    I only started having an interest in long distance running last year when I decided to do a bit of cardio with my weight training. It looks like I chose a good time to pay attention cause there seems to be a lot of young runners with loads of potential.

      @muhammad I'm not optimistic, you're optimistic. It doesn't change their chances of improving their times.
      I doubt Barega can set that pace on his own and I stand with that.
      But yeah he has insane potential and giving the depth of 5000 m and 10000m quality field now with Cheptegei , Barega, Kejelcha, Ahmed, Hagos, Edris, Kipruto. If all of them join for a quick race and Cheptegei or Kipruto or anyone else sets a solid pace and the kickers do their job well there could be possibly a whole new order of all time lists. I doubt we would see a world record.
      And for the 10000 m record Kipruto or Cheptegei seem to be better candidates , they have done spectacularly well at roads and they should be able to translate such times to the track sooner or later.

    50 percent chance he folds, as that is the curse of these Wunderkind in distance running. Sure, his talent will make him world class for a long time, but world records in distance running these days requires intangible factors we don't even understand. And do you know what? I hope I'm wrong, as I'm a fanboy of Jakob Ingebrigtsen.

    Given that he is a 5k runner given if he is able to drop a 56 second last lap, i could see him running 3:29 for 1500m, 7:35ish or faster for 3k, 12:35 for 5000m, 26:39 for 10k. I'm not doubting the kid. For the mile about 3:49 maybe. I know this is a stretch, but what he could run for 800m given he is able to drop a deadly final lap. I see him running 1:45 for that distance. Any thoughts. I'm open for comments.

    • @buckweasel5931
      @buckweasel5931 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good predictions but I think a 1:45 800m dash is a bit unrealistik. I think it would be like 1:47 or 1:48

    • @alansamuel2454
      @alansamuel2454 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your predictions are awfully on spot and are in fact very sensible with good reasons behind them.
      But he's on his way to run a 7:29 3000 m in my opinion, he's already done a 7:32 this year. And a 3:49 is not something he can pull off. Kejelcha (a way faster in the 1500 m and the mile) only managed a 3:58. He might do a 3:54 most likely.

    • @timgutcher9151
      @timgutcher9151 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tpoli5447 he is a 5000m specialist so he may not have times that you would think he should be running based on his ability. Not alot of distance runners can break 7:30 for 3k or 7:40 even. But good thought though.

    12.37-12.39. I think he will run his fastest times in the next 2-3 years. I believe Ingebritsen will fall short of Baregas records, but will compete at higher level way longer. The inner competion in Ethiopian team, while it's good, it also takes too much out of them at younger ages. You cant be out of form for long or 5 new younger runners are there to take your place.

    • @alansamuel2454
      @alansamuel2454 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude ingebritsen is mainly a 1500 m and miler who also runs cross countr and 5000 m.So it's no doubt that Barega is better than him at the 5000 m and 10000 m.

    • @alansamuel2454
      @alansamuel2454 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ingebritsen will soon be unrivalled on the European scene after Filip's retirement. So yes he will last way longer. The African competition is far more insane.

    I don't think he'll go faster than his 12:43. How often do you get a great pacemaker for 4,600m? If you compare that to Bekele's WR, Bekele only had pacing for maybe half of it. He is a great runner though, so maybe he'll get another ideal conditions race.
    I do disagree about the kick aspect though. I've yet to see a super fast last lap in a 5km (i.e., 52-53 that the top kickers have, Bekele, farah, etc...). Can't compare him dropping Kejelcha in that 5,000m as Kejelcha lead the entire race. Look at other slower paced races he's been in last year and this year and he just doesn't have that very top end speed yet. Perhaps it will still develop but I don't see it right now.

    • @alansamuel2454
      @alansamuel2454 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He has top end speed but not good enough to last a whole bell lap. And I agree , he won't ever get another perfectly paced race like that again where he can sit at the shoulder and then strike.

    Just take into account that bekele did his 5k ana 10k WRs almost on his own while barega was paced all the way up to the last lap on his 12:43 PR, I don't really think he'd break bekele's WR unless it was an insanely fast race from the very start with him and kejelcha helping each other out, I see the 10k WR is even harder to break tbh.

      It's very hard to find 8:03 pacemaker for 3200m and go on last 1800m alone. If there is great Ethiopian or Kenyan pacemaker to block wind effect for long enough this boy has potential to do it.
