'Saw him in concert last night. Wonderful. Thanks, Ron and band. They are touring the UK in May 2017. Please support this artist. Buy his CD's and vinyl, go to his concerts. The music business is such that Ron still struggles a bit financially. He just moved away from Toronto, as he couldn't afford to live there anymore, after 10 years enjoying life there. Something so wrong with that picture. The man has so much talent.
Stratford is lovely. I think Ron and Colleen will really love it. He already has received welcomes from new neighbours, including Cynthia Dale who dropped by with flowers. (Mrs. Peter Mansbridge)
Madeleine Hague such a shame that this fantastic singer and guitarist struggles, especially when you see what type of thing dominates the music business these days.
I think he does ok financially...I think his fans do buy rather than download,he sells out theatres all around the world once a year, and his Songbook should be a hell of a pension if some of the Hit parade singers delve into it! I heard him say he felt a bit out of sorts in the city, going into bars where he didn't know anyone anymore...but that happens to all of us if we live long enough, things change and people move on...I thought it was his wife that wanted to leave Toronto most though!
This guy struggles financially? What a travesty. This song is off the charts quality. The performance and the song itself should be able to make a career.
In time to come, people will look back and say that he was one of the best that this world produced, not just Canada. How is it possible that only when he sings it, no one else, not Feist or any other cover can make a grown man get a lump in his throat. Of course we're not talking about me, its my 'friend' that gets all emotional.
Extraordinary talents do not always become rich persons. Mr. Sexsmith gets along. It's not a sad thing. Perhaps some day his tunes will be covered by a great big pop star. I hope it will be within his lifetime.
Beyond the brilliance of the song itself, what warms my heart is reading these comments and learning how many others out there also recognize the genius in Ron's oeuvre and this song in particular.
I come back to this song and this performance of it quite regularly. The subtle recognition he gets from his fellow artists and how they are obviously touched by this rendition is testimony in itself of its power and the timeless truth of the lyrics….Bravo 👏🏼👏🏼
A modern masterpiece. Such depth and power. The lyrics poignant , evocative and heart wrenching. The next time someone bangs on about Ed Sheeran, show them this.
Is it just me but every time I see Ron being watched by other artists, they are always in "awe" if his writing ability. Fran is an amazing writer, but not many can hold a candle to Ron Sexsmith - including Fran. Ron is honestly one of the best writers out there doing it now. It's a privilege to have him in our generation and it's all of our responsibility as fans of Sexsmith to help spread the word of his music....
Its an understatement for me to say its a great song there is no way to rate it. Its pure and its from the soul and any of us that hear this should consider ourselves lucky. Its refreshing to know that there is people like this in our world.
Saw him on Sunday in Manchester...amazing!!.This clip got me into his music as I stumbled over this programme a few years ago. .Great to see two fellow musicians on stage being so obviously moved by this mans musical genius.
Hi! I'm from J apan! 20years ago, My sis got Secret heart song❗️ I really LOVE this song, I used to listen This LOVELY song ❤️ When I was listening 、Ron work at post office. 20 yearspast, For few months I try to remind his name ,B ecause I really want listen this song‼️ Tonight I fimally found your song‼️‼️ Im soooo HAPPY💖
I've heard of Ron Sexsmith for a while and, foolishly, never really gave him a listen. The songs from this session are stunning but this song has just done it. Me and Ron's back catalogue are gonna be getting intimate very soon. Beautiful song
What fills me with hope is the face of the peer musicians looking at Ron not with competitive contempt, but instead with admiration and a connection that in some mystical way his expression is intrinsically connected to them, and to us all.
Secret heart What are you made of? What are you so afraid of? Could it be three simple words? Or the fear of being overheard? What's wrong? Let her in on your secret heart Secret heart Why so mysterious? Why so sacred, why so serious? Maybe you're just acting tough Maybe you're just not man enough What's wrong? Let her in on your secret heart This very secret you're trying to conceal Is the very same one you're dying to reveal Go tell her how you feel Secret heart Come out and share it This loneliness, few can bear it Could it have something to do with Admitting that you just can't go through it alone? Let her in on your secret What's wrong, oh? Let her in on your secret heart Your secret heart
There are performers that sing words, and there are singers that perform heart surgery. I always feel broken at the finale of his ballads, but I always feel better and lighter than before. The wounds always heal with the music of Ron Sexsmith.
wow. what a performance. One of the best songs EVER about being vulnerable- sung by one of our best singers , ever. Amazing. Ron should be a superstar.
a timeless masterpiece. simple and true. not one word is missing or unnecessary. to write such pure and simple poetry, all extractions and barriers between his feelings and his mind must have evaporated. these songs come from some other place, but if you're gifted and working on your craft, you can tap into them.
I am a naturalized Canadian and it makes me Proud to think of myself as a fellow Canadian. His writing is like nobody else, his guitar skills I strive to emulate and I am formally asking him to follow James Taylor's example and teach us mear mortals how to play this fantastic music himself.
I have no idea why I ALWAYS cry when I hear it song. I have no idea where it takes me that makes me so emotional. I don't think I miss anyone that much that's not in my life right now.
Fran Healy looking at him at the start of the video like who brought this guy along?! Blown away. Also always watching chords.. such an underrated guitar player is Ron.
Hey everyone! I finally covered this song after watching this video soo many times and after moving to Toronto- I thought I should do it in honour of Ron Sexsmith and Feist- two of the best Torontonians. Let me know what you think! :) Secret Heart - Ron Sexsmith/Feist (cover)
Such presence! Wow! That is a great song for sure and here Ron dresses it in a beautiful sensitive vocal that took my breath away. Life is worth living.
I agree with Gerry. The other two are very good but they realise collectively I reckon that the guy in the middle is definitely a cut above. He probably doesn't have the song writing formula of Gouldman or the song writing hook of Healey but his artistry is beyond that which each of them together could ever achieve.
Wonderful song. I heard a 12 year old girl named BILLIE TWEDDLE from the U.K. cover this song here on youtube. She is amazing. If it weren't for her I never would have discovered Ron Sexsmith. And I'm from Canada just like Ron. Go figure. Thank you Billie Tweddle. Any one who is impressed with real talent should check out Billie's songs here on youtube. I promise you won't be dissapointed. She even has a couple she wrote herself that are incredible.

Yeah, it's too bad for sure. And..I think he said 30 years. Stratford is pretty great though. :)

*Something in my eye
crybabies. *sob
'my friend' gets all emotional too...
I do like Curtis Stigers' cover!
May any cover from colleagues make Ron's talent more known!
Extraordinary talents do not always become rich persons. Mr. Sexsmith gets along. It's not a sad thing. Perhaps some day his tunes will be covered by a great big pop star. I hope it will be within his lifetime.
"This loneliness, few can bear it"
Those lyrics just go straight to the heart and stay there.
"Maybe your just acting tough. Maybe you're just not man enough." Gets me every time.

Absolutely beautiful!
Love this song . It’s brilliant. His voice is just gorgeous.
What a deeply affecting voice. So real, so lovely, so pure. What beauty. Viscerally moving.
A modern masterpiece. Such depth and power. The lyrics poignant , evocative and heart wrenching.
The next time someone bangs on about Ed Sheeran, show them this.
Masterpiece.
I've come to the conclusion that Ron Sexsmith is the single most talented songwriter on the planet. His ear for melody is quite astonishing.
Is it just me but every time I see Ron being watched by other artists, they are always in "awe" if his writing ability. A superb entertainer with the voice of an angel.

21st century Paul McCartney singing songs we all feel but for some reason cant express on our one .
Funny you should say that. I think Macca was an early fan and helped get him heard.
I love this song. Ron covers it perfectly. ❤
He wrote it
@@jajohnson9014 He did! OOPS!
I'm from Texas and just got through watching Saving Hope. I loved this song and more from the show!
Saw him on Sunday in Manchester...amazing!!.This clip got me into his music as I stumbled over this programme a few years ago. .Great to see two fellow musicians on stage being so obviously moved by this mans musical genius.
It's like an unanticipated gift. The music that comes out of such a vessel. Not since Roy Orbison have I been so surprised at the sheer beauty of it.
love how bowled over Fran Healy seems listening to him play this song. Ron is incredible. Heart wrenching

Beautiful.

The song that told me that this is the best Canadian singer songwriter of the 21st-century

Secret heart
What are you made of?
What are you so afraid of?
Could it be three simple words?
Or the fear of being overheard?
What's wrong?
Let her in on your secret heart
Secret heart
Why so mysterious?
Why so sacred, why so serious?
Maybe you're just acting tough
Maybe you're just not man enough
What's wrong?
Let her in on your secret heart
This very secret you're trying to conceal
Is the very same one you're dying to reveal
Go tell her how you feel
Secret heart
Come out and share it
This loneliness, few can bear it
Could it have something to do with
Admitting that you just can't go through it alone?
Let her in on your secret
What's wrong, oh?
Let her in on your secret heart
Your secret heart
Pleasantly surprised to hear this song again at the end of 'The A Word'

Love love love Ron Sexsmith’s music! He is so amazing. His voice just reaches in you and touches your heart. Such a great song thank Ron
Can't believe I'm just discovering him. He is incredible. Although suffering from depression so perhaps I should not listen.
wow. what a performance. One of the best songs EVER
about being vulnerable- sung by one of our best singers , ever.
Amazing. Ron should be a superstar.
The X-Files Season 10 Episode 05 brought me here... Awesome song..
Ron's songs cut deep into our souls. Terrific songwriter/singer/guitarist.

He is one of the most under-rated singer songwriters/musicians of this generation! His music is beauty to the ears!!
I have no idea why I ALWAYS cry when I hear it song. I have no idea where it takes me that makes me so emotional. I don't think I miss anyone that much that's not in my life right now.
Breaks MY FUCKING HEART EVERY TIME! In the car kids singing! Fuuuckkkk! Love you! Apologies.

Not only a great songsmith, a great singer, but a brilliant guitar player as well. Profound thanks to the wonderful friend who sent me here.
Great song... Check Fran Healey's face.. Respect.
Makes me cry everytime I watch it
Pure gold.
Ron on ehkä suurin äänen käyttäjä mitä koskaan tulee. Kiitos ja lopputulemalle siitos.
Still the most beautiful song I have ever heard, lumpy throat every time.

Brilliant reminds me of Richard hawley
Beautiful song evocatively sung. Is that the also talented Graham Gouldman sitting next to him?
Secret heart, great song, ademas suena en el episodio 5 de la temporada 10, de los expedientes secretos X
How to write songs. By Ron Sexsmith.
He's one of those people who simply could never, in a million years, have done anything else.

Raul Malo also does a beautiful version of this song...
christ how good is this ,,mabey not the greatest singing voice but the lyrics jeez just so good
Not the greatest singing voice?/ seriously??
Dude u are INSANE. Canadas finest SINGER - SONGWRITER. Ron Sexsmith could sing the phone book and I would pay all day. Perfection ~
Agreed ...very underated .. no gimmicks or dancing girls to distract .. just a guy singing his song .. brilliant .. not enough of his like these days
He has an amazing voice, what was Barvas42 listening too.....not this obviously
the guy puts dylan to shame!
Listen to him sing "Regret" with the Abalone Dots...
I'm so happy that TH-cam put an Amy Winehouse video forward as a reault of this one.
Graham Gouldman knows a great writer when he hears one.
