    We do on avg. 15-20 leather care interiors at my shop each week.
    What I've found to be the best combo is Griots Interior Cleaner followed by Leather Rescue Restorer.
    The cleaner is safe and can be used on any part of the interior.
    I use a horse hair brush along with microfiber towels, the cleaner does most of the work for me.
    Great video

    I agree with Matt Woywod, your dialogue remind me of my college days of my favorite Psychology Professor. I really love your articulation, and most importantly, your passion for "perfection" in car detailing. I too, have that same passion, but only on a personal and not a professional level like yourself. U're now my #1 car retailer on the tube! Keep em' coming!

    Been replaying all your older videos to the point where I swear I was starting to memorize your dialogue. You have officially surpased my graduate school psyology professor as "the teacher that had the greatest impact on my life" haha. But seriously, thanks for all the information. You are a top notch detailer and teacher who genuinely wants to give his viewers the tools to be effective, efficient, and profitable. You're a legend in my book. A god damn detailing wizard.

      +Matt Woywod Perhaps you have just surpassed any of the compliments that have been floated my way! I promise not to let it inflate my head and will simply use it to motivate me further. It is a labor of love; both detailing and teaching...with emphasis on labor. And funny you mention the part about memorizing my dialogue....that is the running joke around my household as every one of my five kids and wife can quote me verbatim all day long with Darren's Lexicon.
      Thanks for tuning in and I truly appreciate your thoughts.

      I'd have to agree Very Impressive Info here and put in a way to reach even the dead zones in the minds of some lol Ok so I watched many videos but most seem to just be trying to sell a certain product while making you think you're actually being given knowledge you sought after. I love detailing my car I always have with every used car I've owned Long List haa Some say I'm "Addicted" others "Obsessed" and other terms I just strive to keep the Condition of my car Tip Top and to my liking after all it is "My Car" But seriously Thank You

    Darren! I just wanted to say when I first stumbled upon your videos, I too said you "talk to much." However, at work where I spend hours masking cars to be painted. I have a lot of time to think about what you say. I take back that feeling because I you honestly leave much to take in. You're giving us more than enough information to really make our own decisions, rather than selling us products. That my friend is the true characteristics of a great teacher! I've been a "driveway detailer" since before I could drive. only in the last year or so, I've wanted to hone in my skills. I get asked regularly to help friends and families with their cars. And your videos have been extremely helpful in keeping it simple yet effective. For that, I thank you!

    I worked with leather for 20+ years at a shoe repair shop. You know how we cleaned LV Cole Haan? We got it very wet. We then scrubbed it out with Lincoln EZ cleaner using a very stiff nylon brush. You pretty much can't hurt it...same for suede in which case we sand blasted it out. Just an FYI. Once the leather was dry after sitting for a day or two we would go in and condition it with Leather Only which smells like fresh leather and does a great job.

    Yeah... those leather cleaners/ conditioners are for gentle cleaning.
    A leather lotion is good for leather that is starting to show age and perhaps drying out a bit. At that point, any clear coat/ protectant has likely worn off.
    Good video. Nice, informative demo. 👍

    • @madtonesbr
      @madtonesbr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed; people say car leather is coated (and it is) but any wear will reveal its porous nature, and aged seats more that a few years old with any wear to the top layer (and definitely those where you see layers underneath/cracking/serious creasing) will need, and absorb, conditioning if you want to take care of it.

    Auto Fetish Detail - Do you have a suggestion for cleaning transferred dye from black leather off of cream colored car seats? The black leather is from the little black leather book the dealer gives when buying or leasing a new car. It's usually in the glove compartment. I threw it on the back seat of my 2015 VW Passat and it stained the seats. I lease this vehicle and hope to somehow remove the stain before I turn it back in. Thanks!!

    Darren thanks for taking the time to make another great video. You have saved me a lot of time and money. I was wondering if you can you clarify something for me? In your video did you use Meguiars Super Degreaser or Multipurpose Cleaner? I think you said you used the Super Degreaser on the lowest cleaned spot. Also in the beginning of the video you had 3D in your Meguiars Multipurpose Cleaner Bottle, but at the end of your video you had Meguiars Multipurpose Cleaner in the its own bottle. If I'm wrong I apologize. Have a safe and Happy Holiday!

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +RC Flying I used Megs APC in the video. I think I may have tried the Super Degreaser off camera, but wanted to keep the test to using the Megs APC as I think that is more of a fair comparison. And for the amount of dirt on this leather, the Megs APC proved to be sufficient. I did have the 3D mixed in a Megs bottle also. Sorry for the confusion. See the end as to my final conclusion as to the ultimate winners; I know Megs APC was one of them.

    I use lexol just as a conditioner after cleaning. I never use the lexol cleaner, just conditioner. It's actually the exact same stuff I use on my leather shoes. Lol.
    As long as you refresh the leather after cleaning it, it will stay supple. That soft car leather is such a thin layer on top of the cushioning, gentle cleaners are better in my experience. Great thing about leather is, it usually will clean up quite well if you're careful. You could use a leather cream to try and color match worn spots too.

    At 5:07 you mention it's coated leather... if coated leather can still wear and lose colour, is it possible to dye it to bring back the factory look? or will the 'coating' prevent that ?

    • @madtonesbr
      @madtonesbr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can dye any leather but dyes are dark. If it's a light color, you'd need to apply another coating and they dye that with something more akin to a paint - search for a TH-cam video called "Fix Cracking Leather" for an example of a more extensive repair. In the meanwhile I'd continue to finely clean then condition that part of the leather to stop it from cracking or drying further.

    • @jeffjeffrey4956
      @jeffjeffrey4956 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use Nu-Life (Meltonian) color spray and feather it on then if it's too light, spray a mist of (black usually) very sparingly to get it toned down. I did this all the time on shoes/boots/purses/cars/belts...anything. I think the coating is a polymer and as it wears off, the color then gets worn off. You add back the color, then condition it and you're good to go. If you mess it up, go back over it with acetone and it will wipe right back off.

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +godinezmarco You propose a compelling argument or position, but with that said, I have cars (both personal and professional) that I have done nothing but clean the car leather in this manner, and the car leather looks and feels as new and good today as it did brand new, and one of these examples is on a 15 year old MBZ. But with that said, I have seen cars where a single panel of leather within the car was incredibly dry, and stiff, while the rest of the leather in the same car was supple and smooth. Once again, so many inconsistencies within the car world. I am not opposed to conditioners of any kind, I just don't consider it an end-all solution as many people do. Most people skip the more critical point of cleaning the car leather and simply apply dressing/conditioners and do so right over the dirt causing a bigger problem in the long term.

    Why not use tornador and use Meguiars APC it could be faster to clean the leather or super degreaser
    Also I recommended you Simple Green that product breaks the dirt like faster than the super degreaser well that my opinion,
    so in the end with which product you finish the product the super degreaser or the 3D Upholstery

      +Snowms1 Despite the redeeming value of the Tornador, I know I can clean the seats quicker this way than with the Tornador.

      To add to other advice - avoid Armor-All! Can't say this applies to ALL their products but most of them, especially the ones they are famous for like interior shine, are useless and low quality. I can't imagine their basic cleaner is any good.

    Why did you pick all-purpose over super-degreaser?

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ryan Nas Simply because as a rule, I use the least aggressive process to get the results I am after. If this leather was extremely dirty, I would have used the super-degreaser. That, and I think many people go into panic mode when they see me bust out the degreaser and start cleaning leather with it.

      Auto Fetish Detail You tested the Meguiars All-Purpose Super Degreaser, but ending up using the Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner correct? Or are they the same thing?

    One thing stays unclear. Ok, you are using leather cleaner to clean the leather. In your opinion, we dont need to use leather milk/conditioner at all? And by the way, what is the difference between leather with clear coating and without it?

    • @Hattonbank
      @Hattonbank 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A leather with no coating is known as a full aniline leather and should never be used in automobiles as it has minimum wear qualities, resistance to dirt, or to YV, high or low temperatures.
      Auto leathers all have lacquer applied fir durability.
      The less lacquer, the softer and nicer the leather is but that comes with less durability.
      The thicker the lacquer, usually applied to the lower cost embossed/grained leathers, the more durability but at a trade off to softness and touch

    Hey Auto Fetish, this in regards to people commenting about the long videos. Hopefully it's taken as constructive criticism. I do watch your vids... but usually at 1.5x speed. :)
    At most, there's like 15 minutes worth of actual content in this 43 min video!! I understand some people need the extra info and that's fine but that's not really the problem. A good analogy would be writing a 2 page essay but the assignment required 4 pages so you're like shit, how can I make what I said longer so it takes up 4 pages.
    Here's an example of how much could be trimmed.
    @33:55: "So then the debate comes on cost. This could be diluted down, oh what is it, ok 16 to 1. Trust me, if you don't get exactly right its not going to make or break your world. I promise you. If it's 14 to 1, 18 to 1, it's still gonna work.So don't overthink that part....
    Trimmed (about 1/3 original's length)
    Let's look at cost. This one says to dilute at 16 to 1, and trust me, it doesn't matter too much if you're ratio is off a little.
    Applied to the rest of the video, it would be 15 mins long!
    Info only (about 1/5 original's length)
    Looking at cost; this one gets diluted at 16 to 1.
    Applied to the rest of the video, it would be 9 mins long!
