@@miguellopez3392 Unfortunately Croatia is still struggling economically from the devastating war and serbian occupation which ended in 1998, then the 2008 financial crisis hit Croatia even harder due to few years of recovering and using vast amounts of the state budget to rebuild the country. Croatia has been struggling since, in spite of record tourist numbers each year following. Add to that, the laws concerning foreign investment are rigid and the huge potential is absolutely not tapped into, not by a long shot. Also, many politicians are corrupt. There have been some positive developments though, and especially small businesses have been much more easy to register and administer in addition to receiving some funding from the state. But on the whole, the situation is still far from its potential best and it's a true miracle that the Rimac company has developed in such a positive way and also that he chose to stay in Croatia, in spite of major investors offering vast amounts of money to move the whole production elsewhere as they clearly see the great potential for Rimac's ideas and visions as a businessman and cutting edge developer. It's a shame though, that the Croatian state did not invest money in conjunction with Rimac to build a large car making plant for electrical cars, as the market is growing at a tremendous rate each year.
People not from Croatia, you should know a lot of people here in Croatia don't like Mate or are envious of him. I (who also live and work in Croatia) believe it's because he's the total opposite from a stereotypical Croatian: he works incredibly hard and got everything he has because he built it himself with no one's help. Croatia never had a car company of its own, ever - but thanks to this man, now it does. He could've easily moved it to Germany or France, but he chose to stay here. Mad respect to him and his green 1984 BMW 3 series which started it all.
As a fellow petrolhead from a nearby Montenegro, I really thank you for making this episode with Mate. Interesting guy, going to make great things for automotive industry in the future, I'm sure.
@@majna111 it was meant as an anser to "Themarenda". Mate Rimac is a genious, and croatia make a lot of good products like vhs-rifles, degman tanks and electric trams 👍🏼
Matte has a sincere care about his projects, and he is very transparent on how he and his team have gone about the creation of the vehicle. The way he conducts himself and his approach to designing his vehicle is truly inspiring.
Croatia is now among the few countries in the world to actually have a home grown car industry, albeit on a small scale. Nevertheless it's extremely impressive, taking into account that this all started at a home garage level in a country which was ravaged by war. Within 10 years the Rimac company has grown into a highly respected manufacturer of extreme quality electrical parts for other large and more well known car manufacturers like Porsche, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Pininfarina, Koenigsegg and others, in addition to the electrical hypercars which are almost a bi-product as for now. Although Rimac himself explicitly said several times in Croatian medias that he would love to produce a more affordable type of electric car on a much larger scale, he never got any funding from the state thus forcing him to start production in China in conjunction with the Camel group. This might turn out to be a highly profitable and smart move on Rimac's part, as electrical batteries and other components will be manufactured on a large scale and then later on production of electrical vehicles for the growing Asian market will follow. Thousands of Croatian engineers and designers have been working for large companies in Italy, Austria, Germany etc. It's fun to see previous designers from Pininfarina, General Motors and so on returning home and contributing to the Croatian car industry. I'm convinced we'll see new hi tech products emerging from Croatia in the coming years.
Peter Gadsby I don’t like Elon. He makes these cars that have no passion or excitement to them, and it makes it clear that he isn’t a real car person. And a person who isn’t a car person shouldn’t run an automotive company.
@@sjeffy5137 While Elon can act weird sometimes, it is reasonable to assume he could be a car person. Before joining Tesla, he did drive a Mclaren F1 (and not let it sit in the garage collecting dust). The most intriguing thing is though, that even if he is not a car person, he's definitely a technology person with the disruptive and R&D focused mindset of modern technology companies, and that could make a huge change in the currently stagnant and advertising focused traditional car companies like GM that are also ran by non car people.

He became even more positive and normal person when I picked him up and was driving him to the dentist. So simple, sonormal, not a second a showing off in front of me(even he knew that I recognised him because I ask is it him). Kind, gentle,he sat on the front seat, conversation like we are on the same level with everything, with money, cars, girls, business, everyday problems, sports, etc.(even though his IQ is prolly as double as mine, but we didn't measure it,so maybe mine is as double as his ;) ). There are not so many people who stay normal after a success like thatespecially the young ones), but he is like a relict from an old time, sypatic, kind, gentle, gives respect to everybody, etc, etc. After reading media reports on him, I had a completely different impression, and that is one of the few people who surprised me very positively. After 26 years of experience behind the wheel and many millions of roads behind me, of course that I tried (with a hope of 0,01% ) to ask IF they maybe need a test driver, or a truck driver(somehow the car has to get on the show of course),or at least a test dummy when they are trying how the car behaves when it's hit with 60,80 or 100 km/h or if it hits something at the same speed, but he just laughed and with no rudeness at all he said that they have one test driver for the tracks etc, and one truck driver who are with them for a quite a lot of time. Just based on his behaviour to the people of lower classes( him vs taxi driver), and looking at them as an equal personss, aware that money is nothing, but people are the ones what really counts, I wish him as much luck as he can grab ;D Me, as a taxi driver can tell the difference when somebody gets a company's card and paid hotel room with 4 star in some other country for the first couple of years until they learn that they are expandable and the company's card must be give back.Till that moment, those young white collars behave like they own the world, thry to treat you like a riksha driver in India until you stop, and tell them to get out,and you'll send them another cab,and the drive till that moment is on you. Then they are shocked, eyebrows up,open mouth:"But,but...".I remember the special one which I drove a day before, and next day around lunch. -"NO BUT, WHEN YOU LEARN HOW TO BEHAVE, TO REPLY WITH HELLO OR HI OR ANYTHING WHEN ENTERING THE CAB, AND NOT JUST GIVING THE BUSINESS CARD WITH AN ADRESS WHERE i SHOULD TAKE YOU, AND AFTER THAT LAY ACROSS THE BACKSEAT AND LEAN YOUR CREAMY HAIR ON THE WINDOW SO i HAVE TO USE ALCOHOL AFTER YOU, AND PAYING THE PARTIAL CHEMICAL CLEANING BECAUSE YOU PUT YOUR MUDDY SHOES ON WITHOUT TAKING THEM OFF,AND ALL THAT FOR A LESS THEN 2 EURO DRIVE?? DEAR KID (NOT MISTER OR GENTLEMAN ANYMORE), YOUR PARENTS DIDN'T DO NOT A GOOD JOB, BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE GOOD JOB WHEN YOU WERE RAISING."He wanted to take the shoes off then, and to clean the window because he saw what was left after his hair, but my decision was final. He was leaving the car repeating SORRY hundreds of times through the passenger window and I only told him:"YOU MAY CONSIDER YOUR SELF LUCKY I WON'T TURN IN YOUR REQUEST TO FIND YOU A GIRL IN A CRAIGSLIST,SEND HER TO YOUR ROOM SO YOU CAN PUT IT ON AN EXPENCE OF THE ROOM.i'LL FORGET ABOUT IT SO YOU ARE FREE TO GO." Then he remembered, opened passengers door and put 200kuna( cca 30 euros ) on a passenger seat:"That is a tip for you for me being rude and very unpolite.I'm sorry once again.I'll wait for another cab if you really don't want to drive me".Probably he expected that I will say :"OK,Jump in..."(after he gave 200 kunas(30 euros), but I just took the money, said bye and left him on some random bus statiojhn.

I can't be the only one not excited by these hyper-power cars, right? I just don't get a fizz from them like I used to. It's all numbers and no flair. Remember when cars could kill you with far less power? That was exciting. Remember when texture was the most important part of the driving experience? That was sublime. Remember the cars you could drive forever and not get tired, or not simply run out of road? That was an experience. I just want to have fun, and honestly, power does not equal fun.

It's a shame though, that the Croatian state did not invest money in conjunction with Rimac to build a large car making plant for electrical cars, as the market is growing at a tremendous rate each year.
did you guys notice the person opening the door in the background at 17:13 xD
😂😂😂😂😂
Your name also suits your comment 😂
Yo, boss...uhh...
Bye!
That's Richard Hammond trying to yoink the car :)
It's actually 17:06.
17:12 hey the pizza here....... I'll be back._. lol
Mate, živuća legendo, svaka ti čast! 👏🇭🇷
Beautiful roads from Kašina to Marija Bistrica!
Love the duct tape everywhere
It's slav technology
Sure thing. Croat tech sold to Aston Martin, Jaguar and so on. Must be shit...
@@vatoslocos4160 Why do you think so?
@@majna111 it was meant as an anser to "Themarenda". Mate Rimac is a genious, and croatia make a lot of good products like vhs-rifles, degman tanks and electric trams 👍🏼

Matte has a sincere care about his projects, and he is very transparent on how he and his team have gone about the creation of the vehicle. The way he conducts himself and his approach to designing his vehicle is truly inspiring.
loved the honesty about the nurburgring lap
I know rimacs real business is helping others companies developing tech. That's the money maker
Top gear has got really good recently, love it
The sound this car makes is eerie, somewhere between distant tornado warning and hurricane force winds rattling an old house.

Okay not what the worlds biggest engineers are saying I’m sure Tesla and Porsche want to invest in the company for a reason keyboard warrior
@M Heisenberg ok boomer
@M Heisenberg ts ts ts. Typical boomer response
M Heisenberg no shits it’s work in progress
@M Heisenberg Boi if you think the Rimac looks ugly go look at a Tesla. I'll have a puke bucket ready.

Can't wait to see Hammond driving this 🤭
This guy is brilliant and honest. What an amazing creation. Cheers to you Sir.

Mate: "it's super exciting going around Geneva in a couple of days..."
Corona: "Nope."
this guy is a legend, at only 30 years old. we need more people like him.
Great video, and what a humble guy he is; look forward to seeing him be successful and continue to grow the company!
I'd never said one but it looks splendid. Mr Rimac comes across as a friendly humble guy. Good luck to him.
He seems such a nice humble guy, so different to Elon.... I wish Rimac all success in future
Ironically, much more like Nikola Tesla (apparently was) in that respect.
Elon's spending too much time being a meme lord, and also probably a significant amount of time working on SpaceX.
Elon is not even human
Thanks to these lovely videos I have started watching Top Gear again. Quality seems to have risen lately. Grand Tour has become a show about rivers in Vietnam. I want cars and Top Gear delivers. Keep it up, guys.
I love my Zagreb!I hope you had fun in it.Cheers mate
Impressive, how serious and open minded he is simultaniously.
I waited a thousand years for this
He definitely made me more excited for electric cars. He seems quite raw and real
Bravo za Matu, "Sino samo dej gasa"!😁
I'm mostly respecting this guy for also being a key help in EVs for different companies like Porsche, he is helping everyone while creating an awesome car!
03:36 "he didn't want to save the planet"
There is something really wrong with "old" car culture when this phrase is a compliment that makes someone more credible.
I know this will sound strange to "petrolheads" who are whining endlessly about engine sounds and whatever, but wanting to save the planet for your kids and grandchildren, that's actually a good thing.

Imagine top gear wrecked it yet again after all these years lol
Top Gear never wrecked it. The Grand Tour did.
GT did, not TG.
My bad, I thought it was way back.
This guy is a good dude, and theirs absolutely no doubts about that, because even if Mark Hammond did destroyed his concept 1 witch was worth 1 or 2 millions $, and he never showed any signs of Angers, he just keeps on smiling, if someone... whoever it is, would crash a 1 million + car that I would owned, I would probably show theeth too, but not in the same way, but seriously he really look like a good dude, in a lot of ways he makes me think of Christian Von Koenigseeg they both builts the whole cars in a very small shop and they both end up with some of the more performances cars in the worlds. 👍👍👍👍👍

Mate Rimac is like the real life Tony Stark, super bright and a cool guy.
Shut up, Elon Musk is Tony Stark and don't you forget it. Rimac can be Bruce Wayne

Not into electric cars, but this is such a beautiful car.
My two favorite companies are Rimac and Koenigsegg (I’m sure I spelled atleast one of those wrong) cause they’re owners r not only geniuses but they happily share their passion, ideas, and technology in ways we can enjoy without ever seeing the car
Awesome car and great interview. I have alot of respect for Mr. Rimac.

Top Gear firing back shots at Amazon and the trio like they have throughout Grand Tour. Love it
are we all going to ignore that beautiful subwoofer?
Just based on his behaviour to the people of lower classes( him vs taxi driver), and looking at them as an equal personss, aware that money is nothing, but people are the ones what really counts, I wish him as much luck as he can grab ;D
Me, as a taxi driver can tell the difference when somebody gets a company's card and paid hotel room with 4 star in some other country for the first couple of years until they learn that they are expandable and the company's card must be give back.Till that moment, those young white collars behave like they own the world, thry to treat you like a riksha driver in India until you stop, and tell them to get out,and you'll send them another cab,and the drive till that moment is on you.
He was leaving the car repeating SORRY hundreds of times through the passenger window and I only told him:"YOU MAY CONSIDER YOUR SELF LUCKY I WON'T TURN IN YOUR REQUEST TO FIND YOU A GIRL IN A CRAIGSLIST,SEND HER TO YOUR ROOM SO YOU CAN PUT IT ON AN EXPENCE OF THE ROOM.i'LL FORGET ABOUT IT SO YOU ARE FREE TO GO."
Then he remembered, opened passengers door and put 200kuna( cca 30 euros ) on a passenger seat:"That is a tip for you for me being rude and very unpolite.I'm sorry once again.I'll wait for another cab if you really don't want to drive me".Probably he expected that I will say :"OK,Jump in..."(after he gave 200 kunas(30 euros), but I just took the money, said bye and left him on some random bus statiojhn.
Top Gear: Uploads a video of Rimac..
Everybody: Richard..
Brilliant insight into the company...and the man who started it all. Maté sounds like your typical workaholic. Very driven, very focused...like most people who start from humble beginnings.
Very cool guy! #Respect
I admire his dream car collection, too.
Hammond: 😨😱
Watching this makes me a proud Croat :)
I think Lotus will be king of the EV's on track, Tesla on the Drag strip and Rimac on top speed.
and most will buy the porsche taycan
Nah Tesla is a family car won't compete and the coupe would overheat since theres no vents to cool the batteries
Tesla has nothing special for it to be a king on drag strip. Both Lotus and Rimac will demolish it on the strip
