I have been obsessed with the tones and production of this album for many, many moons. I actually bought a '71 VT combo, had to sell it because it was a money pit, and the wrong year. The white switch 76 is the one you want kids. Eventually got the tone I was chasing with a Catlinbread SFT MkII and various EQ & boost pedals. I can pre amp that into IR loaders now and go crazy with it. It's a very rude & gnarly distortion that I had to have after hearing "Tension Head" on Rated R. Very Black Flag-ish.

Rick, if you want a better understanding of Josh Homme and his guitar sound take a look at his history as a guitar player. I grew up with him in the Palm Springs, Ca area in the early 90s where he helped develop the “Desert Rock” sound. Bands that emerged from this scene were Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Eagles of Death Metal and Brant Bjork to name a few. The sound in general relied heavily on the drone sound of distorted drop c tuned guitars. Josh regularly used an Ampeg amp and cabinet with an Ovation Ultra GP to get his sound starting with Kyuss. Look into the Desert Rock scene in Palm Desert, Ca in the early 90’s.

Pretty sure it's 14\12 on the high C, into 12/15\12 on the G finishing on 12 on the Eb. That quick transition between the two slides, finishing with the stop makes for some tricky fingering. Great band! Figured you'd tackle a Queens song sooner or later. Next you need a Pink Floyd tune

Really glad you've covered Qotsa and Tool Rick, I never noticed it was an orchestra playing that, thought it was an electronic effect. Great work as always.
