- I don't know what possessed me to alter everything in my wardrobe just a week before I left for America... but I did it! I'll be sharing with you how to resize pants, shorten hemlines, how to make a distressed hem, taking in a dress and more!

Girl I just needed to tell you how you've influenced my way of dressing.
I've gone from years of wearing all black, then fading into a quiet depression with my clothes by hiding behind baggy stuff I've had for years... To not buying alot of clothes, but diving into the mujeres of my family's closets and going back to my love of thrifting.
I went from being afraid to be looked at to going full monochrome, wearing all my dream pièces, being playful with my style, and most importantly loving my vessel again and feeding and treating her right.
And today, the universe sent you to make me bring out my sewing machine and finally splurge on that mannequin, to alter the pile of clothes that has been sitting here for months.

To prevent puckering, don’t sew to the bottom of the dart, make your line attached 3/4 of the way down. I hope I’m explaining that well. 🤞🏾

Wait, could you elaborate on that solution - that would be so helpful!! takin gin the waist with a dart is def one of my long procrastinated projects, esp on denim bc I dont want puckering or the waistband to be too thick once dart-ed.
@@quimenga when she shows the bottom of the dart (the point) and states “this is how far you can go down” .. don’t sew to the point, connect your stitch 3/4 of the way down from the point.
TIP: (try not to curve your seam)

I still believe the easiest yet prettiest small alteration was the orange dress!! It looked so pretty after you fixed it!! But also the jeans with the gold embroidery must have been hard but the results paid off!!

I never realized how much better properly fitting clothes looked on a person until I watched this video. This gives me the motivation to practice and learn how to alter clothes properly for myself and others. Great video!
Love this! When resizing darts it can really help to put them on inside out and pin your new sew line, and also to extend the dart a little bit further so that the sew line can merge into nothing as gradually as possible (the less abruptly the dart ends, the less chance of puckering) and agree with the other comments on ironing! ✨

my grandma is scary good at altering clothes. she can look at you and know exactly big or small it needs to be. that's what i hope to be able to do because i am mad tired of measuring everything.

I lost fifteen pounds and never having tried alterations, but watched my mother-in-law do it for years, I took up jeans, shorts, shirts, and I had pretty good luck. If you are not wearing your clothes, what do you have to lose.
You could use these leftover fabrics to make tiaras

I personally don't alter jeans because it can damage my sewing machine. I've had to turn down a couple jobs because of this. But those golden thingy jeans are a piece of art, they deserve it! 👑
I think maybe with the straps of the orange dress you can take the elastic and make a belt for it 🤔

Okay but what do you do if you alter everything and then gain weight that bumps you up a dress size. Asking for a friend...
Depending on the item, sometimes I don't cut off the excess fabric, and leave it there just in case I gotta seam rip it- that way it's back to it's regular size. I went into another workout program the month before I left and was gonna make it into a video.. but gurl then i left for America and we're at square one again 🥲🥲 i wish i had taken an update clip atleast before I left.. cause I finally reached the a weight milestone after yeaaars. this proves how you don't need to be a professional tailor to get really good results! i'm on a one-man mission to alter my whole closet too, even if the stitches are a bit dodgy, the fit is the most important thing!
the more you do it the better you will get!!
i mean, it's better to have a go at altering something even if it doesn't give you professional results... if it means you'll wear the thing more often then you've succeeded, in my opinion

Well done for getting around altering your clothes! 👏🏻 I think some of the pants especially the pink pair mainly needs a good press on a tailors ham to look like it has less puckering. A good press on a dart makes all the difference! 😊 Also, love your thread holder hack 😍

My mom had to alter all of my pants growing up because I had really weird proportions and I'm glad she taught me how to alter clothes too. I was always really skinny but eventually also grew and clothes would never fit on my waist and my leg length at the same time. I still always get the butt gap so learning how to fix that issue specifically was very important for me. You can do a lot of these alterations without a sewing machine too you just need more patience if you hand sew but it's totally possible I've shortened jeans by hand.
It's so fun watching you and all your projects, it really motivates me to get up my ass and go do something productive 😂❤️

To avoid puckering at end of darts, try ending your dart just short of where it tells you to and tie the ends off by hand instead of backstitching at the tiny part

to help with the puckering i was told to sew in more of a curve rather than a line. don't secure it with sewing back and forth just go off the fabric (never leave even 1mm of fabric left, try to go off the fabric as smooth as possible with a nearly paralell line) and secure it by tying the two threads.

You should get a ramen bowl, it has these dips to hold the chopsticks (10:57). This way your straw hack and bowl would work better since the straw wouldn't move around as much

Yes exactly!! I think that’s why when you start sewing, it’s really great to start with doing alterations! I learned a lot that way!!!
I started hand sewing, and learnt you really need only 3 stitches, then got a second hand Elna 3003 sewing machine and bought this 900 page Fashion Design pattern book, then I realised, in order to be a successful upcycler, you have to be good at reverse engineering ;)
This taught me SO much and I dont even know how to use a needle and thread

I have to put in 700 darts on pants too 😩 i dont usually cut the darts off just incase i fluctuate in weight or give it to someone else!
How do you prevent the puckering?
weird question maybe but how many sizes can i alter before i just need a new pair of pants? i'm on a weight loss journey and my favorite pants (that i bought recently because i thought i was done losing weight lmao oops) are already at least a size too big. i'm thinking i only have like mayyybe 10-20 lbs to go. could i make it work or should i just wait and get the size that fits when i'm done losing weight? :s
I mean it all really depends on your body, like you can be losing weight but gaining muscle so maybe dont alter the legs or anything. I'd say just wait till you reach your goal, until then use belts to tighten your jeans! Aaaand if you have extra fabric on the waist just push that to the back. And and one last little thing, eventually you might want to look into how to alter the inseam area as well!
