The car accident story when the guy told on himself in court reminds me of a friend of mine and her ex. He was trying to have her arrested for assault, and then openly admitted in court that it was because he tried to basically kidnap their son. He actually told the judge that he was trying to take his son, whom he can only have supervised visits with, home with him because he didn't like paying child support. Dude lost visitation.
Sigh, the part where Dabney told the story about parking right beside that other car in a completely empty lot, I thought to myself " if only someone could reach through the screen and slap someone through their TH-cam channel " lol.🤣🤣🤣
When someone finally turns the tables on them, they look shocked. How dare someone send collections after us for unpaid debt? Only WE are allowed to do that...
Sadly UPS in the UK did that to me for a £1000 tv that I paid £80 shipping for, and then claimed it was MY fault it arrived damaged, the tv was smashed literally in middle and it was a metal and glass tv not a modern led tv! and kept making excuses, I never got chance to take it to court due to other reasons so lost over £1000!
@@revengenerd1 UPS in the US is just as bad they dropped a $1300 jetski engine i sold and refused to pay blaming me i never got my money back and the engine was trash I never use them anymore.
The UPS story reminds me of a problem I had years ago when I ordered a BBQ replacement part that had to be imported. The first time they tried to deliver it they were requiring a $200 import fee on a $30 part. This seemed crazy so I asked to the customs paperwork. They claimed it was a $770 flamethrower. Firstly, I don't want to spend $200. Secondly, I don't want the government thinking that I'm importing flamethrowers. I refuse delivery and send it back and tell them to figure out their paperwork. The next day they try to deliver it again with the same paperwork. Again, I refuse. They repeat the same thing two more days. He next day the driver just drops off the package and leaves. A few days later I get a letter requesting payment plus another service fee. I email them and explain that I'd be happy to pay the correct amount once hey figure it out. I didn't hear back from them for over a year when I go another letter from them. This time I phoned and spoke to their collections representative. The representative old me that they had already paid the government the import duties and they had no method to claim them back and had no way to determine the correct fees. They suggested I just reimburse them and attempt to file a claim with customs. I laughed at them, pointed out that I have documentation to prove I refused delivery and suggested they start listening to their customers. It was a small victory.
Closest I had for that was ordering a £400 item and panicking on the potential customs costs, the driver handed it to me without asking, but a year later the courier company demanded payment. I wasn't sure what to do and also the item was returned anyway as it was faulty after all that.
the scammer in the first story reminds me of a guy that run over my grandma while she was on a bike... well more he pushed her. She was in a lot of pain but mr was in a hurry and he had important business so he told her she wasnt injured, she'd be fine and left her his card and drove off. When she had to go to the er and therefore press charges he claimed that she was fine and that he saw her bike away and there was no way she was injured enough to need to go to the er... what he didnt realise is that her bike was so damaged there was no way she could have biked away.. he got charged for running away and for non assitance to an endangered person because he left a 75yo woman in the middle of nowhere, not even knowing if she had a phone... she had a broken arm, bruised ribs, busted knee and a concussion.. luckily she had not forgotten her phone for once and was able to call my mother or else who knows what would have happened.. Oh and the sweetest part is because he was responsible for the accident and ran he had to pay for whatever fees wasnt paid by social security, pay her wages (she was still working) and had he not ran away this could have been concidered a work incident for her and the social security would have had to pay all this..
Hijacking this comment to tell my own emberassing car ding story. I wanted to open the passenger car door, in the good mood that I was, I opened it quite swiftly... ... and banged it HARD against a really small metal fence thingy that was about 30cm off the ground. The car I did that too? My bf's (at that time, now ex) car, that he loved, while I stepped into that car for maybe the 3rd or 4th time. We parked there together. I opened that door like an hour before that and DIDN'T ding the door. I REMEMBERED the fence like 5mins prior to that. The only good thing was that the metal hit exactly where the plastic bumper stripe was on the door, so the damage was minimal, but I felt so stupid and my ex was so mad. Breakup was like 9 months later due to unrelated stuff lol.
Fun Fact, in the UK once the bailiff starts making a list of goods, that actually increases the amount they have to pay to stop the removal. So it would be like; Pay £100 or we start listing goods. > Start listing goods The price is now £120.
I wish the first story happened in one of those court shows just so I can here the judge talk about that scamming idiot in front of a crowd and whoever is watching. The embarrassment on that scammer would be extra delicious.
@@mbkaj yeah I dont know what country OP is in but there's a very important part of the trial called discovery where you both present evidence so there's no surprises in the actual court.
Other lawyer was probably just shit and didn't request the document. Since it was only the contract that would need to be brought up, very easy for a shitty lawyer out to scam people to not realise that its listed and then not request it. Discovery isn't "Here's a copy of everything we have" its more a "Here's a list of what we have and plan to use, would you like to see any of it?". Some documents a copy cannot be made and as such you organise to see it in person while monitored.
@@SendarSlayer See this scenario in the lawyer subreddits on how the other lawyer screws up and don't do this. Seen it personally once when they made me sit in on cases as part of a class in university. Not a lawyer, but had to take classes as a requirement.
And ALWAYS take photos!! Everyone (almost) has a smartphone. Use it! Damage, environment and road signs, all vehicles involved from all angles, even the undamaged parts, licence tags, go to town. Photos are free and it can save your butt later! You don't want a small fender bender to miraculously transform into a full car rebuild 3 days later!
I don't know how it works in USA but most of the time here where I live police won't even bother to come at the scene unless someone is hurt or aggressive. Usually it's best just to take plenty of pictures, write a document on scene explaining the accident and get both parties signature on it.
Like with @Varma Krapula, where I live (not the US) the cops only come if someone is injured enough to go to the hospital (and probably also if someone at the scene is dangerously aggressive). We just need to take pictures of everything and exchange information with the other people involved. BUT it is important and wise to report the accident immediately to our insurance company and to go and make a report at the accident reporting centre (the police). I think these reporting systems might now be possible online? (I haven't owned a car in a while, and it was a good long while before that since I was in an accident (I was rear-ended at a stop light so totally not my fault), but I think someone told me we can report online now. Either way, it is important to make a report of what happened with the insurance and the officials. Bonus: the scammers generally fail to make these reports and that tends to count against them if/when they try to scam for more money.
I don't get why big companies think they are above paying court orders. Surely, when you have that many resources, just paying the person you have wronged, as proven in the highest court in the land, then you can just pay up.
There's a series of videos of bailiffs called "Can't Pay Well Take It Away" In one of the episodes, they come to take money from a major football club. Hillarious to watch.
@@theblitz9 I've actually watched it. There's another episode where Royal Mail headquarters gets a visit too for not paying 10k to a small business owner.
@@theblitz9 One of my favorite shows. Also "Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords", that one is great and features high court enforcement as well. Yeah, it seems ridiculous, though. Especially for a huge company like UPS, the employees resisting the order are protecting money that isn't even their own. Worst case: you pay the order, corporate bosses get all red-faced and ask why you paid, you say "they literally had a court judgment, it's the law"
Late to this, but I once read if you want a 'fragile' package to get somewhere safely, it should be able to survive being dropped out a second storey window. I use that advice.
Always use a positive when trying to avoid an action. “I will open my door carefully.” Otherwise you’re just focusing on the action, and that’s all you’ll see. I know that sounds goofy but it works for me.
The car bump reminds me of the time a couple in a small car tried to 'break check' us when we were in a half ton truck! We knew something was up because they would slow down/speed up put on the breaks randomly and the passenger would look over her shoulder and nod at the driver. Watch for these morons who will try insurance fraud by making it look like you caused an accident!
I remember watching a TV show where they follow bailliffs. The bailliffs had to go to Barclays bank to clamin money for lawyers who won cases in regards to the PPI scandal. The bailliffs had gone not to one of the banks, but rather the main office building in the UK. Barclays still wouldn't pay up so the Bailliffs started listing property which they will take. Computers, desks, chairs etc. In the end a dozen or so high ranked staff members started paying the bailliffs off their own personal credit cards. The amount came to a few hundred thousand pounds.
In regards to Story 1, my brother once got into a minor fender bender. He was going 5 mph and rear-ended the other person because he had a sneezing fit. Even the cop who responded to the call considered it the literal definition of an accident. Well, the woman tried to make our insurance pay for previous damage to the car, such as the ski rack ON TOP OF HER CAR! Obviously, that didn’t fly, and our insurance paid out for only the damage my brother caused. In regards to Story 2 (or Story 3, if you count rSlash’s own story as being Story 2), I’ve known FedEx to manhandle items marked as fragile, resulting in damage, but rarely from UPS; the recent story of hundreds of FedEx packages being tossed into a ravine because the delivery driver was “going through personal issues at the time” (seriously, what a lame excuse) particularly comes to mind. On a personal note, I have bought valuable statues of video game characters from UK/Hong Kong-based First4Figures, and FedEx is the company they contract with to ship them. My statues weren’t damaged, but I’ve seen photos of fellow customers (we’re all part of a Facebook group) who were not so lucky. Usually, UPS is the better shipping company, from what I’ve heard, so it’s a bit surprising to see this.
I completely relate to rslash thinking about not doing a thing, but somehow doing it anyway. I was once riding my bike and I saw a perfectly avoidable light pole, and my brain just went "man, it would suck if we smacked into that." So I guess my motor functions decided to commit and I just. Rode into a fucking light pole. Wasn't even going fast, had complete control on a paved flat road, but. My body decided this was happening today.
This is actually because we humans can't think in negative. It is impossible for us to imagine an action we won't do. Like "don't drop the glass of water". All we will see in our heads is us dropping the glass.
Thanks, I now have a mental image standing around watching a guy on a bike starring at a pole and slowly gliding into it, making zero attempt to avoid it for no apparent reason. I've never experienced this, but since we're laughing at embarrassing things here's one I did, after my family was done eating I went to slide out of the booth, however my butt didn't feel the edge of it, so I slid right out onto the floor, I wasn't hurt but stunned for a second or two before I tried to get up.
I've never had this happen to me that I can recall, and I am very confused at how apparently common it is for people to just like, lose control of their body like this.
In the first story, seems like since that guy was so sketchy he might have intentionally hit the OP. He probably thought that because the OP is young, he would be an easy target to lie to for a lot of money.
If I don't have enough space to comfortably open my car door and get in, I always put my hand over the out-most point on my door to avoid dinging the other guy's door.
Dabney, I really hope you confessing this cringe moment to millions of internet strangers helps you deal with it better in future. I know sometimes talking about cringy moments I've had gets them out of my brain so it stops replaying them over and over
that last story: so damn satisfying, UPS is such a garbage delivery service, at least in my country. every single time i've ordered from them they have refused to deliver it to my apartment building, every single time they say "we couldn't deliver it so we delivered it to this kiosk on the other side of town", i'm literally on the bottom floor sitting next to the window, they never even drove by. absolutely useless bastard, i never use them when it can be avoided, i'd rather pay double the delivery fee to another company then pay these useless bastards.
For many, many companies, it's not. They pay or refund or just generally bend over backwards to keep in your good books. It's much appreciated when it's done, and I try not to abuse it when I find a company willing to do that. They'll sometimes suck it up and make nice even if it's your fault, which I've always found kinda sad. My parents always taught me to pay for anything I break but I've broken a few things in stores and had them refuse to let me pay for it. I only manage it if I sneak the product through the checkout! Weird, I know... but it makes me feel better and sometimes I can fix the broken item so it's all good.
Happened to me when I was by myself at the far and mostly empty side of a store's parking lot while waiting for a text to pick up my family member who went in to grab a few items. Just annoyed me that people don't turn off their herding instinct to consider what they're doing, why, and what can be done better so I just moved away to reestablish my bubble space I was enjoying.
As a female, especially when driving alone, this is a serious 'take note of all surroundings & be aware' situation. Easiest way to corner someone is when they're in a closed space & not an open space, with more open space all around them in every direction.
Honestly UPS is the most shit company. I remember my mother buying a brand new surround sound system & it was shipped by UPS. Now we don't live in the best neighborhood but it's not the worst either. On the day our package was supposed to arrive we get a knock on our door. A woman asks if we ordered a surround sound system & I looked at her confused & said yes. She said it was delivered to HER house TWO blocks away. The street names are nothing alike. Let's say our street is called Eagle Ave, they delivered it to Mill Ave. I walk over with this woman to her house to pick up the box. She tells me she has no numbers on her home indicating what the house number even is. Furthermore the people who sent the system didn't even put it in a brown box. It was sent in the store packaging with pictures of the surround sound ON IT. God forbid this lady wasn't a nice person she could've just hauled it into her home & UPS wouldn't have done jack shit about it. They most likely would've tried to blame US if it were stolen when THEY delivered it to the wrong house. Yea, we don't use UPS anymore & we try not to order from companies that use them.
As someone who wakes up early every day I was so used to watching your videos before work but lately they’ve been releasing an hour later which I understand may be better for your schedule I usually have to wait until after work to watch I’m always waiting in anticipation and it makes the videos all the better when I do get to watch them I love your content it feels a lot more personal and like the stories have feeling which is great keep it up!
They are an hour later because the time fell back by one hour last fall because of standard time starting in most of the United States. On March 13 the videos will start coming an hour later again because most of United States will jump one hour forward for Daylight Savings Time.
@@itachiswill5263 no I’m in Saskatchewan we don’t observe daylight savings I used to watch them around 7am cst and now they appear to be coming out around 8am cst
You forget that when the Sheriff and bailiff arrives at the door to execute that order, they already owe the fees for that service, and also that already there are auction fees and storage fees tacked on in preemption of this being done, so now the original sum is more than doubled that they are there to collect, and they will not leave till, in their eyes, either they have goods that will cover the cost when they are auctioned off (which often is for less than 10% of the original cost at these auctions, no reserve), but if the auction does not gain enough to settle they will return, with yet another set of fees, and take more to settle this. Plenty of shady people in this line, and often they will deliberately reduce the value ( chairs missing an arm, desk with no drawers or keys, computer with missing case parts, no leads, no keyboard mouse or hard drive) for stuff they want themselves, and get for either a tiny price or for free.
13:24 I have a story about delivery companies... First off, I have a great Dane mastiff dog. He's a year old and over 160 pounds. And he's terrifying. He is a giant slobber monster with a giant scar on his leg (from a snake bite). He's also accompanied by a tiny 6-week old heeler puppy that isn't tall enough to jump on the couch. And this delivery guy has a package in his hand, looks at my great dane in the yard, and TEASES him with it. He teases my dog (who wants to bite his arm off because this guy is LEANING OVER THE FENCE), runs up and down the fence line, then THROWS the package, which was an expensive peice of technology. While the dog is distracted with tearing apart the package and I'm running out there in my too-small shirt and sweatpants, the delivery guy books it. Great times...
I felt this one in my entire being. Also, I chuckled a bit because most people who know me know I'm quirky, and that's OK because all of my friends are too.
the car accident story: This is EXACTLY why you have insurance. Literally this soooo much hassle that could have been avoided if you didn't try to cut corners.
I had someone try to scam me once when they hit my car. They started screaming about whiplash, suing me, etc., etc. I said: two problems i) we're in Canada that whole 'suing thing' doesn't really work like that here; she's been watching too much American TV, and ii) I have insurance, here's the information have fun dealing with their assessors and legal people - I pay premiums so that they can deal with people like her. I didn't say iii) if someone is crying whiplash at the scene then they almost certainly don't have whiplash (you usually don't feel it until the next day). I figured the insurance people would have seen that scam before and there was no need for me to educate the person trying to scam me. I also went straight away and made an accident report with the police. (where I live they only come to the scene if someone is injured enough to go to the hospital). I never heard from the woman again. Either someone talked her out of her scam or she found out from the insurance people. My car had no real damage to it so I didn't even file a claim.
I once had a drunk driver hit and run me at a stoplight at 3am. I was the only other car on the road. Guy hit me so hard my glasses flew off and landed in the back seat, so I couldn’t see to get off the road. I ended up having to go to the hospital because I have a history of severe head trauma. They never caught the guy to my knowledge
“Just imagine the smile on my face when my lawyer shows printouts of the text messages and the we all want good food” These sudden commercial breaks are amusing me more than they should
Story of my life, Rslash. Things like that happen to me all the time. I know about a crack in a sidewalk, keep in mind it's there, but still trip on it and nearly fall, but don't. I'm klutzy as hell. No matter how hard I try, it feels like nothing can stop it...
it's actually hilarious that you dinged the car. Our brains work very interesting, so whenever you don't want to do/think of something, you brain doesn't process the don't part. You have to think of an action to avoid something like that. Like be careful/cautious of the other car. This is also great for teaching children. If they are doing something negative, it is good to let them know that they should do something ELSE instead to avoid that behaviour for example. Instead of... don't step on Emma's art work on the floor, say please be careful around the artwork so we don't step on it. :) Positive reinforcement! This works great with talking to anyone imo.
Depending on the consequences, I allow my kids to take the action and be annoyed that the consequences happened. Then I ask them what they learned. Example: My Driver's Permit Teenager backed up to get in the road and accidentally side swiped our good car (my fault because I wasn't paying attention to her actions and she's still inexperienced....damage is maybe a few scratches). I instructed her to move forward while I controlled the steering wheel to prevent further damage. She re-did the maneuver and safely got out. My response AFTER we arrived at our destination on time: "What did you learn?" (She gave incorrect response but I told her to check her mirrors. I'll remind her later today.) It's the second car she hit while learning. The first one was also parked so I showed her how to handle it properly (didn't call police....just took lots of pics, left our insurance information, and my personal phone number). I remind her all the time that while I may panic, she is in control. I want her to work through my panicking now and make all the driving mistakes she can now (within reason) so that when things happen while solo driving (or a stupid passenger is just screaming at you due to what they perceive as a dangerous maneuver but isn't....long story...I refuse to drive with that passenger), she has a developed instinct to remain in complete control with confidence. Also to not panic and properly respond when she does cause an accident. I didn't get any of those experiences and had very little support on what to do when they happened to me. I was lucky that drivers (and one police officer) around me were patient enough to explain some things to me every time something happened whether it was my fault or not.
Long Story if interested: There I was, in a carpool (3 generations of family members, kids were 3-8...I'm "JJ", Grandma is in seat just behind Driver and Shot Gun, Hubby is in Shot Gun seat) driving a van from Florida to New York, every adult taking turns. It's my turn, dark outside, traffic is heavy but moving, and I'm zoned in and focused heavily on the driving task, actively avoiding distractions. I got the car on the highway (just after taking over driving) and am looking for a rhythm so I can relax a bit. The right lane is going 20 under the speed limit, the center lane 10 under, the left is consistently going faster than the center. I get us to the center and I'm trying to get to the left. The cars in my lane are speeding up, slowing down, speeding up, slowing down with about 10 mph upper and lower range and I'm trying to find a consistent speed to get out but not have to break too hard and too often. Had a good buffer in front of me for my take off and FINALLY found an opening to safely merge into the outermost left lane that I was confident enough to take. I press the gas, speed up, knowing the truck in front was breaking but I had enough safe distance to either go faster or safely slow down without hitting it. I was 80% confident my left blindspot was clear and I could move over safely without slowing the approaching left lane car too much. Maneuver and actions in progress. G-ma: (Yelling in quick succession) "JJ! JJ! JJ! JJ! JJ! JJ! JJ!" 5-10 Second Timeline Events (TE): ~G-ma does this shouting while I remain calm, observe, look for what she's trying to communicate, and re-think all my safety thoughts and ultimately abandon my maneuver in favor of a hard but safe slow down.~ Me (during TE): (I'm thinking "What's going on? Is there a driver in my blindspot?") ~I try to speak through shouting~ "What? What do you see? What's wrong?" ~After TE, we're slowed down, I'm stuck behind a slow truck in the center lane calming down but highly annoyed at the missed opportunity.~ Me: "What was wrong? Why were you shouting like that?" G-ma: "Didn't you see the truck in front of you? It was slowing down." (I don't remember the exact dialogue after this so I'll summarize.) Basically I explained I knew it was there and I was trying to get around it. Her shouting did not provide me any information and could have caused an accident. Hubby took her side because he couldn't read my mind to know my intentions, only my actions. We got off the next exit. He and I loudly argued semi-privately in the gas station. H: If it was safe, why didn't you do the maneuver? Me: Because your mother was shouting at me and I didn't want to risk hitting someone I might have missed seeing in my blindspot! She communicated NOTHING to me. JJ! JJ! JJ! tells me absolutely nothing about what's going on H: I saw my life flash before my eyes. You almost hit that truck. More discussion followed and ended without resolution and he took the wheel for the rest of the distance to our destination. According to their actions and attitude, I'M the useless one who couldn't contribute because I'm supposedly incapable of driving and I have never received an apology. My teenage daughter remembers it from 10 years ago and is the only one to take my side when she was old enough to understand what exactly happened. Moral of This Story for any Vehicle Passenger: DO NOT YELL AT THE DRIVER FOR ANY REASON! ESPECIALLY NOT THE DRIVER'S NAME OR SPECIFIC ACTIONS YOU DESIRE OF THE DRIVER! Only exception I can see is if you truly don't trust the driver. Calmly ask the driver to safely pull over and stop. If the driver does not comply, slowly escalate to as little yelling as possible for the least amount of time as possible. If the driver still does not comply, calmly let the driver know you're calling 911 and get the police involved (then do so unless the driver stops to let you out).
It's true. I visit schools in the region for enrichment activities. Whenever the teachers send students to help me carry in supplies, I try to avoid saying 'don't drop this' because, as you noted, or brains ignore the don't. Instead I try to say something like 'please carry this securely using both hands'. So far, so good.
Why would anyone think they could get away with screwing somebody charging them four times the the actual invoice and then claim that they never paid to begin with especially when they had the contract in hand with his signature on it saying it was paid and what's worse in his last statement he actually admit to the lie that he didn't get his money
On that second one, UPS SUCKS. They left a power supply I ordered in a PUDDLE when the rest of the porch was completely dry. They also don't like to stay for things you need to sign for. So they'll ring up to the elderly man on the third floor of our building, then immediately turn around and leave instead of waiting for him to come down the stairs. When I tried to complain, they said I can't complain on someone else's behalf because I don't have the tracking number.
Hmmmmmm but you caaaaaaan lol. I've had a similar issue with Microsoft they used FED EX and I bought an 80 dollar controller from them...it sat in their warehouse for A WEEK and I had to fight for it...it came to me broken the headphone jack was loose. After 3 days of me bitching I finally got a super visor and I got it taken care of. Sometimes the claws gotta come out and this stubborn woman got her cash back.
It's so incredibly soothing to hear that I'm not the only one who has a faulty "enable complete moron mode" switch that spuriously triggers once in a while LMAO. Thanks for the story! I couldn't stop laughing about your inner yelling at your brain. :D
First story: I bet both lawers are in reddit, OP's lawyer in the askreddit of your OBJECTION moment and this moron's lawyer in the askreddit of your client prooving guilt in court.
if he was smart, he'd just request 5 grand up front, considering this is what he's done for over 12 1-star moments. Poor OP doesn't know that money won in court is taxed, not state income tax but Court Compensation Tax (which is actually higher than income supplemental taxes).
@rSlash I was sitting next to my husband as I was listening to your post this morning. I had on my airpods and he couldn't see them. We were both sitting quietly until you told your story about dinging the car next to you in an otherwise empty parking lot. I literally laughed out loud making my husband look at me like wtf. He asked if I was ok. 🤣 When he realized I wasn't completely off my rocker we listened to the story together and both laughed. I think it was more for the fact that it sounds like something I would do. Thank you for such GREAT posts. I never miss an upload.
My dad took us kids to a country club to play golf with his pickup and trailer attached as we were in town doing Supply runs. We couldn't find a parking spot for both him and his trailer finally we did next to this silver car and had parked perfectly not a scratch and as we were about to walk towards the building this guy at the tee-off area screams you hit my car! Which we didn't it was just the sound of my dad's trailer clanking around and made it sound like something was getting scratched. My dad and him fought and argued about it for a minute and finally he went back to his group. We still golf that day, dam polo shirts.
Hey Dabney, that was me in the parking lot in Connecticut 8 years ago... the damage was $2,403... will that be cash or e-transfer? Wait, did I say, $2,403... no, it was $10,000, yeah, $10,000, that's it. ;-)
Stupid car stories: last year after a very long day of work my friend insisted we drive back that very same night, because he wanted to get home to his girl. I said I was really tired and not fit to drive, and he said he'd do it, just let him get a feel for my car in the parking lot. Well, he got in, checked the mirrors, adjusted the seat, made sure everything was in order like a good boy, and immediately started backing up at full speed until he hit the single car in the whole lot- the security guard's car. Dude didn't earn a penny for that job because it all went to car repairs. And I don't let people drive my car anymore.
So thankfully for the daily uploads, been very sick the past few days. This has been one of the few things I’ve been able to look forward too, thank you RSLASH!
Yay Connecticut ❤️ I believe I know exactly which parking lot you spoke of! Our coastline is pretty tiny lol! As for your story...🤣🤣 I can identify with having a " Why? Why did I do that?" moment...or two🤦♀️
My husband and my pet peeve is when the freaking parking lot is empty and some jackhole parks right next to us. And of course they park kinda extra close to us with 2 ft on the other side. We have to hold each other back from losing it. It’s not like we are parking right close to the entrance so why? Why?
My Hypothesis: Human Herding Instinct. It happens when we let our body take over a task while we mentally zone on something unrelated to the task at hand.
If UPS had to pay back damages for every damaged product they delivered they'd have to shut down. If ya'll get PO'd by the delivery drivers manhandling your packages, never go into one of the Warehouses. THose people dont give a sh*t about your stuff, and UPS will never do anything about it because then they'd have to admit there was a problem. And we all know big businesses like this won't admit their problems anywhere people could hear them because it costs less to ignore them.
My ex works for a medical supply warehouse and he used to tell me that, out of all the shipping companies they worked with, UPS was the worst. They would get tons of stuff wrong on their end and blame the warehouse workers for shoddy packaging and labeling. Luckily, the warehouse makes the employees make records of what they package and label. Otherwise, the UPS complaints would have gotten tons of people fired for no reason.
about 2010 I had a £1000 tv a month old in its original packaging AND pillows and a duvet inside for extra strength arrive SPLIT down the middle, in a bin bag and the pillows and duvet missing, they refused a payout stating one I must of packaged it badly, two it was MY responsibility to ensure it arrived safetly, and three due to that there was no method to reimburse me for damage to which I went (so what is insurance then) and they hung up on me!
@Revenge Nerd Why pay them to transportit if it's YOUR responsibility to make sure it arrives safely? Might as well get your own truck to transport it instead of paying UPS.
In school I had friends who worked at UPS. They told stories of intentionally trying to damage electronic devices going through their service. Throwing them, dropping them, even running them over with the package trains.
10:00 - In R Slash's defense, there is a "herding instinct" (term I found online...feel free to use other terms that I can't think of) engrained in humans, especially when we're in mental "Autopilot Mode". The context this instinct I found is described when driving on the highway with cruise control and others around you have theirs turned off. They tend to gradually match your speed when move to pass them causing you to choose to slow back down, hang out in their blind spot, or speed faster than you intended just to break past them. Apply this instinct to an empty parking lot. The driver in "Autopilot" will park near or next to another vehicle without a second thought. The two vehicle owners arriving at the same time is just a coincidence but dinging the car is due to over compensation caused by the nervous, "Don't mess up" feeling. The first and last events were caused because they were all in the head.
No matter how tiny the damage ALWAYS take pictures as proof (along with the license plate) EDIT: Brent also admitted in front of a judge he lied, under oath....................
In the UK you can't force County Court Sheriffs/Bailiffs out of your property when they are enacting a court writ of property seizure/getting a payment on a fine/enforcing a court order. To even try will mean they will find themselves in jail awaiting to go in front of a judge. If you call the police on them, the police will side with the County Court Sheriff's/Bailiff's. You either pay up or allow them to seize property to be sold to pay the fine/court order. There are no other options, when they turn up and your name or company name is on their documents.
Even more so when it is a company that owes the money. If it is a private individual they are not allowed to force their way in. Can enter only if they find an open door. With a company, they can smash the door down if needed.
@@songohan3321 Yep. That happens sometimes. But, he would have had to pay an increased rate because they had called the removers and started the inventory.
UPS doing what happened does not surprise me in the least. Working in a medical text warehouse the boxes are almost always smashed and destroyed. Then, if someone tries to refuse anything UPS will activly try and turn it back on us. The stories I've hear from former employees are not the greatest either. I heard stories of people playing baseball with the packages and what does UPS do, they end up giving bonuses and raises to those employees.
On the second story- I worked for UPS for about 6 months. We do not give a singular heck about your package. There have been multiple times where boxes were crushed entirely and they were still shipped out. Many, many packages were also flat out thrown into the truck instead of packed properly, to the point where I’ve witnessed other packers throw them into the truck like they were pitchers at batting cages)
The UPS story, basically 10 years ago I sent a plasma tv I owned for a month that only had a few hours usage as I had to move with short notice, I put it back in its original packaging AND added a double duvet/quilt (I always get the two mixed up) multiple thick pillows, the package still closed but required a lot of tape. I paid 10x the standard cost to get the premium service as one the basic doesn't cover televisions and also I wanted to make sure it arrived ok, when it arrived the packaging was BENT in half and the whole thing had bin bags over it, they dumped it and didn't even let me sign for it and the tv was SHATTERED, so 2 layers of glass, metal frame and the only way for the damage to occur would be drive over with forklift, I went straight to the customer service and was outright denied a refund stating first, "go back to the seller you bought it from as they must of sent you a broken item" I said "NO, I sent it to myself as I moved house" then they said "well you must of packaged it badly" I said "NO, it was in its original box AND with added protection with pillows and a duvet" then they said "well its YOUR responsibility to get it to arrive safely, not ours" I said "Then what is the purpose of insurance" Basically at this point they told me to take them to court and slammed phone down on me. Sadly no positive end to story I was illegally evicted a few weeks later from my dodgy landlord whom was doing a con, didn't let me pay rent then changed locks and kept all my possessions stating I left nothing there but junk and he was suing me, the useless cops told me it was my own fault for not paying (and typical cops when I said it was a criminal offense they huffed at me and claimed it was civil and if I didn't back down I would be arrested!) I lost a £1000 tv and £80 in shipping! AND had the dodgy landlord threaten me with "sending round the boys" despite owing me cash.
UPS driver kept my package and marked it as delivered. I was pissed and put in a claim with UPS. A month later they send me a letter stating that they believe the package was properly delivered. Thankfully the seller reshipped the items anyways.
Had something a bit similar to that happen to me. Here in Brazil there's kinda of a monopoly of Correios (think like USPS had a monopoly of 99% of all deliveries in US). I bought a used game online, and they marked as "receiver not present" three times; I know very well that was bs because both me and my grandma were at home the times they marked as nobody here, and the delivery driver didn't even appeared. I had to go to the agency near my house, just to have the attendant made up a bunch of bs requirements just to not let me get my package; They finally delivered the fourth time, but that combined with the fact they have a bunch of bs charges if you get something internationally, and even charge taxes for a higher price than declared by the sender in those same cases pisses me off.
As someone who works in a mailroom I wouldn't ship via UPS just from how banged up some of the boxes I get from them are. If you want something undamaged it best have some sort of protective casing and/or packaging to reinforce it like crazy.

when parked next to other cars, i always open my doors with my hands on the edge of the door, so that if i open it too far, my hand touches the other car instead of the door, because of a fear of dinging other cars XD
I know all about brains deactivating in the moment. I was once holding my phone at the sink listening to something (probably r/) and I spaced out at the mirror, looked down at my phone, and turned on the water, soaking my phone. Like... Why brain? What went through my head in that moment that said "must wash phone." I knew where it was. I wasn't "washing my hands and forgot I was holding it." I knew the phone was in my hand. I knew it was in the sink, and still, my hands chose to turn the water on blast for 2 seconds before my brain rebooted.

That last story was heart-wrenching. I feel sorry for the OP. At least he got his revenge against UPS
75, still biking on roads and still working? Your grandma's a badass!
If you think the car ding is the most embarrassing thing you've done, then you're fine.
He's mighty fine even.
Everyone can understand their own embarrassing ding story when driving. I admitted that I accidentally dinged a few times.
I strongly believe that the evil part of his subconscious decided to really do him dirty that time.
Fun Fact, in the UK once the bailiff starts making a list of goods, that actually increases the amount they have to pay to stop the removal.
So it would be like;
Pay £100 or we start listing goods.
> Start listing goods
The price is now £120.

Always call the cops. Doesn't matter how minor the accident may seem. People are scumbags!
Sorry

Yeah, it seems ridiculous, though. Especially for a huge company like UPS, the employees resisting the order are protecting money that isn't even their own. Worst case: you pay the order, corporate bosses get all red-faced and ask why you paid, you say "they literally had a court judgment, it's the law"
As a former UPS Warehouse packer I’ll tell you this there is no such thing as fragile we throw boxes over each other to get it in there
Yeah, I worked UPS too and about 20 minutes in you stop caring about fragile cause you aren’t being paid enough to care
Late to this, but I once read if you want a 'fragile' package to get somewhere safely, it should be able to survive being dropped out a second storey window.

This works amazingly for young children too. Like saying "please walk" instead of "don't run".

My guess that the $2.4k was also 4x as much as the damage was actually worth knowing his MO.
Maybe, but door repair and paintwork can get expensive real quick. A couple of grand doesn't sound out of the ordinary to me.
Second story: I first thought "take them down", but when I heard they ignored court orders and OP's mother died I thought "destroy them, no mercy".
@@Ikajo ?? I have never had that happen to me mate.
If I don't have enough space to comfortably open my car door and get in, I always put my hand over the out-most point on my door to avoid dinging the other guy's door.

your story with the parking lot sounds like a self fulfilling prophecy 🤣
Story 2: If the product arrived damaged, just give a refund. It shouldn’t be that hard
Dude. Your story about parking next to someone....I swear you just described how people have to park next to you in an empty parking lot.

Lmao! That last one! I can just imagine the bailiff like, okay fine, this potted plant is coming with me!

I have a story about delivery companies...
I feel like whenever you try and tell yourself "Be normal." Is when things always go wrong.
Cringe is just proof that you have learned and become a better person.
“Just imagine the smile on my face when my lawyer shows printouts of the text messages and the we all want good food”
These sudden commercial breaks are amusing me more than they should
Story of my life, Rslash.
Long Story if interested:
There I was, in a carpool (3 generations of family members, kids were 3-8...I'm "JJ", Grandma is in seat just behind Driver and Shot Gun, Hubby is in Shot Gun seat) driving a van from Florida to New York, every adult taking turns.
JJ! JJ! JJ! JJ! JJ! JJ!"
5-10 Second Timeline Events (TE): ~G-ma does this shouting while I remain calm, observe, look for what she's trying to communicate, and re-think all my safety thoughts and ultimately abandon my maneuver in favor of a hard but safe slow down.~
Me (during TE): (I'm thinking "What's going on? Is there a driver in my blindspot?") ~I try to speak through shouting~ "What? What do you see? What's wrong?"
~After TE, we're slowed down, I'm stuck behind a slow truck in the center lane calming down but highly annoyed at the missed opportunity.~
Me: "What was wrong? Why were you shouting like that?"
G-ma: "Didn't you see the truck in front of you? It was slowing down."
(I don't remember the exact dialogue after this so I'll summarize.)
Basically I explained I knew it was there and I was trying to get around it.
JJ! JJ! JJ! tells me absolutely nothing about what's going on
H: I saw my life flash before my eyes.
As someone who lives what I consider to be a pyrrhic lifestyle, I commend the OP of the first post. Headaches are priceless
Wish I had the energy and impudence scammers seem to have.
And audacity 😂
@@thehealedwoman that's the word I've been looking for. Completely left my head.
As someone who works for UPS, I’m here for that last story. Absolutely hilarious.
UPS is the worst shipping company ever, if I ever have a choice I will never use them
First story: I bet both lawers are in reddit, OP's lawyer in the askreddit of your OBJECTION moment and this moron's lawyer in the askreddit of your client prooving guilt in court.
if he was smart, he'd just request 5 grand up front, considering this is what he's done for over 12 1-star moments.
Poor OP doesn't know that money won in court is taxed, not state income tax but Court Compensation Tax (which is actually higher than income supplemental taxes).
You never think you’ll ever need an attorney till you need an attorney.
Moral of the story: Don't scam anyone
Brent should quit while he was ahead. Now he has nothing. Hope he loses his business too
14:05 This guy went all John Wick on UPS! Lol!
As for the synchronous car approach, I would have just pretended my shoe came untied or something
Yay Connecticut ❤️
I believe I know exactly which parking lot you spoke of! Our coastline is pretty tiny lol!
As for your story...🤣🤣
I can identify with having a " Why? Why did I do that?" moment...or two🤦♀️
My husband and my pet peeve is when the freaking parking lot is empty and some jackhole parks right next to us. And of course they park kinda extra close to us with 2 ft on the other side. We have to hold each other back from losing it. It’s not like we are parking right close to the entrance so why? Why?
My Hypothesis: Human Herding Instinct. It happens when we let our body take over a task while we mentally zone on something unrelated to the task at hand.
The ballif one is great because the moment they start the removal process the fees jump. Even if they them agree to pay.
Yea... As a loader for UPS, I can 100% attest to the fact that they probably smashed it. It's a bit of a joke honestly
about 2010 I had a £1000 tv a month old in its original packaging AND pillows and a duvet inside for extra strength arrive SPLIT down the middle, in a bin bag and the pillows and duvet missing, they refused a payout stating one I must of packaged it badly, two it was MY responsibility to ensure it arrived safetly, and three due to that there was no method to reimburse me for damage to which I went (so what is insurance then) and they hung up on me!
9:30 reminds me of the Bob's Burgers episode where Tina got behind the wheel of an empty parking lot with one car and somehow hit that one car.
UPS is *the worst*. Seriously, if UPS is your only delivery option, walk it to the destination if you have to. They. Are. The. WORST.
They're better than using the USPS for package delivery at least. From my experience FedEx is legitimately the best option of the three.
Last Story - I bet a fiver that a lot of vacancies opened up due to a lot of idiots getting sacked for that stunt.
An rslash double feature as a wake up call? Oh, Rslash, you shouldn't have!
I love the UPS story. They're just the worst at their job. Everything arrives broken *if* it's even mine. Half the time it's a wrong delivery.
Didn't OP in the story said that the financial guy paid out of his own pocket to stop the seizure of the property?
@@songohan3321 Yep. That happens sometimes. But, he would have had to pay an increased rate because they had called the removers and started the inventory.
First OP should have followed up with that shop himself and made sure he wasn't getting scammed.
Leftover chicken wings, a new RSlash video before I have to get ready for work... This is the life :)
We all have those moments where eighter our brain or our mouth betrayed us at the stupidest moment 😂
Man I would have refused the personal payment and just stuck with the bailiff seizing their property LMAO
On the second story-
I worked for UPS for about 6 months.
I can just imagine how the last story went down, because I've watched enough Call The Bailiffs episodes on TH-cam! Hilarious.
Omggg lmfao I laughed so hard listening to your story about hitting the car next to you🤣🤣🤣
That was some great UPS revenge!
I got secondhand embarrassment from your personal story. Sounds like something I'd do. So you're not alone, Dabney!! xD
How funny would it be to have some guy listening to RSlash’s beach story and think wtf that was me man!
Rslash’s editor must have had a field day with this episode because of the first story.
UPS driver kept my package and marked it as delivered. I was pissed and put in a claim with UPS. A month later they send me a letter stating that they believe the package was properly delivered. Thankfully the seller reshipped the items anyways.
Had something a bit similar to that happen to me. Here in Brazil there's kinda of a monopoly of Correios (think like USPS had a monopoly of 99% of all deliveries in US). I bought a used game online, and they marked as "receiver not present" three times;
I know very well that was bs because both me and my grandma were at home the times they marked as nobody here, and the delivery driver didn't even appeared. I had to go to the agency near my house, just to have the attendant made up a bunch of bs requirements just to not let me get my package;
They finally delivered the fourth time, but that combined with the fact they have a bunch of bs charges if you get something internationally, and even charge taxes for a higher price than declared by the sender in those same cases pisses me off.
As someone who works in a mailroom I wouldn't ship via UPS just from how banged up some of the boxes I get from them are. If you want something undamaged it best have some sort of protective casing and/or packaging to reinforce it like crazy.
Daberious, I'm face-palming to your story on your behalf. What were you thinking!? LOL
Cover your butt. Get the date, time, place, pics, driver's licenses, make & model, car plates, & the video of what the guys says to what they plan on doing.
when parked next to other cars, i always open my doors with my hands on the edge of the door, so that if i open it too far, my hand touches the other car instead of the door, because of a fear of dinging other cars XD
Ok Dabney.
Just for your information.
Our brains cannot fathom the negative.
Telling yourself not to do something will increase the risk of doing it.
“BRAIN WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?” me EVERY SINGLE DAY
I know all about brains deactivating in the moment.
I knew it was in the sink, and still, my hands chose to turn the water on blast for 2 seconds before my brain rebooted.
rSlash out there letting people know that women don’t own the market on remembering cringy things from the past and getting worked up/upset/embarrassed about it. I love it. ^_^
