    In today's lesson, we check out an extremely important shred skill and secret to more creative shredding: string skipping! As always the tabs, guitar pro files, and practice backing tracks are online on my Patreon page: www.patreon.com/bernth

    Dude I love the giger Ibanez but I like you using this guitar better for the lessons. It's easier to see what's going on in the fretboard. That RG is sick! Great vid as always!. Thanks Bernth.

    Yes Yes! String-skipping is an amazing tool when used properly; really adds a unique taste as opposed to 16th-note triplets on adjacent strings!

    Not only the exercises help with the techniques but it also help in remembering the Em scales over the fretboard..
    :Done most of the Em exercises and side by side the improvisation is also getting more creative.

    Hi Bernth, It seems that I hear a lot of people talking about string skipping, and it seems that a lot of people have a lot of trouble with it. I don't notice myself, having a lot of trouble with it, I'm not sure why. Plus the way I hold my pick maybe a little different from some people!
    But when I do I just try to push on through, and focus more when I get to that part, and to remember that part is coming up!. To when I was watching you play it, and you angled your pick like that, it shortens the distance the pick has to travel to the next string, and like you said ensures the pick is up and out from the other string, so it can travel over the other strings! Yes, I can tell that I play much better when I use the metronome more often, and It's helping me to learn licks faster, and cleaner! Bernth, I like the gold top Ibanez with the maple neck, it is a little easier to follow along, than the H.R. Giger Ibanez, but thats an awesome guitar too, in it's on right! I've always liked his bizarre and fascinating work, especially his bio-mechanical art work!
    Okay, thanks again!
    See you soon, but not to soon.
    Todd P./USA
    p.s. stay clean and stay safe, to every one!

      I do a lot of slanted picking and planting for an easier time with that. Specially if I'm going to go from skipping to sweeps. Adds s lot of rhythmic dynamic as well.

    Thanks for the lesson! I've been working on this a bit.
    I wanted to mention: Have you seen Steve Morse's pick holding? I watched a Trey Gowdy (sp?) video on Morse, Steve holds his pick like he is writing with a tiny piece of pencil lead. By using his pointer finger like this, you get ridiculous control over your alternate picking. When trying it out a little, I noticed a huge jump in control of alternate picking. Check it out if you wish. Nobody uses this technique and rarely do folk have Steve's speed and control.

    • @Bernthguitar
      @Bernthguitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Timmy, yes I watched that video! Crazy how this technique allows Steve to pick arpeggios like that. Troy does an amazing job analyzing all those different picking techniques, one of my favorite channels ever on here :)

    Brother, the funny thing is, I leaned to do string skipped alternate arpeggios before even sweeps lol. Blame Steve Morse, Petrucci and Kiko for that. I actually struggled a bit with the sweeps when it came to the "sweeping pattern" (the horizontal not the vertical box inside the scale). Metronome helps a lot with string skipped specially because it's usually a syncopated sound almost.

    I'm annoyed that you play full speed in a tutorial. Play slower because we're learning here? Your visual representation doesn't show anything but a cluster fuck of finger movements. May as well post just the tabs and sheet music because you playing it full speed doesn't tell me anything at all.

  • @ulfurkjalkur5165

    This seems like a good tutorial but it’s not beginner friendly at all 💀

    • @ichiGD
      @ichiGD 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is not a beginner technique. I'm personally looking at this because I'm have trouble cleaning up the beginning of fuzz universe by Paul gilbert, a very advanced song. You need to already have a pretty good understanding of the guitar to be learning something like this. Thats not to say that u can't use this still but it's most likely geared towards high intermediate and advanced guitarists looking to perfect this technique.
