- Today we check out one of my current most effective shred exercises ever - here we combine alternate picking, sweep picking and music theory in just one workout! We look at the concept of combining scales with arpeggios (big one on the Patreon wishlist) and also include some challenges for our technique to make it more interesting :)

BERNTH please when you find the time do a live stream so people like myself can drill you for questions. One of my questions would be how are you mixing your guitars and drums, what volume level do you stay within for initial recordings? 🤘🍻
bernth is the greatest music teacher we have today, we’re blessed to have a such a humble and passionate leader thank you bernth
Dude, you are one of the best teachers on youtube, hands down. Thanks for taking the time to help us! I dont think you realize how much you help guitar players like me that are stuck between just jamming and really being to play and understand the instrument. Truly invaluable. Keep up the good work sir.
Wonderful work, Bernth. Subscribed to Patreon as well. Real good, patient explanations, connecting to context, structured, no "showing off your noodling" as common to many other guitar teachers. Please keep up the good work.
Servus Bernth, also ich spiel seit 25 Jahren Gitarre, und hab schon so einiges gesehen, aber das ist mit Abstand der genialste guitar-hack der mir jemals untergekommen is. Hammer! Danke!!
Wonderful video, been practicing this for all of ten minutes and already making huge improvement. Extremely helpful, thank you!
For those struggling with modes if you know the inversions of the diatonic Major/ Ionian mode you already know your modes. I figured this out when I was learning modes and noticed I knew all the shapes. Billy Sheehan also noticed this when asked about modes he says oh modes you just start in a different place. The pattern he uses here is the 4th inversion of the Major / Ionian mode. You just play that on 8th fret instead of the 13th fret as you would in C major. The inversions still go in the same order. Newbies don't let the terminology daunt you as you will all notice that what ever mode the scale shapes are the 7 inversions of the Major scale. Another learning tip is to name each inversion after a mode so you instantly know what pattern to start with. I'm here because you are always looking to gain knowledge by seeing how other people do it.
This is really awesome! I know scales but I dont know how to pick out different arpeggios within the scale. I'd love to see more of exactly what you did in this video, but with other arpeggios in other scales and their names. This is great stuff!
thanks for the lesson bernth i've been lesson a lot of your video it give me so much energy back for practise guitar again🙂
I like you sir...your guitar playing is my favourite. ..your lessons help me from lot of my problem...Thank you sir
Such a beast. When I’m settled in on my new job, I’m buying your 10 steps to modern shredding!🤘🏻
Yes! Just what I've been looking for.
Cheers Bernth:)
I'm always challenged by your lesson. Thats pretty good! 🤩🙏
I just thought of this last night thinking about this form of practice but not able to do it for real, but this video and how it shows the notes reaffirms that it works. Great video! Great theory and practice. Great example great teacher! One of the best, from what I have seen. Your are definitely one of the top educators on guitar., and still so young. Cheers!... Thanks Man!
Exactly the ticket. You should be able to envision the triad or arpeggio if its a major mode major scale
Hi! Thank you so much. Your videos are great. But I need some application methods as well with this lessons. So, it'd be great if you will add some application method of all your lessons in solos in future videos.
Thank you..this is very clear!
Very Informative lesson Bernth! I think not abiding by a strict ascending/descending patterns gives a strong feel of being really able to stretch out a sweep - will definitely apply this to other scales; C Lydian really not my thing xD
Well, that's pretty cool. Thanks!
4:20 it is snowing in your house.
Great exercises. .thanks!
Thanks man
Obrigado por compartilhar o conhecimento.
Im bad at theory, and I don’t understand 60% of what Bernth explain due to my low IQ music theory, but miraculously I always get to understand how to utilise his lesson differently.
Theory is everything from ACDC. Motzark it took me awhile. I enjoy teaching theory because its misunderstood. When you begin putting a bar chord to tonic that's theory in a basic way. Dude. I never thought I'd be able to fly around the fretboard but it happened. What changed things for me was. Richard Lloyd Alchemist guitarist. Writer for guitar world. Played in band television. A regular dude. He explains the invention of the guitar in Greece to Hendrix memorize theory of fret board.
That's why Bernth is so valuable. Once you memorize the major minor by heart through Richard Lloyd. This guy is the next level it gets easier
Now I just play you get tired of thinking. That's why we put in the work cause at heart we are all lazy and just wanna shred if I can do it anyone can. Quote from EVH rock on bernth. Set these guys straight lol
Same. I’ve been playing by ear for years and now that I’m finally trying to learn this stuff I want to murder myself
Great lesson 👍
hey Bernth, first of all love your all videos and I want to ask one thing,
can you please show how you approach playing in standing position? I'm feeling stuck now
love your lessons sir new subscriber here
BagandMusic 🤘
Du bist der Beste,danke!!!
Awesome, Just subscribed to your patreon last night after coming across you. Been playing guitar for over a decade and still never learned how to play. I'd consider myself an above average guitar "player" but a poor musician, if that makes sense. Hoping to remedy that by actually sitting down with your lessons.
Zappa-esque that C Lydian scale
Mano curti de mais esse seu vídeo , vou treinar esse exercício e praticar bastante, valeu like.
That's him there!
Nice bro
Just what I needed=))) how did you know?
How do you identify the "distinguishing" note of each mode ? thank you for this tutorial Bernth very helpful!
Lydian is just every note from F to E that is white. There are two half steps usually in a 7 note mode, but not so with Lydian, there is only one. If you wish to transpose it into any key, the fifth note is the half step.
So I checked out your website. For the $79 Skype lessons. Is that one hour a day, week, or 1 hour a month?
God damn I think I’ll just stick to playing by ear. This shit is like learning another language through ASL
Please make lesson on all the modes..
How about the other modes?
Yeah!!!
Yeahhhhhh✊
Frome INDONESIA 👍👍👍👍
🤘🔥
I suck at guitar, I’ve been playing for around 7 or 8 months and I just play rock and metal, and I realize I mess up a lot, but I don’t go back and change, and I feel like I really suck at guitar
Idk how to get better, I barely know any music theory
Focus on one song at a time, begin practicing at half of the original tempo, and gradually raise the tempo. Have patience and try to play daily
Αρτέμης alright thank you 🙏🏽
