Sky to be fair the lightning spear would be the newest convenient weapon most people had at this point of the game unless you farmed like crazy for shards while allocating your stats appropriote to your weapons and use poison /fire resin. i quite enjoyed this fight. it beats all those wood grain ring users
Kendrick Jacob Logan honestly after someone in the subreddit suggest i find it pretty easy. because most of orenstiens attacks can be avoided by staying under his legs as long as you roll into them when he does. only thing you have to watch out for is the buttslam. if you manage your stanima right its no problem
i did that too. defeated smough first because i wanted the honour of fighting ornstein at his strongest. took me 4 tries to defeat them this way. in their defense, i did have a black knight sword +4. the damage it does to smough is mental.
I love the fact that when ornstein dies before being smashed by smough hammer his hand still moves a bit. Since smough is an executioner he executed ornstein basically because he was still alive.
Take Smough first and you get the Leo ring, making counter attacks with thrust weapons more powerful. Pretty useless if you ask me, found it out the hard way
First playthrough I killed Snorlax first, but in NG+ I'm trying to kill Pikachu first. It's kinda tougher this way because fatass keeps getting in the way, and spear boi is so fast.
If you kill Ornstein first, you get the Leo Ring, then after you kill Smough, you can buy his armor set from the merchant at that aqueduct next to Firelink Shrine. It's the best armor set in the whole game, even more so than Havel's Armor set.
Smexy Waluigi because he was using lightning against ornstein which is highly resistant to it but weak to fire , and used fire againest smough who is weak to lightning but not fire

Something about this fight makes it feel drenched in dread and eerieness. I am pretty close to reaching these two for the first time in my playthrough and I can't help but feel as if I'm about to face off against true legends, and god damn it's intimidating.

I just reached the bonfire near their fog wall, so I'm gunna finally face off with them tomorrow. Are there any special rewards after the fight depending on which one you kill last? I know you aren't talking to me, and i'm a bit late, but killing Orstein gives the most reward. You get the Leo ring, and his Soul is worth a lot more when you give it to Frampt. I also prefer his weapon, and his armor is much lighter. However, beating Ornstein second is much more difficult than beating Smough second. Ultimate Smough is a pushover, whereas Ultimate Ornstein is a badass.
Darth Vader but way shittier Nooo. Between these eyes and his long-necked part of helmet he has a cutouts for his eyes, like the usual knights'. It can be seen if you wear his armour in DS3

I think when Ornstein's health is gone you actually just knock him out. Ornstein was about to get up but then Smough thought he was dead and actually killed him and took his powers. So I think Smough hates Ornstein or something.
So I heard Ornstein is still alive during pre phase 2 death so I came to see this and lo and behold that indeed. Ornstein is still shifting and breathing but Smough is just a physcopath who smashes his head in for power. He's dying first for me again.

Gwyn's four knights were the most powerful and loyal warriors at gwyn's service, their leader was ornstein the dragonslayer, represented by the leo ring, who helped the lords on the war against the dragons so many years ago, slaying hundreds of the winged beasts. His other three fellow "four knights" were hawkeye gough who asisted the dragonslayer by shooting down the dragons, artorias and ciaran, ornstein was their captain. As all the knights perished over time, and the flame was kindled by his lord gwyn, ornstein survived and was ordered to guard princess gwynevere's room, not knowing he would be protecting an illusion created by gwyn's younger son gwyndolin and was just another obstacle for the chosen undead to overcome and prove worthy of continuing the prophecy, but he wasn't defending "gwynevere" alone. Smough was and executioner who laked any kind of honor and was known for eating the corpses of the people he executed, he enjoyed sadically the executions, this is why he wasn't accepted as one of the four knights that he wished to join, for his lack of honor clashed with the inmense honor the knights possesed. But after the flame was kindled by gwyn and the all the four knights, except for their captain ornstein, perished, the only warrior still alive with the power to accompany ornstein in the defense of gwynevere' room was smough himself.

Of all DS bosses I'm dreading right now, its these two. Trying to get my character at least SOMEWHAT able to take on the enemies, found Astora's greatsword. But these two, I'm nowhere near the level they'll be on but I'm already having nightmares about taking them on. As if a huge ass Lightning Knight wasn't enough, his friend is a behemoth wielding the greathammer of you'll be flat as a pancake when I'm through with you.
How the fuck does this look that easy ? at 00:30 when he gets hit by BOTH OF THEM at the same time he loses 15% hp. Any boss of DS3 eats half my life if he touch me and I'm playing Knight. Wtf is going on here

PetrushT3 fight against them in the game trust me, it took me over 3 days to complete this, come back and tell me how easy it is to kill them in your playthrough, if you say now "it was piss easy" then i will assume your lying, oh and in dark souls 3 have you even got to vordt of the boreal valley? aka first real boss... or second if you count the tutorial boss judex gundyr. vordt will kill you in like 2 -3 hits if you haven't leveled up.
For all that are stuck. this is a great way of beating the legendary duo. Try using the speedrunsrat. Take thief as your class you get 2 additional gifts. Beat the asylum, run through drake valley and get near dark root garden, try to get black knight halberd from him (this takes 4-5 times to succeed) but then you have about the best weapon in the game. Use all of your reinforcements to it that you can possibly get. Take no armour or very light armour. Dodging is more important than sustaining the damage. As you enter the fight prepare for the dodge as Ornstein approaches you with the dash. Move up a little and dodge to right just so close you can dodge. Lock onto him and get 2 hits in. Rest of the fight keep your eye on Smough and try to bait Smoughs attacks before trying to take on Ornstein. You can summon Solaire, but you'll feel double the times better as you take them on yourself. It took me around 6 times with this build. Only level up strenght and dexterity. Make sure you dual hand your Black Knight Halberd. Dodge attack (use the damn roll), don'y lock onto them because it makes it harder to dodge Ornteins deadly dash. Shields and heavy armor are practically useless unless you are strong enough to use heavy armour. If you are going to use a shield buy one from the Dephts right before Blighttown (the Crystal Shield). I hope you find use in this, I did it personally better because Black Knight Halberd has a great damage and range. Its r1 spam is great since you can stagger Ornstein. Don't use armor because it slows you down. It helps you when rolling out of the attacks and running around with nonlocked camera. I want to now do it again because with this build it adds a fair challenge that is very do-able.
for some reason I was able to beat these guys on the second try by killing Smough first,I really had no issue with super-Ornstein,then again I had trouble with some bosses who are considered easier
Agreed. The pacing of this game after Ornstein & Smough is really bad. Gwyn's part was alright, I guess, but Nito's, Seath's and BoC's zones are just really try-hard and rushed, in my opinion. This is what makes both Dark Souls II and III better than the original, to me.
This fight is not that hard if you follow some steps: -Summon Solaire -Upgraded magic/fire weapon -Upgraded Eagle Shield -Focus on attacking Ornstein first -Try to let Solaire distract Smough meanwhile -Once you fight Super Smough, try to hide behind the columns until he performs a move that leaves him vulnerable -Use fire orbs for distance attacks against Super Smough -Steel Ring of Protection is a must -Do not use lightning weapons -Use an armor that has high physical resistance (Havel's set works fine) -In order to farm some humanity, try the Depths rats with the ring you found in Sen's Fortress
If only I could be so grossly incandescent...Seriously, though, well done. It took me four tries before I downed the pair, and had Solaire and a companion who, honestly, did not attack all that often.

An underleveled weapon just lessens the room for error,an underleveled weapon and gear is extremely difficult,but one of the two is easy if you've already completed the game,well this is coming from someone who purposefully made his character weaker because cosplaying as artorias is always cool(first playthrough).
Every single time I get to these guys on the 360 version Ornstein always charges straight at me with the spear as soon as I'm through the fog gate and yet on this version he takes more time to approach you.
Played on PC and he would charge me too almost every time. Second time I fought them, I died as I didn't expect the charge, followed by a swipe and a bad roll on my part.
1:56 That music timing was perfect, with the part of Ornstein touching while you're cool, getting some damage and then Smough smashes you and touches his part, like if the dead has come
it would be great if there collateral damage involved, my god, both are always to close to each other and their attacks simply pass right through each other
Honestly, I don't even know if it's only me, but this fight wasn't even that hard to me, it still took me a bit of time and it was one of the best ones I had yet, but I quickly learned their movesets. I beat it on my very first try with an almost full bottle of Estus, a Black Knight Greatsword +3 and Havel armor.
I'd love for ornstein and smooth to return in possibly a DLC for Dark Souls 3, and both of them, but maybe change it so they are fiery versions, or the souls of ornstein and smough
So I fought these guy not knowing about the second phase. I thought they where like the gargoyles and lowered both their Heath bars to a tiny one hit notch. So once I killed one I could kill the other in a flash. Boy was I wrong. Still won though.

I always fight them with Soul Arrows, a +10 Demon's Greataxe, and Havel's Greatshield, while wearing the Stone Armor Set. Best combination by far.

I Just realized that Smough has two little eye shaped holes in the bottom of his helmet, and doesn't actually have an extremly long neck.

Of all DS bosses I'm dreading right now, its these two. Trying to get my character at least SOMEWHAT able to take on the enemies, found Astora's greatsword.
But these two, I'm nowhere near the level they'll be on but I'm already having nightmares about taking them on. As if a huge ass Lightning Knight wasn't enough, his friend is a behemoth wielding the greathammer of you'll be flat as a pancake when I'm through with you.

I had this attitude at first too but in the end in this game you can end up killing a giant hydra with a knife no problem.

thats ds 1 and that armor has one of the most physical resistance you can get . late game ds3 heavy armors have the same result!

fight against them in the game trust me, it took me over 3 days to complete this, come back and tell me how easy it is to kill them in your playthrough, if you say now "it was piss easy" then i will assume your lying, oh and in dark souls 3 have you even got to vordt of the boreal valley? aka first real boss... or second if you count the tutorial boss judex gundyr. vordt will kill you in like 2 -3 hits if you haven't leveled up.
Beat the Nameless King in 5 tries, Princes in 4 and Soul of Cinder in 7 or 8. I'm fine about DS3 brother lol

For all that are stuck. this is a great way of beating the legendary duo.
Try using the speedrunsrat.
Take thief as your class you get 2 additional gifts. Beat the asylum, run through drake valley and get near dark root garden, try to get black knight halberd from him (this takes 4-5 times to succeed) but then you have about the best weapon in the game. Use all of your reinforcements to it that you can possibly get. Take no armour or very light armour. Dodging is more important than sustaining the damage. As you enter the fight prepare for the dodge as Ornstein approaches you with the dash. Move up a little and dodge to right just so close you can dodge. Lock onto him and get 2 hits in. Rest of the fight keep your eye on Smough and try to bait Smoughs attacks before trying to take on Ornstein. You can summon Solaire, but you'll feel double the times better as you take them on yourself. It took me around 6 times with this build. Only level up strenght and dexterity. Make sure you dual hand your Black Knight Halberd. Dodge attack (use the damn roll), don'y lock onto them because it makes it harder to dodge Ornteins deadly dash. Shields and heavy armor are practically useless unless you are strong enough to use heavy armour. If you are going to use a shield buy one from the Dephts right before Blighttown (the Crystal Shield). I hope you find use in this, I did it personally better because Black Knight Halberd has a great damage and range. Its r1 spam is great since you can stagger Ornstein. Don't use armor because it slows you down. It helps you when rolling out of the attacks and running around with nonlocked camera. I want to now do it again because with this build it adds a fair challenge that is very do-able.
for some reason I was able to beat these guys on the second try by killing Smough first,I really had no issue with super-Ornstein,then again I had trouble with some bosses who are considered easier

Agreed. The pacing of this game after Ornstein & Smough is really bad. Gwyn's part was alright, I guess, but Nito's, Seath's and BoC's zones are just really try-hard and rushed, in my opinion. This is what makes both Dark Souls II and III better than the original, to me.

(in my own opinion) this is the hardest boss, btw I died more often of These guys as other bosses in this game.
They are really even, even earlier in the game there is harder bosses
Solaire makes this fight 10x easier.
Sharky McShark I tried with Solaire. He destroyed smough while I was keeping Ornstein occupied. Then Super Ornstein destroyed both of us.
Super Ornstein is a pain in the ass to kill. He kept glitching for me

This fight is not that hard if you follow some steps:
-Summon Solaire
-Upgraded magic/fire weapon
-Upgraded Eagle Shield
-Focus on attacking Ornstein first
-Try to let Solaire distract Smough meanwhile
-Once you fight Super Smough, try to hide behind the columns until he performs a move that leaves him vulnerable
-Use fire orbs for distance attacks against Super Smough
-Steel Ring of Protection is a must
-Do not use lightning weapons
-Use an armor that has high physical resistance (Havel's set works fine)
-In order to farm some humanity, try the Depths rats with the ring you found in Sen's Fortress

If only I could be so grossly incandescent...Seriously, though, well done. It took me four tries before I downed the pair, and had Solaire and a companion who, honestly, did not attack all that often.

An underleveled weapon just lessens the room for error,an underleveled weapon and gear is extremely difficult,but one of the two is easy if you've already completed the game,well this is coming from someone who purposefully made his character weaker because cosplaying as artorias is always cool(first playthrough).
Waterdoggo lmao, I was underleveled as shit when I fought artorias, just so I could get his armor early.

Every single time I get to these guys on the 360 version Ornstein always charges straight at me with the spear as soon as I'm through the fog gate and yet on this version he takes more time to approach you.
Played on PC and he would charge me too almost every time. Second time I fought them, I died as I didn't expect the charge, followed by a swipe and a bad roll on my part.
It's random.
He might charge at you, he might throw a lightning bolt at you, and even go slowly towards you

Honestly, I don't even know if it's only me, but this fight wasn't even that hard to me, it still took me a bit of time and it was one of the best ones I had yet, but I quickly learned their movesets. I beat it on my very first try with an almost full bottle of Estus, a Black Knight Greatsword +3 and Havel armor.

I'd love for ornstein and smooth to return in possibly a DLC for Dark Souls 3, and both of them, but maybe change it so they are fiery versions, or the souls of ornstein and smough

So I fought these guy not knowing about the second phase. I thought they where like the gargoyles and lowered both their Heath bars to a tiny one hit notch. So once I killed one I could kill the other in a flash. Boy was I wrong.
Still won though.
