Im playing this game again because of bad gameplay and
now I must say that this is a lot better than the first run of this game.
I died few times, but still managed to complete it without gameover. -

This was easily one of the hardest megadrive games i ever owned....totally worth the grind

One of those few games with a perfect difficulty setting. Not too easy, not too hard. Loved it. Good stuff. It was a challenge, but ultimately doable and once you completed it you felt a sense of achievement.

I agree! Some people say the graphics aren't that great. They done lost their mind! Especially considering the cartridge size.

I just played the game on my old Mega Drive. It's kinda strange and spooky that Spengler has the shortest life bar of all characters in this game, and now Harold Ramis ist the first Ghostbusters' actor who died...

Pretty fun game! great graphics and good music. The ice stage music is funky!!.
Back in the day, I never got past the castle, and after watching this I'm noticing how useful the crouch feature is. I never used it.
this flower has a bug if you lie in the right place, then it will not hit you, that's how I passed it :D

Same here. I played it at my friends' house and I was the only one scared. The way the bosses look just give me the creeps, even today, no idea why exactly.

@@stuartives8412 Hmmm, Winston was removed due to either memory limitations (of the Sega Genesis /Megadrive cartridge) or maybe Ernie Hudson wasn't available to answer the call of the Ghostbusters/Spiritcatchers film/game series (video game that is). We have to realize that this title was released at a time when even major/giant media corporations couldn't pay or secure the rights to every available protagonist(s) --- honestly though, I am not trying to defend Sega ... because it was a pretty akward/weird decision not to include all the 4 or actually 5 (Rick Moranis even had a a chance to aid the original 4 Ghostbusters) members of the slime-time/hex-breaking quadruplet/quintet !

Winston might have or could have possibly worked behind the scenes and was most likely or probably instrumental in bringing about the 2009/2010 Gregorian/Julian calendar year reboot 3D action/rpg Ghostbusters revival electronic video-game IP ... at least in my honest opinion ! 🌍🌎🌏✌️💪🤗

Only thing I hate about this game is how whenever you pause it resets the music once you unpause. Made me pause less than I should have because I wanted to hear the music in full.
I wonder what the technical reason for that was, since most games around that time and before that game didn't do that.
I have hears alot of good things about this,even that it's the best ghostbusters game evermade.
I remember seeing a picture of this game in C&VG back in the day, I thought ' I want a Mega Drive ' lol.

They should do a game hack where Winston is added.
@spikeriley and because there are 3 characters, one fast but weak (Egon), another slow but tough (Raymond) and a third one balanced (Peter). There was (unluckily) no need for a fourth character, and Winston is the only one hired among the doctors (so no racism involved :p).

I was playing this game recently and the ladder won't come down fully (at 35:21) for me. It won't let me proceed to the next area to battle Stay Puft. I don't know why. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

@@aceq361 stuck with Venkman out of habit cause he was always my favorite as a kid. Might go back and try others, I know there’s a mod someone made where they finally put Winston into the game

It does remove the realism, but makes the game a fucking beast.

I've always been curious about the exclusion of Winston when it came to some of the Ghostbusters games. Can anyone help fill me in?
That’s because Winston was a minor character in the first movie, since his character served as extra help during the Ghosbusters rise and massive workload caused by Gozer during the second half of the movie. It wasn’t until the cartoon series and sequel where he had a more bigger role, hence why you’re able to play as him in the ghostbusters 2 games on NES/Famicom.
Racism of course. In all the game he is absent till the 2010 official sequel game.
Always thought this game was a prequel to the original movies. Which is why i thought it was the reason for Winston absence.
@@vivi44 He's playable in New Ghostbusters II on the NES and Game Boy, yeah in the NES version his skin is blue because of color limitations, but he's there.
Zakari Genshin [ZGenshin97] The reason is probably due to memory for the game. The game was released in 1990, serving as a sequel (like a 1.5) to the original, but before the second film, just like the cartoon.
That being said, it’s still screwed up, and Winston isn’t some minor character. He was just the Everyman played by a lesser known actor, sure, but the dude also defeated Zuul, just like the other dudes.
I never beat this game back in the day and now I'm stuck at the high-rise building. The ladder that's supposed to come down after the second ghost isn't working for some reason.
EDIT: Figured it out, somehow it worked after I used a continue
I’m stuck here too and I used several continues. It only comes down half way and it’s doing this on my genesis and analogue mega sg. I wonder if my cart is failing. It works sometimes but more often then not it doesn’t load the ladder. 😢

Never noticed the litte green guy on the snowman's head that gets mealted as well. Remember when I was a kid my friend had big trouble agains the plant boss and after finally defeating, only to meet it again right away in the cave level and get a game over. :P

This is an impressive movie tie in game especially for the time.
That's because it wasn't based on the movie haha. They always seemed to butcher those no matter what movie it was. The super star wars series for the SNES was pretty good though. Even though they were really tough.

That's some nonsense right there. Famitsu stated after a request to the developers that he wasn't included for balancing reasons. Three characters already covered that(fast but fragile - balanced - strong but slow).

Well, probably because the actors behind the main three characters (Peter, Ray, and Egon) have big-name actors behind them and Winston unfortunately didn't have anybody equally recognizable or iconic...unless you count The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, where Winston was voiced by Arsenio Hall.

Very tough game with unique sound effects. Only won the game 1 time. It's one of the better Ghostbusters games though even if you're mostly fighting ghost monsters instead of ghosts. The likeness to Bill Murray here is good.
The thunder sfx in the castle stage sounds broken, is that normal?
I know Winston and Janine are not in the game though both appeared in the movies and the 2009 video game.

There's one thing I don't get. When we kill a ghost boss, there's yet another ghost to catch. Wasn't the ghost boss enough?
With the minibosses? You have to have a "catch the ghost" moment somewhere in there.
Yes of course. But wouldn't it be alot better if the "catch ghosts" were stand alone? That way you'd have A) minibosses B) ghost catching and C) regular bosses!

This game was fantastic. Definitely had a good challenge to it. If only the NES version was as good as this one. Way to go, Sega. The only other good Ghostbusters game in my opinion is the 2009 release.
I agree. I prefer this one better though as the music (especially the mid-boss theme) is perfectly made for it.

I used to finish it too! Nice long game, no? I'm seeing in the suggestions that most are shorter and there are quite a few that are bigger but mostly they're shorter timed to finish.
I never gave this one an honest chance, but watching this makes me think I should. I do wonder what the deal is with the Chinese restaurant, though. This ain't Ghostbusters 2016!

This is my 3rd favorite. Slightly below new Ghostbusters 2. But both are way behind the 2009 Ghostbusters the video game. That game is a masterpiece.

My game glitched, when i defeated the Second ghost before the Mr.StayPuft figth the ladder Just come halfway and stoped for no reason
For all the effort it takes to win, the ending isn;t much of a payoff
With most all games back then it was more about the journey, not the destination. Overcoming the challenges was it's own payoff.

I can't sleep at night because of the music from level 1 and 2.
I remember this game came packed with some Sega Genesis consoles at least that's how I got mine, I remember the cartridge that contains the game is very heavy 16-bit cartridge. every kid I know when I talk to them told me the game is very hard, one of my friends have told me that I should play it as its a very cool game and there was this one time that I decided to play through the whole game on hard difficulty and I absolutely loved it, back then this game is one of my most favorite genesis game ever.
I really wish if they'll release it to modern platforms with trophies support and pack it with life improvement stuff like save state and all of that jazz, but sadly someone out there is preventing this from happening due to license issues to the IP, I believe Sony now own the Ghostbusters IP.

No! A giant hole opens in the middle of the city after the Ghostbusters put the stones in the tablet. All majors bosses of the earlier stages comes again, and in the end you finally fight the final boss : Janna, an evil goddess of death and destruction and beat the game. Is very hard, but is good. Good game!
