This was probably the chillest and most insightfully useful tactic guide to this fight I’ve seen. You showed how to take your time and remain calm and how to bait the bosses and what they do. Id like seeing more guides like this.

If you just want to summon npcs you can play the game offline and don’t have to worry about invasions. Won’t be able to summon other players though either.
There's some scary people lurking around that place. Remember once, in the original ps3 version, I kept invading that frighful fella with the Gravelord sword, killed me nearly 6 times before I got him. You get invaded by one of those unprepared and you're done.

First time against O&S, I rolled away from Ornstein's initial charge, but bumped into a pillar I didn't know was there because of camera angle, took a hammer in the face and a spear in the back, and it was over. I lasted about 15 seconds. Moments like these are how we learn humility. =D

With all the videos i've watched to help me fight the bosses in the game, there's always this gamer who has this weapon that kills the boss in 3 hits. And i'm like, well this is not gonna work for me...
You can find a cristal halberd near the first Bonfire in anor londo, in case You need a better weapon

personally I would really love to have Ornstein’s Armor, but killing Smough first to face the super-sized Ornstein is like Salty Spitoon levels of tough X_x

I checked 5 of your remastered guides after 67 hours of playing and
they were always informational and not spoiling (you would say spoiler alert so kudos and PRAISE THE SUN) Thank you so much for doing these. So often I found myself not knowing where to go after defeating some boss.. the game really does not tell you what's next and it made me run between every bonfire for clues.
I know I'm late but this guide really helped on new game+ when I tried these guys solo
Fr first time I killed Ornstein first but I wanted he's armour so on ng+ it was almost as hard as artorias

Super Smough's AI is incredibly predictable at points. Most times, you can run at him, he'll jump at you, hit him, back off, repeat. Like you mentioned, the pillars also work wonders. Great video, man.

One thing I would like to add to the beginning of the video. In regards to the silver knights, once you've gone through Anor Londo but before killing O&S, spend like an hour just practicing parrying the silver knights. Once you're able to parry those fuckers consistently black/silver knights are a cakewalk even at SL1.
I came *S O C L O S E* to beating Smough, and then before I could heal, recover or anything, he just started spamming the attack where you go 15 ft in the air, and he was at a QuaRter HEAlth
I can’t get by the first phase because Ornstein keeps spamming lightning spear and Smough keeps using his charging attack.
This is the worst fight in the game. Smough can so easily one-shot you and spam all those attacks with no sort of cooldown. In fact, neither of them have any cooldown or stamina limitation and it's completely unfair and not even a little bit fun
file_not_found i just use a glitch that lets me skip the first phase makes it slightly more fair.

I am using the black knight halberd which actually might be your solution to the blacksmith problem. All of the black knights in the game have a chance to drop their weapon although they don’t respawn so you only have one shot at each one. The black knight weapons however are all very good and reach max upgrade at +5 because they take twinkling titanite instead of the regular stuff. I’m sure you can find a resource online with the black knight locations but at 11:00 in my top 5 weapons video I show the locations of the first 3 you encounter in the game.

Holy crap! I watched your playthrough before I fought them, then I fought them without solitaire and won on my first attempt! Literally a life saver. GOD BLESS!
Why on earth is Smough never charging at you like he is with me
The trick to winning Dark Souls basically boils down to RNG and cheese
The thing that did it for me was equipping light armor for the fast rolls, made it a lot easier to dodge and get away in general.
Some tips for going for Ornstein's armor:
1st phase Smough is pretty weak to bleed. Not only helpful in chunking his health pool, but will also stagger him. Managing Ornstein is the challenge though, you will either want to kite him away from Smough and put some pillars in between you and him, or just put Smough in between you and him and have them both close, so Ornstein doesn't do his crazy zip lunge. Ornstein can still hit you through Smough's body though, so that's annoying. But still, a fairly quick way to get through to the harder part - Super Ornstein.
Super Ornstein's butt slam has a smaller aoe, which is nice since that tends to oneshot you.
He can be poisoned, and toxified, but it'll take forever to tick through his health, and he's usually not going to stand in place while you aim your poison/toxic. He can also be bled, but his resistances are higher, and you generally won't have long enough windows to build up bleed quickly enough. Chances are, if you are at a point where you can get bleed hits on him regularly, you probably don't need help beating him.
He's like a speedier iron Golem, you'll find yourself running around his legs a lot, and lock on can be your enemy, same as the golem fight. The attack where he spears you into the air, and the booty slam are the main killers, it's best to just go in for single hits, circle for maybe one more, and then dodge back out. If you're continually dancing around his legs chances are you will get caught by one of those two attacks, especially because his spearing attack has incredible tracking, and if you're near his legs, you probably won't be able to see it coming.

Toughest bosses in the game by far, so far. It's been a long time since I struggled so much with a boss.
On about my 10th attempt, I got literally within a whisker of victory, but died.
It took me about another 25 attempts before I finally-FINALLY-beat these two.
No matter what, never give up.
I’m in O & S hell right now, getting caught through pillars, through each other. I guess I’m not good enough to take them on yet.
You’re good enough. I hope you got through it. If not, keep revisiting it and just “play” with them. Take out any pressure to beat them the first round and just get a feel for them. I had to accept doing a one for one hit with Ornstein. Wasn’t quick enough to get in and out like tutorial. This inevitably got me in a pinch and killed quite a few times, but enough times I could escape and heal while walking away. Snorlax is easyish the second half. Just dodge to the side of him so you have time to hit.
Ive ligit spent 2 and a half days and only got to stage 2 twice
341 hits in one shot! Holy Moly! I think it's time for me to leave this fight for a while. The very most I am getting is maybe just over 100. I need to go back to the earlier stages and level up a bit
I'm having to do the same thing. Hopefully, I can fine a decent way to farm souls cause my plan it to use the Areatsword of Artorias, the only problem is I'm 22 levels short
@@renotS_tahT-024 A good spot to farm souls is in the Darkroot garden. I farmed there for a while and made sure I had a quicker and better weapon once I went back to the bosses. I still think I got a bit lucky. Can't quite remember how I did it but I killed Ornstein first. Then dealing with Smough was easier as I was able to circle around the pillars to keep him at a distance. I tried doing it the other way around but I found Ornstein on his own very difficult.

At 3:17, I can not tell you guys enough just how right he is. I went into a few boss fights before with like 10 humanity and fire or lightning power ups, and died before the boss got to even half health. By second or third time I fought the bosses, I without help from npcs or power ups, beat the bosses. Please do as he says here if you are new player such as myself.
Other than not knowing how poise works, this Is a great video. The stagger isn't based on how much damage you do, it's based on the poise break of your weapon. For instance, two great combustions will stagger Mega smough, no matter how much damage they do.
semi awesomatic This is true, and admittedly I phrased it wrong and glossed over the topic too quickly. But the point I meant to make was that its helpful to figure out where the poise break is on your weapon by taking note of how many times you have to hit the boss to stagger them. I didn’t explain the poise “damage” of weapons since you can’t actually check that stat in game (even though it does exist) and trying to explain invisible weapon stats to new players warrants a separate video. Had I not killed Ornstein in 4 or 5 hits I would have explained that more haha.
“If you’re at this point in the game, you know what a Silver Knight Archer is and you probably hate them”
The Anor Londo archers are what caused my to drop my first play through of Dark Souls. Just getting back into it now. Already beat O&S and managed to get past Archers on my 3rd try, but man do they suck.
I realised the part of the archers is actually easy to pass: just roll and roll towards then, do not try to defend with the shield. When you get to one of them, then parry their attacks and then riposte. I did this and it turned out to be so easy. You only have to be good at this parry and riposte thing. (I died like crazy before realising this)
O and S are definitely the hardest boss in the game. A pretty good way to beat them is to go in wearing the full silver knight set minus the sword, the crystal halberd and havels ring. Make sure to keep both O and S in front of you. Wait until ornstein attacks you then block him and get a hit in. After that run off and repeat until the fight ends. You should probably circle round the arena well you wait for the attack. Smough should not be a problem if you only get in one jab each time but if he does get close just roll around his moves and get back. One last thing is you cant block ornsteins lightning tosh or the large dash move so just dodge them. Once ornstein is dead suped up smough is pretty easy. Just watch out for the ass stomp move and only go for hits after he slams his hammer down. Good luck with these to assholes.
I was having so much trouble managing both bosses at the same time. I just couldn't find an opening. For me, the strat that finally worked was heavy armor, havel's ring for medium roll, black knight sword, black knight shield and iron flesh. As soon as the battle started, I cast iron flesh on myself, took Ornstien's charge to the shield and then face tanked him. It is crude, but he was dead before Smough could even cross the arena. After that, heal back to full and do the dance with Super Smough.

I just took them down on only my second attempt, with Solaire as backup (he died during the fight, but bade it through stage one). The first attempt was at level ~60, and I was killed within 10 seconds. I started farming souls and chunks from the knights.. sentinels, silver and the two royal guard knights. I did this until I had raised to level 90, and upgraded the Quelag Furysword to +4. Man, when I went in there, I beat Ornstein down in three contacts (times I was able to start swinging as much as I could) . Now I focussed on "super smough" and just destroyed him. It wasn't even fair. I went in with 17 estus flasks, and had 14 left when the fight ended (only one f. keeper soul). I was wearing +1 Silver Knight armor, and the lightning attacks, even super smoughs hammer were barely hurting me. I wish I recorded both fights, because they were complete opposites. If you want a challenge, use a non-boss weapon at level~50. If you want to beat the living souls out of these two, do as I did. The people saying they're weak to fire are true. *Both* of them were destroyed with it.
I took them out on my first try in my first playthrough without any prep time and fount it pretty easy, dont know why people struggle so much

Get video! It's still helping people to this day, the only attack I was having a really hard time with was the scoop attack you were trying to bait later on in the video, for some reason I can dodge everything but that and it does a crap ton of damage and throws me out of rhythm when he connects with it. Anyway, thanks for the video and I like how you injected a bit of lore into it, super interesting!
For my the most useful part was when he pointed out the second blacksmith.
It's nice that this guide goes to all of the classes. For example, I am heavy knight with qulaags fury, that can't roll normally, and it works!
Keeping both of them in the frame is key I think.You start panicking when you lose sight of one or both.

Ironic that this is without a doubt the hardest boss in the entire series, considering bosses like Malenia, Isshin, The Orphan and Nameless King despite the fact that it’s one of the simplest

Super Ornstein is deceptively easy. IMO much easier than his first phase, because he doesn't move nearly as quickly and you can neutralize virtually all of his attacks by standing between his legs.

Let’s go baby, just beat Ornstein and Smough on my first try. That was fun, that’s what a gank fight is supposed to be like. Patience is key in this fight, I was using a black knight sword, circling around and getting in one hit at a time. I wish I would’ve killed smough first because I don’t want smough’s gear.

If you’re stuck due to a low damage weapon, go grab the crystal halberd from one of the chests guarded by sentinels in the rooms by the first anor londo bonfire. One of them is a mimic though so be careful
You think a great club +5 that does 202 is enough? Just before I go find the halberd I’ve gotten close but that buttbomb of lighting murders me you also taught me don’t panic roll😭😭
I would definitely recommend +10. Have you been to the depths to get the large ember and given it to the blacksmith? The crystal halberd is equivalent to a +10 halberd in terms of upgrade level.

I was trying to kill them at the same time but accidentally killed the small one with few greatsword swings and the big un didn't last much longer even going all lightning

I know it’s goes against recommendation but I play a very balanced character and attempted magic projectiles which were either dodged or Smough would literally charge with his hammer effectively blocking my spell. After getting destroyed I switched to a bait and Slash and took out Orenstien first. This battle will test your resolve and patience especially when they coordinate their attacks.
I’m certain but a fire weapon is ornsteins weakness and bleed damage is smough, correct me if I’m wrong.
i would’ve beaten these guys first try but the last hit i needed to land didn’t hit them for some reason, thanks for the advice

I always have trouble fighting multiple bosses (Maneater, Gargoyles) but this fight took the cake, I had to retry so many times. I finally did it with lots of patience, as a Cleric with no summons
Some tips I found were:
using the rare blacksmith on the upper floor to boost gear past +5
Smough is very weak to lightning damage, so buff your weapon or use lightning spears
Don't lock-on target them, and kill Ornstein first, if you can
use a 100% physical def shield
upgrade your flasks, the longer the fight the better your chances
when Smough is running towards you to swing, dodge roll into him or to his side
circle any one pillar continuously to avoid Ornstein rush attacks
always double dodge roll to avoid the lightning butt slam

Should I use a lightning winged spear +5 for this boss or does your weapon make it easier?
Also what armor do you use and what level is it?
My weapon is definitely better but it takes some rng to get. Smough is weak to lightning in phase 1 and slightly less weak in phase 2 while ornstein resists lightning all around. They’re both weak to fire. If the lightning spear is your only choice I would focus ornstein in phase 1 to make phase 2 a lot easier. Armor is the black leather set, I never bother upgrading armor so its default. Just wear it because it’s lightweight
The Ghost Initiative okay thanks, would it be rude to ask what your stats are so I know what I need to get to? Currently I have 20 vitality, 10 attunement, 20 endurance, 23 strength, 22 dexterity, 13 resistance, 15 imtelligence, and 11 faith. Im level 53 atm
I heard that I should focus on endurance and dexterity since I’m using a spear but not sure
Endurance just affects stamina and how much weight you can carry, more is always better but it doesn’t affect the spear directly. The lightning infusion cancels out stat scaling so your stats won’t actually affect the damage of the spear. If it wasn’t lightning infused then yes dexterity would be a good bet. Doesn’t actually matter in this case though
Uhh can you make a tutorial not using the most op weapon in the game? I have tried to get it and gave up. Too much rng
Don’t give up on it. The fight is the same no matter how long or short it ends up being which makes the weapon choice irrelevant. If you have been summoning solaire, try the fight solo so the boss has less health. If you haven’t tried summoning, give that a shot. An extra person in the room helps separate the bosses.
Try mixing up your strategy if the current one isn’t working for you. If you’re wearing heavy armor or trying to block a lot, try wearing light armor and ditching the shield to learn the dodge timings. If that’s what you have been doing then give blocking a try. Just remember to use the pillars to keep them separated and focus all of your damage on one or the other. One will always heal to full health in phase 2 so damaging both is a waste of time.
The Ghost Initiative oh the weapon sure matters lol. Most of us have weapons far weaker than what youre using here, and when it takes you 5x longer than this to defeat one of them, your odds of getting hit and running out of estus goes wayyyyy up.
Yeah sure, but it’s not like the boss pulls out special moves after 5 minutes. The fight is the same from start to finish.

My strat for DS Remastered: beat Ornstein first, then keep Smough stuck behind a pillar, it’s pretty easy. He will run towards you but won’t be able due to the pillar. Attack him with R2 right after he jumps trying to smash you
Lol that’s what I did. I had him behind a pillar the whole time and whenever he landed his attack from jumping to slam his hammer on the ground I would go in and get 1-2 hits on him. Then I would immediately go back behind the pillar. It was a cheap strat but I didn’t care I was tired of fighting them
Just beat them for the first time on NG... The key for me was summoning Solaire as a distraction while I spammed pyro on Smough... Then for super ornstein I just stayed as close as possible, taking 1 R1 attack at a time and only rolling away if he started the butt stomp attack... Before this I was staying too far away and kept getting killed by the stab and slam attack that would almost 1-shot me
What level was your weapon? And your strength?
Not to flex or anything, but I beat these guys on my first try by separating ornstien, then just playing wait and bait with super smough from behind a pillar. Got me down my estus and I used humanity to heal. Most grueling 6 minutes of my life.

What kind of weapon are you using? I've been using drakesword since the beginning and the only weapons I know that have better base damage are the Black Knight weapons, and I don't have enough strength for that.
I’m using a black knight halberd, black knight weapons are worth the stat investment to be honest. Drake sword isn’t worth using past the first couple of zones because its too hard to upgrade. It might have high base damage but upgrading a weapon that scales off of your stats will result in more damage

Right now I’m using one you get in the catacombs- I forgot it’s name. The one you find when you go into the tomb and get into the covenant. It’s only plus one and I couldn’t find a black smith in this area so thank you for that!
Cheese Ornstein with 6-7 Great Soul Arrow (some miss), after cheese Smough with whatever other offensive spell, easy.
You know you can snipe that Royal Sentinel from the stairs? He doesn't even move, let alone agro! I use poison arrows & he dies from poison relatively quickly. In your opinion should I leave the Image of Gwynevere alive, and join her covenant? I have a Faith/Strength build. And think the Ring of the Princess would help boost my miracles(Lightening Spear, Heal, etc.)
You would be better off with the ring of the sun’s first born which directly boosts miracle damage. The princess ring only boosts miracles that are eligible for “miracle synergy” and the only offensive miracles that can be boosted are force, emit force, and wrath of the gods…otherwise it’s all healing miracles.

I did it like lvl 45-50, 400-600 damage per swing with upgraded black knights greatsword

Funny thing is these guys are actually easy for me. Upgraded my claymore to raw 3 and put on a few swings with great magic weapon spell enhanced they died. Took me a few tries to defeat them. Always go for the Smough first. U dont want to get that guy bigger when Ornstein is killed
Problem is like me who beat the game 2 times already, I use the zweihander and orstein fucking dodges my attacks every time.
Then I get nae nae’d by a hammer.
After defeat this Boses you get a Big reward, just get on of the elevator and go up and seek hapiness.

Some advice for people struggling with this boss..I spent some time upgrading strength and endurance, wore Havels armor, ring and used Black Knight Great Sword + 5 and made chump change out of Ornstein and Smough
I managed to kill 2nd phase Smough by making him smash his hammer down while he's behind a pillar and then using zweihander heavy attack to hit him once making him stagger for a bit letting me walk away I ended up killing him with 10% hp left

They behave much more aggressive on nintendo switch version and can't get anywhere near beating them. What do I do, npc summon keeps dying
Try it without the npc as they’ll have half as much health. Just keep kiting them around the room and using the pillars to keep them at bay. Everytime they get separated chip away at the health bar. I promise its exactly the same on the switch, just keep at it.
@@TheGhostInitiative Did not know about the half health.... Thanks for confirming its the same on switch an I'll keep trying solo after giving it a rest for a week.. Sometimes that helps.....
@@TheGhostInitiative beat them after a weeks brsak. I persevered wi solaire after few solo tries an he didn't die one time which is when victory was achieved...

Honestly just slipped my mind that I couldn’t go back to it (or gwyndolin the other one I skipped) after killing gwyn. Sometimes forget you go straight to ng+ the second the final boss dies in this one.
