    Lets give respect to the male commentator. His commentary of the final round is pure poetry, magic: "They take the bell in the men's' 5000 meters. Such heart, such passion - this is great racing. Their eyeballs are out. Hundreds of mile, for years and years; just for this opportunity to shine on the global stage..."

    • @charlesthorndike2702

      @@tripcLFM4L It is indeed rare. Jakob's 13:02.03 is 23.43 seconds ahead of the second-fastest non-African U20 runner of all time. That is lightyears. And Ahmed is 9 years older than Jakob. If I remember correctly Ahmed said in an interview after the race that Jakob is the future of the sport.

    • @freedomm
      @freedomm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    • @charlesthorndike2702
      @charlesthorndike2702 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@freedomm That is incorrect. Barega was born on January 20th 2000, while Jakob was born on September 19th 2000. Jakob is younger. (Krop is younger than Jakob though (d.o.b. june 4th 2001) )
      "And that's just this race." I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean.
      The score between Jakob and Barega is now 1-1. Barega beat Jakob here, but Jakob beat Barega at the 2018 U20 World Championships (Jakob got 3rd, while Barega got 4th)
      Also, keep in mind that there is no one in the world that is in Jakob's league in both the 1500m and the 5000m. The only guy faster than Jakob at the moment in the 1500 is Timothy Cheruiyot, and he's far from Jakob's level in the 5000m. And the 5000 runners that are faster than Jakob, are nowhere near his 1500 times. Jakob will go down in history as one of the all-time greats in distance running.

    • @freedomm
      @freedomm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Charles Thorndike Charles Thorndike My bad. I thought Barega was born in 2001. But he’s run 12:43 which is just another level. He’s the next world record holder. “Just this race” meant there are several younger guys in Ethiopia and Kenya that weren’t picked for the teams to Doha. Like the guys that won gold and silver at the world junior championships ahead of Jakob. They’re all the future. It’s going to be competitive. As for the 1500m, you’re forgetting Elijah Manangoi, who regularly beats Cheruiyot in training, was injured last year. Also, Algeria’s Toufik Makhloufi was also injured most of last year and he’s also faster. Add Manangoi’syounger brother George (younger than Jakob) who won gold at the world junior champs and the Ethiopian Samuel Tefera, another young guy who broke the indoor world record. Crowded field. I feel Jakob will continue to come out without medals if he does not pick one event to concentrate on.

      I'm an Ethiopian who ran track and also lived in Kenya for about 3 years. I love Kenya and Kenyan runners but the difference is that Ethiopians put flag (and, therefore, team), ahead of individual glory. The winner's glory is a shared national glory. The contributions of teammates is given as much weight. Historically, Kenyans are not known for teamwork although they have improved so much over the last few years. I love Kenya and I always root for them to do well but not as well as us.

      When you are in the middle of lane 1, and someone is hugging the inside of the same lane. There's bound to be contact when the front runner moves to the inside on the curves. I'm not sure about international rules, but collegiate rules specify you need a stride and half clearance when you are moving to the inside. There was no foul here, Ahmed is the one who kept moving from the center of the lane to the inside, he was lucky he didn't get clipped hard enough to bring him down.

      I wonder how often he trains on a motorized treadmill in comparison to the others. It is my understanding that it is harder to practice pushing off the ground on a treadmill. Would this affect the efficiency of his stride?
