This is the best cover/recreation of Sandman I've ever heard! Like a 12 foot wave, it builds, builds then curls, surrounding you with beauty, power and awe.
Metallica wanted the artists' versions to be different than the originals for the Blacklist album. “We said, ‘Pick a song. Do what you want with it. If you want to play it backwards or turn it on its head, we respect and appreciate it.’ ” - Lars Ulrich I like what they did with the arrangement and video. They gave it their own spin and paid homage to the original at the end with the original kick ass riff.
It's easy to remember the drummer's name, Pau, pronounced "pow". As in, what she does to said drums.
This version of the song is not, of course, the start-to-finish blunt trauma to the face that Metallica's is, but it's a lot eerier. The song was originally written as a lullaby by James Hetfield; they interpreted it that way and absolutely demolished it. I've listened to the other five versions of the song on Blacklist, and none of them can hold a candle to this in my view. The others are covers influenced by the artists' styles. This is much more ambitious, and did they ever deliver!
Everything The Warning does is pure gold! Musical prodigies!

Metallica wanted bands to change up the songs for the Blacklist album and The Warning did exactly what they wanted. I believe Metallica said they didn’t care if bands played the songs backwards, perhaps that’s not what some hard core fans want, but if I’m a band invited to play on Metallica’s cover album you better believe I’m not doing a straight cover and those not happy can move onto something they like better. Not really hard to do, no way would I expect everyone to like it and that’s ok, but a ton do.
Been a die hard Metallica fan since 1988 and this is an amazing version of this song. The Warning just came out yesterday with an incredible song “Martirio” you’re going to love. Take care, sir.

It's like they created a whole new song, just in tribute to the original song. They nailed it. As much as I like Alessia's inclusion, I always smile big when Dany's vocals kick in...there's our Dany!
Glad you said it - I got the chills first time I heard this and still do! What an incredible reimagining of this rock classic . . . a fresh take . . haunting and powerful! Those harmonies toward the end before the heavier part were perfect (or magical like you said!) Insanely talented young ladies and Alessia Cara was a perfect blend with them. I appreciate all of their HARD WORK! Grammy Award winning artist Alessia Cara is more of a sultry soulful Pop singer/songwriter. She and The Warning share the same international agent who suggested that she collaborate with TW. So with very little time, TW jumped at the opportunity and arranged, recorded the music and vocals, and shot the video; all in less than a week!

Taking a genre-busting Classic three decades old down to it's component parts, adding harmonic vocal parts a third above an octave below and vice versa, reconstructing even the most basic element - the beat - yet retaining the essence of the original throughout?... This is an american band... isnt it.
Im not dissing them, theyre *clearly* very talented but the *style* is the worst of american popular music culture.
The first real example I reacted to was the "Ni-ah-ight".
Thats such am american thing to do and its absolutely horrendous and there are things like it all the way through the song.
This song is meant to be sung directly and in your face.
Not saying you cant modify it but the way they do it is right down contradictive.
Its also one of the worst aspects produced in music history.
Similar to Beyonces "ooOOUUUIIEEIIOOuuu" and repeat waling.
As I already said, these are good musicians but boy... they missed the mark on this one.
1) They are doing exactly what Metallica asked people do for the Blacklist album: changing things up and making the song their own. 2) Metallica selected this track to lead off the Blacklist album, so clearly they disagree with you (and it’s just adorable that you think you know better than Metallica what makes for a good rendition of one of their songs 🤣). 3) Based on the broader reaction to this track, you are going to be very lonely in your “hot take.”
They are a rock band from mexico. The whole point was for all the artists in the blacklist album to make it their own and do whatever they wanted, metallica literally said that. Thats why you have so many genres. I get you dont like this rendition of enter sandman, your opinion respect that completely. If you want to hear the the version you are talking about listen to the original.
