That Josh Homme rhythm tone is spot on. Glad you didn't add too much gain which is a common mistake when people try pull Qotsa off. Thank you so much for this guys!!!!
I actually thought it was too much gain. If you watch the video with Troy, he says that "know one knows" is actually clean tone. They put tons of gain on that.
I didn't know that! :O You learn something new everyday. That's good though, because Mr. Leeuwen actually plays with singlecoils more than P90's anyway.
13:39 - nailed it! Thank you Gents. Sounds like *Kyuss* ? I pray someday they'll groove together again while I'm alive to hear it. Homme, Garcia, Oliveri, and Bjork -- with Chris Goss producing again. Blues for the Red Sun was perfect in every way possible. Cheers!
Comments on these videos generally completely ignored the video and just demand what they want to see next. I think you really nailed this one. Was yelling Dusenburg at my monitor the whole time you were mucking about with the 335. Was dead happy when you switched!
Yep, any of those seminal straight-edge/core/post-punk bands from that period would be fun. Personally, I'd choose Husker Du/Bob Mould. But Fugazi would be cool (according to Alex Stewart it's very simple). All I know about Mould is that he used SS amps, with a tube amp (Fender Twin, I think) added to his live rig later in his career. MXR Distortion+, Flying V/Strat. That's pretty simple. He records using Line6 modelling!
Jazzmasters have been in production for like 60+ years. How do people still not understand that their pickups are NOT P90S! There is literally nothing similar about them. From construction to tone, they could not be more different, other than the fact that they're both single coils.
Jacob Moffatt I love these andertons guys but none of them actually know very much about gear haha. They know all the buzzwords but their knowledge is extremely surface-level - even the supposed "experts" like chappers, Lee, and Pete. But I guess the videos are more about entertainment than education anyway haha
@@mrpunkkiller7153 actually their pedals actually very simple and consistent like jhs superbolt, dd-3, some analog delays, and fuzzes. given that they already have 3 guitarists and probably tweaking some knobs to get the specific sounds

Glad this series is back! Even if the mark isn't always hit (in my opinion), it's extremely entertaining to see Rabea and Matt's approach on classic tones. I really don't blame them for not always getting close. We have to remember they're going after tones that are mixed and produced, eq'd, compressed, etc. Great effort from these two.
Really cool, Check out Eric Valentines vid (Engineer and Producer for Queens), he gives a walk through in his studio on how he got the guitar tones. It’s really cool!!!!
That sounded amazing. Really nailed it, and on its own just sounded great. Never would have picked all those items in the rig together, but it really growled and sounded fantastic. I really loved the sound.
Signature Fender Stratocaster and if it's out of stock they can get the one they used for John Frusciante By busting Marshall JTM Head and Cab Ibanez Tube Screamer Vox Wah pedal and that should be it
Cory Wong would be so simple. Squier Strat - I think I’ve seen Jack use an affinity so that’s totally within budget, Fender deluxe reverb and a compressor. Put that thang in fourth position and funk away. Get Nathan or Lee from the bass show to guest star for Joe Dart while they’re at it.
Zonda599Major Pretty much yea. I wonder though what compressor will do the job. I know Cory uses a comressor in to the amp but when it comes to the vulfcompressor on the track im not shure how they could achieve that sound. I guess they would have to go for live rigs.
gurraplurr yeah I know he uses a Wampler Ego compressor, but they could get anything with a blend knob tbh. And I think they mainly use vulf compressor on stuff like drums and keys - the guitar stuff doesn’t seem to have as much of that vinyl-type squishiness.

@@ericward6919 exactly. The harmonics at 14:07 are a dead giveaway. They're much more cleaner on the record, even live across the years.

@@ericward6919As I understand the No One Knows tone is straight up just treble boosted clean.
That dude from Livinroom Gear Demos nailed it in his room with a handful of pedals, a Gibson ES335 and a toneking.
Good shout with going with the 335 and not a Gretsch
Update: never mind
It’s not even a 335, can’t believe they’d get that wrong, it doesn’t take much to memorise the difference between 335s, 345s and 355s

Queens of Stone Age do hard panning a lot on both guitars in the studio
