But after then he meditated for another 49 days. And probably 40 years before that, but not under that tree. I still draw the parallel though.

    "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!" Lauren, your work is unmatched. Words can't explain just how bad ass this video was. The artistry is great, but, man, great job on that music! I would be most interested in the time before and after the books, of course.....and who knows when that was, now. However, if the books did take place in the Third age, I think it would be neat to see what life had become in the 6th or 7th age, and how much the world had progressed/regressed, and if they even would remember the stories about Rand.

  • @InvisibleTower
    @InvisibleTower 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I read two interesting theories about the Wheel recently that this puts me in mind of. First is that, because it's been spinning forever and always will be (Dark one notwithstanding), at the moment of its creation it had already existed forever, implying that the creation of the Wheel was also the creation of time as we know it and the Creator sits outside of that. If you can bend your head round it, it neatly solves the problem of when exactly the moment of creation was in relation to the Wheel.
    Second was a neat idea that the turning of the Wheel only covers human history, and in a weird sort of quantum way only exists when there are humans there to observe it. This is a neat solution if you don't like the idea of one age being 100 trillion years long to account for the heat death of the universe.

  • @davidplowman6149

    I think you nailed it when pointing out we don’t really know what age WoT is set in. We are supposed to believe it is really the Third Age, but are never given a why. The only conclusive evidence for this belief is people remember the Age of Legands and that their was an age before it. That would make three known ages. Actually, there is one more piece. People remember their was a creation. This supposes the creation was the first age. Which brings me to another thought I had.
    Is time a product of the Wheel and the Pattern and what does that mean? We know the Wheel is an eternal cycle. We know there are neither beginnings or endings. The creation was not the beginning. It was a beginning. For those in the pattern time goes forward and backwards to infinity. I think the creator exists outside time and so basically exists at all points of time at once, but that’s just a personal thought that makes sense to me.

    Congrats! Very nice work! Say, it's been a while since I read the books but, when you say that portal stones are from an age before the second age, so the first or something before the first, but if I recall correctly you need to chanel into the stone, and the event that triggers the change of the age to the second age it's the discovery of the source and channeling. So what? Portal stones are from a previous turn of the wheel?.sorry for the long post haha, very good job!

      @UnravelingthePattern  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good thoughts! No worries for the long post. I love the communication and engagement! I wonder if maybe the Portal Stones did not originally require the One Power, but some technological way of being activated? This is part of what can be confusing about trying to fit in the fragments of what we know and make them work within our current history. Maybe the First Age won't end for another 1000 years from our current time in history? It's fun to speculate!

    Excellent video. The Mercedes-Benz radiator ornament is actually something I've been thinking about quite a lot. I really do wonder if they're actually going to show it in the TV series as that would be so much more on the nose than it is in the book. I'd wager that many readers didn't even pick up on the fact that the object Robert Jordan was describing was an actual Mercedes-Benz logo, despite the accurate description of its shape and the added "from ten paces she could sense pride and vanity" part. Part of me really wants to see how new fans that never read the books react to that. :)

    RJ in an interview has mentioned that the cyclical nature of the wheel is inspired from Hindu mythology. If that's his source of inspiration and he stayed close to that concept in his mind, then the moment of creation is within the cycle of ages, atleast thats my understanding of Hindu mythology

  • @scootskute
    @scootskute 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @4:40 the reboot is not so very likely as this implies it might be. Starting @9:40 you mention some minor spoilers that reference our time incorporated as wheel of time mythology. Combined with that, you could also mention all of the places that the WOT storyline is our mythology. Though made much after this video, Brandon and Dan have a podcast episode that details some of this. To see this, check out Intentionally Blank episode 27 and jump about 30 minutes in (or watch the whole thing if you like). Based off of the way both civilizations or timelines know if each other in their myths, a big reset is unlikely. Rather, a continuous flow from the seventh age to the first is implied.
    This video is nicely made and offers solid content. Well done.
    EDIT: fixed some auto-correct errors that used words that make no sense, and one spelling error that didn't get autocorrect. That teaches me to comment from my phone. Or maybe not. I'll probably keep doing it.

    In the books I remember the Forsaken ruminating multiple times about flying machines, sky scrapers, electricity, light bulbs, and several other things.
    I think light bulbs were a thing of their own time, but when they talked about flying machines and sky scrapers it seemed they were ruminating about something they found hard to believe. Comments were like “they supposedly had flying machines” or something, I’m not sure.

      @@UnravelingthePattern At the same time, I hope they don't go too far with that. Certain references would be cool, but I think it would be extremely cheesy if, for instance, a character found a smartphone buried somewhere and was like "What is this?" while brushing a layer of dust of its cracked surface. In other words, it should be subtle, and it should be realistic.

    Fantastic video, dude. I read most of the series decades ago and it's still my favorite Fantasy series. I love it's recenet resurgence thanks to the show. I think the show's fine. Different from the books... but fine.
    I think the Dark One and the Creator came into existence at the same time, and that the Dark One's "prison" was not really a prison but just the Dark One being left to exist outside of the Pattern that the Creator brought into being with the WoT. That probably pissed the DO off because everything that was 'happening' was happening in the Pattern. Nothing happened outside of it. Must've been boring.
    Hey maybe that's what 'The Bore' actually is - what exists outside of the Pattern is BORing. So the DO wants to influence what goes on in the Pattern but knows that if he becomes a part of the Pattern he'll lose his godhood and become vulnerable to death.

    Wow! So cool! Question though; if the Dark One is bound and doesn’t influence the world during the First Age, doesn’t that mean that the evil in our history can’t be blamed on the Dark One, but only on humanity itself?

    • @UnravelingthePattern
      @UnravelingthePattern  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so, yes! Although there are also other evil influences (such as Mordeth) throughout the Ages, so I suppose something else could be partially to blame. RJ hints that pride and hubris led to the fall/end of the First Age.

      @@UnravelingthePattern Yes! I often have thought about things like the Ages of gods in their Pantheons moving into this transitional period of monotheistic middle eastern heretical flux, the overlapping Eastern philosophical canon of Buddhism and spiritualism, Hinduism all butting up against ritualistic Nature worship and witchcraft... Tales of saints and occult spirits, vampires and other monsters. Now in the modern Age we have this rapid growth of science juxtaposed or maybe more accurately, diametrically opposed to the traditional cultural beliefs of the past desperately hanging onto a volatile society racing towards self destruction. When does the Power manifest in the wake of it all?

      @@artanastacio1569 Woah. You're blowing my mind over here. Awesome thoughts! I love the concept of people in the Third Age being the sources of our myths and us being the source of theirs. It makes me wonder what happens to cause the OP to be lost. Is it only used during the First-Fourth Ages? Or are there other times when it is used or discovered? I honestly thought the series would end with the "loss" of the OP.

    • @artanastacio1569
      @artanastacio1569 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@UnravelingthePattern I've mused about this subject on The Dusty Wheel discord. My take is that these OP will eventually become outlawed, regulated, licensed and eventually culled from humanity as a safeguard. After all, if there is no One Power then there are no Aes Sedai to stumble upon a new Bore. No power = no arrogance = no hubris, hence no apocalyptic war. It's like de-escalating nuclear proliferation.

But it was not only him, it was an entire society, and it led them to the Bore... so "now" the entire society must learn humility to avoid self-destruction... feeling any sense of "déjà-vu"? Lol *sigh*
