The beautiful interpretation for the song, made by the wonderful Ron Sexsmith, sung by both Sexsmith and Elvis Costello in the "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with..." TV show, 2009
The original post had a sweet story from Elvis regarding Ron's humility. Sheryl and the other performers were looking so impressed. Dark forces had it taken down, of course.
I saw Elvis in SF two weeks ago at Golden Gate Theater. Fabulous concert but when they brought a beautiful bright red chair to the stage, everyone else faded into the background, Elvis set on that chair and it was just him and his guitar doing this as the most beautiful slow sad and incredibly intimate ballad it was unbelievable! At the end the audience went wild and I was not the only who tears in my eyes
I'm not certain but I think a Canadian TV channel (CTV) owns it. It is from Costello's great show called Spectacle. I'm sure many people have copies of it. Some soul-less but competent lawyer probably clocked it. It's a gawdawful shame.
What a big difference between this version and the original. Elvis is incredible and is now mature singer. Great performance from Elvis and Ron. I have watched this performance about 200 times. I saw it originally on Spectacle. I wish I knew how to get on my ITunes.
When musicians, songwriters, and talented singers collaborate you get this.
I've had this on repeat for 3 days.
This is something quite flippin extraordinary!
