NOTE: We promised 4 techniques but somehow one last exercise footage was not added so its only 3 techniques and a bonus. Dan will cover it and reshoot in the future along with any other conditioning techniques enough people request for.
When I started, I practiced these arm drills. I almost quit because the pain was so bad. My instructor was thin like me but his arms were like steel. I thought he had broken my arms at my first lesson. I was discouraged and disappointed and thought of quitting. After a week I decided to return and continue working. Now my arms are steel and I love it :)
We are essentially energy so is our increase on the hardening of arms is a mental thing just like getting ripped and working on bars doing calisthenics and with heavy weights using dumbells! All of this is increasing on the muscle memory and thus the impact of the muscle and the power, speed create power, but when you mix speed with hardening or conditioning it augments the power, breaking a brick or a wooden table it will be easier and over time will not hurt! Last year I did arm conditioning having bruises now I don't have any only red skin and the pain is lower and passes faster than having bruises months ago! That's because I did calisthenics for 11 and a half years! Trye calisthenics and some weights to harden your forearm then you will resist the arm conditioning training! It won't hurt as much as if you did not do calisthenic I promise! Start doing planches then pullups!
Man this dude makes me wanna reach for the sky! My pop had his attitude. He never complained. No excuses. This dude doesn't wait for anything. Good man. 😁
wish i'd known dit da jow back in 2010 when i was still practicing my martial art (personally i think of it as tactical science, a body of precision knowledge for my tactical aspect), would have saved me from a lot of bruises, gonna go for my local chinese medicine shops next time i can visit one, thanks so much for sharing.
I remember doing this over 25 years ago for a couple of years studying choy li fut. Wow... I love the smell of dit da jow. Brings back some good memories
I have a lot of admiration for Dan Lok. He teaches great philosophies as it pertains to life. How to defend yourself physically, as well as financially. A true 21st Century warrior!
I'm a first time watcher and a single mother so your videos are very helpful and are very detailed and very easy to understand,I can't wait to start training. I subscribed and got my notifications on.

Hello Dan - love your work on these instructional videos...I have been studying and practicing the 108 form Yang style Tai Chi Chuan...for about 17 years...What I discovered years ago was that my ability to Punch -came out of nowhere...What I mean is I did not realize what the tai chi had done to the body...I could punch almost (iron railing to wood - trees) anything (it seemed) so long as I remained relaxed...I saw that I had been carrying around so much tension for so many years - and now that the tai chi had had its effect..I was free to punch almost anything ...I have never been attracted to fighting or violence....I find the conditioning of which you speak happens gradually -almost unawares.(if i had attempted to punch anything before the training - I would have broke something - or simply been disabled by pain)..thanks
WHY DO I COMMENT ON BRUCE LEE .? . HE WAS TRULY THE VERY BEST IN MARTIAL ARTS . !!!!!! .MAJOR IN PHILOSOPHY IN COLLEGE !!!!!! . AND WAS AN INSTRUCTOR , FOR MANY YEARS .!!!!! . Thai boxing helps us out with conditioning and post treatment more than any other martial art. I combined this with my wing chun. Which gave me similar results to you Dan. I wish to point out the, Thai Yoga Massage, which is ALWAYS done after a training session in Thailand as far as I am aware. They use their feet and rub down vigorously the whole body. One of the most important things about conditioning is BLOOD flow. Why you also rub this medicine in. The herbs help, but the stimulation to the muscles, easing their pain thru blood flow will also ADD to conditioning and keep that blood flow at all times. Resisting bruising and abrasions. Massages after training will ease pain and promoting even MORE conditioning. This was a WONDERFUL video Dan. Didnt even know you trained til today!! Thank you brotha!!
I've been watching you for a year and im staring to understand the Bruce Lee fighting philosophy, that is very practical but very efficient. I'm very excited. I also read Bruce's daughter explain how she feels his energy and I'd learning from her father even though he's deceased and she doesn't really remember him but she's learning from his leagacy. So am I through you dan
Good video techniques work really well i also do it on trees and had to make a wooden dummy from a chair. But gotta do what u can to get better right always gotta find a way
I just started watching your videos. I am 33 and have been studying martial arts since age 4. I have studied many styles, but I have always wanted to study Wing Chun. I did study Pencak Silat for 3 years before working studying it on my own and I still practice. I notice the similarities between Pencak Silat and Wing Chun. I finally found a Wing Chun class and will start studying it soon and I am excited. The partner workout you did in this video I used in Shorin-Ryu Karate.
Good conditioning. I used to use a tree. When qi is exchanged with the tree, it's very different from using my wooden dummy. You can also use the palms on the tree.... good iron palms. And use the jow!!!! Very important!
I’ve been good about conditioning myself, though I have been neglecting my groin, face, palm, fingers, and back of the hand. This reminded me to do so, so thanks for the reminder!
Hey there Dan, I must say you have..honestly got the cleanest flow I have ever seen.. I know there are subtly many styles of wing chun practitioners...so many. Almost micro diffrences...I pay attention to Aura and style of movement all the time, anytime I spar. But yours is just insane...I have alot of respect for you and your tips. I myself have been training for some years now..wing chun and JKD. Ive studied a few of Bruce's punches and techniques and have been refining them non stop. So again big ups to you man.. Insane technique. Please keep up the vids they're gold! Respect, -Dmitri
Great stuff, I really like your presence of being both a business and Martial Arts professional with the focus on proper technique and care to do it safely. Thanks for the great lessons!, Ken.
I once saw a book with old illustrations from Shaolin Temple of stone training. Eventually some monks were said to break stone. There was also a master from Beijing, who moved to Canada, who practiced one hand on a piece of plate metal. He had some impressive callouses. One of my teachers just recommended Tiger Balm for arms and hands.
Enjoy your video just started watching you I studied Kenpo I like your arm techniques don't have wooden dummy and conditioning I use a BB bag I learnt something watching you thank you again Randy
lOVE THE VIDS, but I ain't been training... :( I ALSO wanted the learn to play instruments, guitar, drums, and keyboards. OMG!!! Since learning, I've found boxing, martial arts, and learning to play instruments too, ALL GO HAND IN HAND!!! "HERE'S TO AN AMAZING FUTURE!!! Thanks ever SO MUCH :) :) :) Thanks...
I studied Isshin-Ryu and it has helped me out of some tough spots. I really enjoy Jeet Kune Do vids. I was thinking of JKD training when I lived in Seattle, but never got around to it.
Im 50 (nearly) and I can tell you, yes it will condition your arms, I used to do wen chu kuan style kung fu, same arm techniques, and the bruises i got were incredible, my sifu used same medicine too.
Great content again. We do that ‘arm hardening ‘ drill from time to time, bon-tan-gan, then other arm, then sometimes 3 straight punches in the middle to change arms. An extra benefit is it helps your turning, power, rooting, body sync, and force production. Holy cow I can’t believe you were hitting that rock, whoa. I have an extra square wall bag with pea gravel in it, maybe I should start with that. I remember in the movie “Fearless” that Huo Win ja’s dad was striking a pad n a table and split the table,...
Dan Lok Not regularly, just a couple times per month, we should do it more. There was a guy I met in the past who did it more often, his forearms felt like the dummy arms! Master Wong had a video about it as well, using a small tree. Maybe I will start practicing it with classmates a couple times per week and make it a habit. Better to do gradually to minimize the bruises, for sure.
Like the Shaolin Temple shirt that the one dude is wearing. Actually have a couple of those. I've also got good jow authentically made, some over thirty years old, but I'll give a shout out to Plum Dragon. They make good stuff. Probably the best you can get off the internet without going to a Chinese herb store.
Osu, nice vid sifu Lok. I practice kyokushin for more than 20 years. Now I can break 2 bric stones with my 2 knuckles fist punch. With my low kick I break wooden baseballstick. I even know the technique for my balls, when someone kick it, I absorp the kick and feel no pain, thats trough meditation. Once I have fought in kyokushin tournament bare knuckles against a win chun fighter, He was really good. But I k.o. him with a liver punch, ! Osu!
In my younger years I strengthen my forearms, but in practice against 1 or more opponents I I found my forearms strong but my wrists taking damage from 1 or more blows. Your wrists are very sensitive and need special attention. I worked my self up from wood then a flat stone that I had for grinding at one point in time, then found the back side of a Iron frying pan for more hardness!
Hello I’ve started to watch you because I want to learn how to condition my arms etc for Wing Chun as I want this to be my self defence in my security workplace if I need to use it.
I always conditioning my knuckles, basically a karate thing but i do apply kung fu forms in my training.... Mostly wall hitting.... And knuckle pushups....
Just subbed Dan Lok. Thanks for taking the time to show us these effective techniques. I'm going to watch more of your videos. Dan can I ask your opinions of other Martial arts? Your truthfully honest opinion of even just the first two you can think of?
You have to overly stress not being over zealous. My friend and I were doing it. I tested first by hitting my two forearms together a few times to understand were I was at, and my friend went full blown and really hurt himself. So don't be over zealous.
Great technique Dan. I practice some of what you are doing plus some other things from the Sil Lim Tao form on my Muk. Thank you for the great instructions and ideas. Always good information. Best of all good things. Gary Chattanooga.

Dan Lok ....what the best way in doing these strikes w/o incurring nreve damage.
Dan Lok I truly enjoy your videos. What 1 handed techniques could you show that might help someone who only has 1 hand?
Dan Lok Sifu this works well with Jessie Glover method as well
Definitely.
