Today we'll take a look at the evolution of the hardest, most unfair Levels in 2D Super Mario Games. I hope you enjoy this new video and please comment your favorite difficult level! :)
For some, calling these levels unfair can be a bit subjective. Though most of the levels of Lost Levels and Tubular in Super Mario World are indeed unfair to me. I can beat them, sure, but I feel like an idiot when I flunk them. And for more recent 2D levels that are unfair, Pendulum Castle, or... something, in New Super Mario Bros. U, is unfair. Though some of these levels I've played, and I never had too tough a time on, except for the ones I mentioned. lol
@@ajsport31 9-8 from Mario U is actually difficult. 9-7 from Luigi U isn’t. The timing really isn’t that hard. And you can also take in a fire flower so you can take extra hits. Or better yet, a fire flower and a star.

I don’t think it really illustrates the unfairness of 8-3 very well when you start with Fire Mario, though I guess doing so doesn’t make the last few jumps any easier.
It's pretty reliable to just jump over them, although the only way I'm confident I'll defo get through the level is if I have a couple lives. So if merely having a bit of luck involved in deciding whether you die or not qualifies as unfair, then I agree it's unfair.
Some of these levels can be made easier. Getting a fire flower before entering world 8-3. Using Peach in world 5-1 Use a P-Wing on the airship. Using blue Yoshi on Tubular. Just jump with him until you reach a koopa, then fly through the rest of the level. Wario’s Castle before entering, press the select button on the file select screen to make it so much easier.
That player who provided the gameplay really made it look like the levels would be a walk in the park. I remember playing Super Mario Land 2 and the castle was already at the easy difficulty barely to manage. But that player walks through the castle, knowing every trap and the timing perfectly, that it really looked like it'd be easy.
He also trivializes some of the challenges by coming in with full powerups. Starting Mario 1's 8-3 as anything but Fire Mario is a nightmare of Hammer Bro RNG.
for the mario maker 2 one I actually think chain chomp chiller (final job given by undodog) is the hardest. it has 4/4 star rating as well and in it you have to reach the goal without touching the ground after jumping and there are tons of chain chomps falling from the sky which you need to narrowly go under (can't jump over them) and even a part with a big chain chomp that you gotta throw a trampoline perfectly under so it bounces over you
8-Airship is absolutely trivial if you have a P Wing… I always made sure to save one just for that level. And the inclusion of Tubular on this list is well deserved. It is probably THE most hated SMW level.
C-3...I feel like I'm the only one that never really struggled with that one. It's really just a test of if you can time springs and estimate your location. Took me maybe 1 or 2 deaths on my first run and I already had figured out you could get twofers to speed it up. If anything, I struggled with C-4 even more, and a number of other levels.
This might just be me, but i find the nerve rack pack to be more difficult than the impossible pack (despite the impossible pack being pretty freaking difficult)
When we're talking about the hardest and the most unfair 2D and 2.5D Mario adventure games, 9-7 in NSMBW must make the cut, that level is ridiculously hard to even get through, much less *getting the stars* there.
My favorite difficult level is also the don't touch anything from new super Mario Bros U. It is quite a difficult level, but at the same time fun and very epic !! :D
Omg. The impossible levels of new Super Mario bros 2. It was just a tough challenge I experienced. *Don't touch anything* from New Mario bros U was tough too. I accidentaly touched smth
In Super Mario Land 2, there are blocks where you should not walk over. These blocks are merely impossible to not mix them up with the normal blocks on the ground. You see the scene where he jumps in an empty room? That is where he jumps over those blocks.
@@user-bg6xh7vv7t maybe the nsmbw 9-7 where you need to use fire to get the star coins but you also melt the ice floor, the guy from the video just skipped half of the level with a star lol
I 100% beat Super Mario Advance 2 Super Mario World as a kid and if you don’t know, that involves getting every single dragon coin in every single level. That made so many levels so much tougher
I watched Nathaniel Bandy's videos about unfair levels, and there were also Tubular, 9-7, The Impossible Pack, Fire Bar Sprint... Sheesh... and in NSMBWII I suck at 3-4...
starting 9-7 with a star doesn’t do it justice. not even mentioning the god awful 7-8 or whatever it is that has the parabeetles (along with world 7 being possibly the second hardest world behind 9)

I think don't touch anything challenge is my worst enemy in new super Mario bros u in this challenge u have don't touch anything like enemies, coins and other
2:12 Eh, there are more unfair levels in SMB2 than 5-1. At least in 5-1 you don't run a strong risk of getting stranded (6-2) or aren't flooded with enemies and often have them placed in inopportune spots (5-3, both World 7 levels).
C-3 isn't even that hard, I've heard so many people call it one of the hardest mario levels ever, even tho you're just jumping on springs and can easily tell where you'll land
Okay I'm sorry but smb 8-3 is very fair. In the running section you can always jump over them while holding right and in the pair sections you can just wait until top or bottom is open. Other than that tho great video
Can someone explain what makes 8-3 so hard? I get the fire flower makes it look easy, but even with small Mario I don't see anything more difficult than what the rest of the game challenges you with
Sheer number of Hammer Bros and their RNG attack routine, mostly. It's a long, heavily luck-dependent run where you can easily die without actually making a mistake because of all their (literally) unpredictable hammer throwing and jumping around.
11:35 oh my, I am having flashbacks of how much I hated this level when I played it a long time ago. I wonder if I still have the game so I can try this level again. Edit: I replayed it but it was quite easy. I guess I was just horrible at the game back then.

You gotta just start running the second you get in the level and it'll basically be like an auto Mario in Mario Maker
It took me so long to beat 9-7, and even longer to get the coins. Definitely satisfying when you do beat it though.

that damn level reminds me of those troll smm levels, idk if it's the hardest but it's really unfair and hard
@Snez i did a 100% too and it was really frustrating, btw have you played the newer smbw hackrom?
@Snez if you have a homebrewed wii or a pc with dolphin you can play it there, it's really good and maybe even better than the original
@Snez uhh, i don't think that has anything to do with it
Wario was a completely underwhelming battle for his castle. Hope we can fight him again in a future game.
Once I saw Tubular from Super Mario World, I agreed with the list. Tubular is a pain of a level.
Thanks so much for making this.
My favorite level of difficulty is 9-7 in new Super Mario Bros wii, it is difficult but very fun and epic !! :)

I once played a castle level like this and it just looped and looped
