Even after watching what seems like a million van tours, here is one with tons of great new (to me) ideas. I was just looking for an entryway shower pan idea that is flush with the rest of the floor and yet won't give you cold feet in Canadian winters due to the missing floor insulation below. And bonus it is a wet/dirty boot tray. Bravo!

Hi Mike in London (my hometown for 10 years). Thanks for the compliment and more than happy if you want to shoot me a message here or on IG - bruce_and_mika_in_oz if you want anymore details
The two-way radio, I hear, is important for driving on long stretches of deserted roads in Australia. Same with the extra water. ...Wonder about air-conditioning needs, though, on 40 plus degrees Celsius days. ...To me, this is brilliant. A really smart design. I will definetly be interested in having a very similar set up my self, especially the shower and toilet set up at the back. ...I also love how there is options to extend outside, whether the dishwashing shelf, outdoor showering, and the sitting under the tent and eating. I like how the couch converts into a bed, as it gives a real spaciousness. Great design.
GREAT JOB! Lots of simple, well thought out, and great ideas. LOVE the sky window, the swing, and shower! The rubber band drawer locks are not only practical but decorative too! Safe travels and thanks for sharing.
The swing is definitely a cool feature. Nothing like a bit of fun for your home on wheels. And it seems like he's getting some practical use out of it too!
@@brucedenley371 Absolutely love your van Bruce. We just bought our own sprinter to fit out, Would you be happy sharing who built out your bed? we are in need! many thanks
I don’t know about Australia, but in the United States they’ve been using half height pull out drawer instead of shelves for decades, and they won’t allow stuff to fall out when you open the door
This is a great van.....even when I thought I was about to catch you not having a shower and toilet, you didn't disappoint. You have made a great use of your space......very nice indeed. You have everything you need!
Glad you liked the video. He's researched this van super heavily and I know he occasionally trolls the comments to reply to questions too. No doubt he'll be happy you appreciate his info 😀
Great tour, thank you. I've just bought my Sprinter LWB high roof and love seeing other people's imagination, design and reasoning become a reality so I can learn from their experience and create my own design.
Congratulation on making the purchase. I'd love to see what you're up to. Send me a message on Instagram as you progress thought your build! Good luck. 😀
Hi there, that's definitely a good old South African accent I hear there! Brilliant build on your van. It is spacious and has everything you may need. I've watched tons of van build vids and a lot of them seem very cramped.
Definitely an awesome layout. I think it's my dream van. The only thing I think I would even change is to add a roof fan. ❤️ Short wheel base with more space!
Well done! Clever, practical and looks great. Good to know the model of your sprinter in Australia. You also chose one of my favourite views of Sydney Harbour.
Beautifully designed van, well thought out and executed. You don't see that many short WB Sprinter vans with a "wetbath". This shows that it can be done, if you have the skill and imagination to pull it off. I like the skylight as well. Although side windows might seem nice, they limit your ability to insulate and is a safety issue. Skylights bring in the light where its most prevalent and allows you to go with no side windows increasing stealth!
Heya Nitram thanks for your comment. I'm stoked you like the build! I agree with the window comment, though insulation with the windows is less of an issue over here in Australia. I think the Blackout blinds he's made help regulate the heat (as well as the light).
Hi Nitram. I have good fabric curtains and I made some custom insulated blinds which helps with insulation. I decided not to put a window in the road facing side to keep the van looking more stealth for inner city sleep overs
Bruce the knob you have on your steering wheel is called a 'Suicide Knob' here in the USA. I think they have been outlawed here because they would break at the spindle on hard turns and the driver would be unable to gain control before hitting something. They were handy but not reliable. BTW great van! My wife and I just pruchased our extended hightop and found your site looking for ideas. thanks

Hi Andras. I made the shower tray with marine plywood and then coated it with 4 layers of marine varnish. I mostly shower outdoors, so this works for me.
Hi Bruce, you've done a superb job with your van! Unbelievable what you fitted in there! I love the finishing on your cupboards, it looks very professional. Will you please share how you did that? Your backsplash is exactly what I am looking for! Did you buy that online? Would love to hear from you! We are in the beginning of our van build, in Perth. Enjoy your travels, might see you on the road.
Hi Elize. Thanks for the compliment. I made the cupboards from MDF and then painted them with waterbased enamel using a small sponge roller. It gives a great finish. I used a router to shamper the edged of the MDF. Also, I worked out the exact dimensions of the cupboards and I got Bunnings to cut the MDF to side (and exactly straight) as it makes the construction easier. I bought the backsplash online. They are a flexible and light vinyl sticker tile and you can find the range at TIC TAC TILES AUSTRALIA (just google them). As this is not my channel, it may be easier to message me through instagram on bruce_and_mika_in_oz and I will be very happy to answer any other questions. I can also let you know some good tricks about [1] how to join your cupboards together to get a very professional finish and [2] how to make a template to cut the timber to fit the curves of the van walls. Good luck with the van build. Thanks Bruce
Fly ingDutch yeah it’s not ideal, but he’s still got plenty of solar considering it’s only powering a few appliances. You’re defs right though, partial shading greatly reduces power generation
Hi FD. The solar panel is much larger than I need, but I did position it so that it was nor under the roof racks or things. Of course, the roof racks can cast shadows, but they are minimal. Also, I have a DC to DC charger connected, so the battery has always held up to my needs.
Great design and well thought out. Bravo Bruce! The shower pan inside the van is very smart. I like the open feel of your rig and the linear path front to back. You can get an Extend A Shower bar for back and hang a shower curtain on it. Put one on either side and voila! Privacy. All those little tables are such a good idea. And the magnet for the stove - genius. fyi - comment on the video - music was very annoying. Best to leave it out of van tours.

Alex Fraser. Thanks. I just used pine strips that I stained and vanished. Was hard work, but worth it. I did think about strip lights but actually I usually use the side wall lights mostly.
nice build. If doing these video's it would be nice to include details such as what model roof hatch that is and internal dimensions. I look at it and think, oh, yeah, I am considering something similar in my build, is that the roof hatch I saw etc etc and I can figure out by seeing one installed, if it really is the one for me. Similarly, when working with space, if i am considering such a layout, I can gauge the walk through space and ergonomics or anthropometrics of living with that, transferred to my build. With so many van build tours on youtube, it get's really boring when people just go..'look at it'. Similarly, include sounds. does the pump make a sound, do we notice the fan noise. Please tell a practical story.
Awesome build, really well thought out. Here's a tip: Hang the pump so it's not bolted to the wall and it'll be a million times quieter. That ceiling is amazing. The sky window is great too. I think the perfect combo would be one of them and a Maxxair fan. What type of wood is your shower tray slatted mat, and what is it coated with? Looks amazing! I did the same but with Cedar (waxed, although it should really be treated).
Hi ESV. Thanks for the tip on the pump. I think I will modify mine as the noise drives me nuts, sometimes. On the other hand, I can hear when my van-less mates jump in and help themselves to too much of my water !!! :) The ceiling was a lot of hard work, but makes for very cosy living especially with the well considered lighting plan. I have a super quiet fan inside and with the side window and ceiling window, I have more than enough ventilation. When I eventually travel outback or way up north, I may install a Maxxair fan. The shower slats are made from simple treated pine and they are stained and coated with about 5 layers of super high gloss yacht varnish. They have small nylon feet so they dont sit in water. Oh ... and thanks heaps for the compliment

Hi Z. I cant recall the exact measurements, but it is a high roof, medium wheel base Mercedes Sprinter. It can fit into a standard car spot with a small about of skill :)
What did he mean because the seats are side facing the only thing that you are allowed is lap belts? allowed by whom? Lap belts will kill you because they will cut your internal organs in half in a front end collision.
What makes him think that if you have a bed in the back, it Has to be permanent or even difficult to move out of your way. There’s a name for that kind of thinking it’s called confirmation bias.

How long is this van?
Not sure off the top of my head, but it is a standard medium wheel based Mercedes sprinter. So you can likely find out the exact measurements online. I know it fits in standard parking spots though. 😀
Hi Z. I cant recall the exact measurements, but it is a high roof, medium wheel base Mercedes Sprinter. It can fit into a standard car spot with a small about of skill :)
Any update?

What did he mean because the seats are side facing the only thing that you are allowed is lap belts? allowed by whom? Lap belts will kill you because they will cut your internal organs in half in a front end collision.

I always laugh when I see a P-trap in a van sink which is 100% of the time
What’s the alternative?

What makes him think that if you have a bed in the back, it Has to be permanent or even difficult to move out of your way. There’s a name for that kind of thinking it’s called confirmation bias.
A permanent bed at the back of the van is quite common. Definitely eats up a lot of interior space if it's not planned out properly.
