing though.
@@Jeremy_theGent Broncos, Vikings and LOL jaguars had best odds to win it all in 1999. Steelers were 50-1. Browns were 200-1. The team that won it all was the same sorry ass Rams at 150-1 who replaced that moniker with the Greatest Show on Turf by seasons end.
Browns beat the Steelers in pittsburgh later that year....

Evergreen statement
The Browns are the Ravens. 🤡
Who would've thought that 43-0 would result in 43 years of failure for the Browns. Still got 20 more until they become good.
I remember back when it was told on the news, that we in maryland were getting the Browns, wal-marts were loaded with Browns merch for two weeks until the court ruling over the namesake, Baltimore Browns would've not worked out and Browns would just been retired like the Oilers 😅 if Cleveland hadn't stood their ground.
I wish we didn't get the football team back
*_And just like that, the tone of Browns 2.0 was set!_*
Oh Drew, you're going to love what's coming in the next 25 years.
No wonder the Browns & Steelers are the toughest rivalry in the AFC North Division!!! God bless Browns #1 fan (The Price is Right host) Drew Carey!!!
Mike Polk? LeBron?
Future host of TPIR there.
The Browns' first NFL game since Week 17 of the 1995 season.
Way to make a point Commander Obvious. SHUT UP ALREADY.

Your TH-cam Channel Is Awesome NFL Throwback
Posting this in advance of a Browns/Steelers TNF game is just out of pocket 😭
Jokes on you Drew…😂
Futility of Browns was the theme of this video 😅
I had this game on VHS tape. It was like 40 something to nothin. They had Kordell and the Steelers looking unstoppable.
Explosions and an incredible entrance. I miss the old nfl.
My favorite part of this game was Drew Carey in his box seats looking SICK they just got blown tf out 😂
Legend has it his sickness from that night was the reason he lost so much weight
It’s all drew Carey’s fault 😂😂😂
Steelers kicking two 19 yard field goals on 4th and goal from the 1 sounds crazy nowadays
Kordell Stewart 2 touchdowns (1 rushing TD & a TD pass to Huntley)
Tomczak 2 TDs( TD pass to Huntley and another TD pass to Ward late in the fourth quarter
Huntley 3 TDs (1 rushing TD and 2 TD catches)
Browns used to be tough, then they moved and turned into the ravens
Ravens are symbols of death. It was the death of Cleveland football....
Y’all couldn’t find a competitive Browns vs Steelers game to post?
I think they've already done that in the past
No ofc not. Steelers are the leagues favorite team. Has that not been clear? When the whipped pittsburg in 2020 it was godamn near radio silence over here
You don't see stats that lopsided on Madden Rookie mode.
Drew Carey couldn't come up with anything more creative, funny or intelligent to say? One of the world's truly untalented comedians.
The Browns did do a good job of resting their offence
The start of the norm
This was a microcosm of what a damn mess the Browns have been since ‘99. You love to see it 😂
Nothing has changed since
That Drew Carey Speech Didn't Age Well At All... 25 Years Later, Still The Same Old Browns
13:04 HOW RIGHT THEY WERE!!!
so many funny moments...lets take the first 2. Drew Carrey's week as F intro at the 50 and the very first Cleveland Browns offensive play was a pick lmao
Hines Ward first TD and Joey Porter first sack...
That's crazy. First of many for both
0:50 Aged like fine wine
Wasn't this the game where the Browns got shut out unfortunately? Poor Browns 😭
can we PLEASE bring back that intro back
I watched the Browns for 43 yrs and finally I gave up. I can’t watch one of the oldest teams in the league yearly look like a joke. They are being paid to much money. Sure there was the cardiac kids, the Kozar years too but too long between.
12:34 I'm not wondering why they're throwing. I'm wondering why Hines Ward is still playing in garbage time.
he wasn’t a star yet, this was only his first game of his second season
Wait when did the browns leave Cleveland and why did they leave, I forget
In case you're sincerely asking, owner Art Modell moved the original Browns to Baltimore in 1996 but the city of Cleveland kept the rights to the Browns name and records, then a new expansion franchise came along and picked up the Browns name and just retconned it as a three season hiatus
It's about time to bury this footage & keep it buried!
Kordell Stewart... ahead of his time
Cool and interesting video
*Unrelated* We need some Steelers Jags uploads from this time period! They had some BATTLES in the old AFC Central from 95-01
If the Steelers play the Jags again in the future, this channel should upload one of those games
after all that, they lose 43-0
The team that won the Super Bowl that year is not even in that city anymore!!!
That's right. The Rams were once in Cleveland. Same with the next season when the Baltimore Ravens won it all.
@ A lot of people don’t know that the Rams were in Cleveland!!! when the Rams are in St. Louis I work for them for three seasons, four years, four years, three seasons… we had a giant library and the history of the Rams was part of it as well and it was really cool being able to go through each city. That room was just really interesting because it had all of the books that would come out that year, along with everything else that you would need to know or get stat wise and I remember being in that room a handful of times and just getting lost in all the information that was at your fingertips!!!
Listening to the ESPN MNF theme for a Sunday Night game just feels weird to me.
43-0 is crazy
All that for nothing and got their ass whupped 43 to nothing.
little did drew know he just headlined for the biggest cleveland joke yet
Holy crap, that thumbnail of the game stats.
The Browns had nothing
Da boi Slash!!!! Lol let's go!!!
Watching this after tonight. Browns just won their superbowl. 😅
And a few months later, the Browns beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh!
tip of advice when simming games. don't be bias.
infact. be slightly bias agaisnt the team you want to win.
My dad had me (a 9-year old) do his confidence pool that week. I put the max points on the Browns. Whoops.
least amount of possession time in NFL history. cleveland browns with only 12 minutes of control.
Ouch..
Sent the fans home UNhappy 😂😂😂
Browns never score
Lost my shit when they started cheering for 'First pick of the draft, Tim Couch'. LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO
The browns blue prints haven't changed 😕
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STEELERS💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤
Well hey, we beat the Steelers tonight!
Is this the worst game the Browns have played since returning? Genuine question. I legit cannot think of a worse game even during the 0-16 season.
Couch swallows!!!
What happened for the Browns to only be away for 3 Years ?
Art Modell sold the team when they were entering their Week 10 game in the 1995 season; that's why they didn't play football from 1996-1998
Go Pittsburgh 🏟🏈🇺🇸🟡⚪️⚫️⚙️🌃
How TF you only have two 1st downs a entire game 🤣
Holy smokes 😅
Pittsburgh Steelers Was Member AFC Central Division From 1970 To 1993 And Cleveland Browns Was Member AFC Central Division From 1970 To 1993 Thanks For Uploading
Even by expansion standards this browns team was horrible. They won their two games on the last play of the game (Hail Mary, FG). They were two plays away from being 0-16, that’s how horrible they were.
Three players developed staph infections running out of the tunnel
Drew is so inspiring
Shut up 😅
25 years later, 2-7 Cleveland takes down 8-2 Pittsburgh!
You mean 2-8 Cleveland takes down 8-2 Pittsburgh
💥💥 The Browns would beat the steelers in Pittsburgh in the 2nd meeting.
Drew Carey was pretty much premature in that speech, Price Is Right loser music is playing right now for the Browns.
Irony....Browns won tonight.

Real browns are in Baltimore
Shouldn’t of ever had them play Pittsburgh in week 1
Should they have played Baltimore instead?
