love the sneaky Lenin
No facial hair Best Buy JT is almost unrecognizable.
When I took an intro photography class in college I remember it took us about a third of the quarter to properly cover the exposure triangle. Thank you for teaching in 20 mins what my professor couldn't teach in 2 weeks!
I am not used to this man explaining art instead of economics.
I'll go back to this when I eventually have the time and freedom to start caring about these skills
Same lol we're busy azz hard workin stiffs stuck in capitalism.
The analogy of the ISO and Salt is sooo good
5:25 Exposure elements triangle with numbers
13:34 Exposure elements triangle with effects
I am absolutely screenshotting both of these. Thank you so much!
Glad I could help!
This is just great for learning about photography in general, got a new hobby in the list
None of this is new to me 🙂 but the presentation is excellent, I'll be bookmarking this video to share when people post/ask me about photography basics. A useful primer to get a true beginner versed in terminology etc. Cheers JT
Also nice to see some Christopher Frost & Teo Crawford clips! You have good taste in camera TH-camrs
Thanks JT, you're doing great work here once again
This is, without any doubt, the best explanation about how to use a camera. The execution is absolutely perfect.
Very nicely done JT!
Thanks! I like vids like this and absolutely hate most creators on stuff like this. It's real, not over the top, really good and solid information that actually helps a lot!
I've been trying to get into photography, and this terminology was daunting. Incredible job making all of this so clear, so easy to understand!
I'll still be filming on my phone for at least a few more months but this is so helpful!
Most natural transition to an ad read ever (no sarcasm, I really mean that)
Thank you JT for these excellent tutorials. It’s hard to believe you ever worked at Best Buy, because you actually have knowledge and the generosity to share it.
I heard the Deprogram where you talked about how much money you have spent on cameras. (Well, you actually didn't mention any numbers). I just thought that it would be really cool if you would make a video on photoshooting. AND HERE WE ARE! You literally posted that exact Video on the same day!!
And it is great! I would really like to see more about that, especially about video-filming, how to use a editing software and what pictures you can get out of your basic smartphone camera! (Last one is my personal favorite!)
Have a great day, you and your family and friends and habibis!
PS: Also First Thought released a Video about the end of he Ukrainian-war! Also a question that followed me around last days. It's like you could read my mind.
Hey just wanted to say I enjoy your channels a lot. Especially 2nd thought. Hope I can make my channels operate as well as you do. Thanks man!
Oh man, excellent, concise breakdown. I honestly love nothing more than a manual exposure, manual focus prime shooting situation for most of the things I'd want to take pictures of. As long as things aren't changing too fast, the camera will just never know as well as you what you're trying to take pictures of or what factors would be best to manipulate for the exposure you want.
There are times for zoom lenses and autofocus, and I'd prefer the option of autofocus even on a prime lens I'll almost never want to use autofocus on, but most of the time things just work out better when you just do them yourself.
Trying to get a spider on a web blowing in the wind in focus while manually focusing can be a chore, for instance, but at least you're not sitting there trying to get the camera to figure out what you're even trying to take a picture of while it repeatedly gets the leaves 30 feet behind the spider in perfect focus.
I don't often take pictures in situations dynamic enough for a zoom lens to be particularly necessary, but a very dynamic situation might take the convenience of a zoom and turn it into a necessity too. Say you're out at a protest and shit goes from inspiring to critically important for documentation and journalism purposes, for instance.. a wide prime might have been great for capturing the scene when you wanted that scope, but as something starts going down, you might want a closer, more detailed view of something specific happening, and you might want that view NOW, rather than in 30-60 seconds once you've sorted a more appropriate focal length lens.
Camera shit is just such a more broad and deep subject than I'd ever imagined it to be when I bought my camera to very clumsily cover the george floyd stuff in my area, and as someone with a gnarly case of ADHD, "there's more to this than I expected" is my kryptonite. Also, sidebar: a mirrorless camera with a nice wide prime makes for an excellent webcam.
Excellent video 👍
Return of the King
Thanks (as a student of graphic design of digital media, I reaaaally do appreciate this video!)
Something that JT doesn't cover, in video/motion you rarely mess with the shutter speed/angle. Default cinema shutter angle is 180 degrees or 1/48 shutter speed. In hollywood movies, you'll see only certain shots that are fast shutter speed like action/fight sequences so it doesn't appear as a blurry mess. Videos are more reliant on using ND filters to correct exposure. For beginners I suggest just buying a screw-on variable ND filter that matches the size of your lens's front element. Actual cinema cameras usually equipped with a mattebox for filters to be put in.
What are some of the documentaries you have made?
holy shet, Young JT look like typical youtuber
❤️❤️❤️❤️
10:30 oh dear, how I hate that. I prefer "objective", "hyperreal" look, especially when shooting people. That means low motion blur and deep focus.
Comment for algorithm ❤
Hey JT, I've been following you ever since I discovered your political content three years ago. Do you have any recommendations for video editing tools? My trade is in audio, and I've ventured into video editing recently. I've been using DaVinci Resolve's free version for a few years, but the way it expects users to do plugin automation makes me want to hammer nails into my brain.
