Agree with all these points...nice vid! Only difference is, I actually kind of like visiting the tailor. For me, it's more like going to the barber than the DMV. Then again, I have a build that requires lot so of tailoring, so I've learned to love the process (like you said).
Yeah I'm the same, I enjoy getting fitted up, even though i don't have to do it often. I just figured some (most?) guys aren't like us ;)
I’m new to the tailor and I’ve only visited one tailor so far. I’m not too comfortable yet but I know it’s only a small price to pay for dressing appropriately for my age (standing out of the crowd). Thanks Barron and also thanks to the modestman:)
Dude, if John Wick can do somersaults and kill like a million baddies wearing a suit and tie, then that's good enough for me. Hell, in JW3 he even walked through the desert in a full suit until he collapsed from heat exhaustion without even loosening his tie. That's dedication to sharp style LOL.
Have you tried the EZY jeans in uniqlo? Its a slim fit jeans that feels like you wear track pants.
Yeah they’re definitely leaning more casual. Pretty comfy though
Good morning, Barron. Loved the video. Fit is so important. Right now I'm on the tail end of a weight loss journey so fit is taking a small hit. Still, I need to reach my goal before I re-visit my tailor and/or buy new clothes.
Yep, it happens. When I was 80 lbs heavier like 12 or 13 years ago, I lost a bunch of weight in my first 6 months and I had to keep buying waist sizes that were smaller and smaller. I think that's a good thing though; physical proof you're making progress. Keep it up!
This is my struggle too. I’m in decent shape, but my weight (size) still fluctuates way too often. It’s a huge challenge. I find myself opting for casual items with a little more stretch built into the fabric. Allows for a little room for error.
What is the advantage to buying luxury vs. good quality/fit value items? Is it just cost/wear? Is it fabric weights that just tend to drape better? Or is it just mostly brand snobbery?
A few reasons.
Different budgets: For some people, $2000 on a suit or $400 on a shirt is nothing. If you were making $500,000/yr, why would you shop at Wal-Mart or Target for your clothing when you could shop at Tom Ford and Brunello Cucinelli?
Functionality: sometimes high-priced stuff is designed better or serves a specific purpose and does it best.
Cost per wear: If you buy a great $1000 coat and you wear it for 10+ years, the price makes sense... not to mention the joy you get from wearing it all that time.
Pure desire: Sometimes you just want something that's luxurious. I want nice sport coats, nice shoes, I like expensive shit that feels nice and gives me a good experience wearing it. Sometimes you just want beautiful, expensive, nice things. Nothing wrong with that.
Effortless Gent thanks. It might be a good video idea. Where investing makes sense and where it doesn’t. Or maybe a comparison video like Uniqlo Selvidge vs super premium selvidge and highlight the trade offs. Keep up the great work. Love your content.
Am I correct that there is enough variety in jeans that you should not have to tailor them?
Yeah, I'd say so. As long as you're ok with being patient and finding the right brand and fit for you.
I like to go made to measure whenever possible. It's surprisingly affordable and saves all the trouble of tailing everything I buy.
Me too but sometimes I’m impatient. And it’s never been perfect for me and I have to go to the tailor anyway
We all learnt it the hard way :)
That prom pic was gone too fast
hahaha
I'm a simple man. I see a Barron video and I like and comment. Great video as always.
haha i think i have a superfan. thanks man :)
