Lol, i just bought a Nikon D80 with that "CCD Goodness In A Small Package" though in mind, as a replacement for my D200. This video was a nice coincidence for me!
In my often zealous quest for CCD cameras, and being a Nikon guy myself, I got a D80 and a D90 to compare the mighty CCD with the newish CMOS. I still prefer the CCD a bit more. Seems the tech in CCD was a little more refined at the time as far as image quality. You should check out the CCD ravings of Carmine Tavena on these here youtubes as he is a seasoned 50 year veteran of photography in New York. He often waxes poetic of CCD imagery and how it was origonally developed by Kodak as an alternative to film. So it mimics the qualities of Kodachrome. He also simply loves the art of photography.
Yeah it's fun to look at the technologies. Yeah I'll have to check that gentleman out! Definitely during that era the CCD had a pretty substantial amount of development in it where CMOS was still catching up. If I remember right the CMOS tech at this time did perform well specifically in some high iso applications at the time but the CCD had better DR and Color depth.
1. @5:27 Even though it came out later, the D80's Custom menu is the older linear numering style vs the D200's current nested alphanumeric style. 2. D200 is easier to back button focus (separate button, closer to thumb). 3. D200 can take a GPS unit, D80 can't. 4. D200 has a odd color mode (not on D80) that's a precursor to JPG color profiles. Seems only NX Studio (not Lr) can understand it.
Just order a Nikon D80 I should be getting it in a couple of days, I choose the D80 over the D200 for the smaller size. The D80 would be complementing my Nikon D3200 camera; also can I sugest you do a video about your watch collection on the background.
Nice! Hope you enjoy it! Haha I use to do watch videos but pivoted a way (look up Chris' Ticks). I still love my watches but my primary joy is repairing them rather than talking about em! Haha.
Yeah neither are that expensive but the D80 is just a good option for those looking for a lighter camera, but yeah I personally would choose the D200 over the D80.
Great comparison Mr.50mm, amazing video. The d80 is an amazing camera with beautiful output, the pictures and controls are top of the line.
I still use D3s, D810 and even D90 😊
Thanks for the nice comparison video. I remember coveting my friend's D80 back in the day when I had my first DSLR, the D70.
Thanks!
And how did the D80 compare to the D70?
Great video, toying with the D80 now I’m thinking about D200 😂
Haha both are excellent choices, really can't go wrong with either!

Ouu nice! Hopefully you enjoy it when it comes in!

D200 is pretty cheap on mpb, I got one for 49euros. I think they are close in price.

D80, d90, d200, d300, df750, d800E
Haha all good cameras!
That is one rusty Halifax class.
Haha, I prefer the term "converted to composite".
Lol. A budget D200 is a D200 in 2024. I got my D200 with 1,500 on the shutter for $100.
Haha, but it can get more budget. The D200 is awesome though!
