    yeah I have an 03 dodge ram 1500 and the front shocks look completely different with a huge coil spring and the shock in the middle of it.

      Pretty late to the game on this one so apologies but the 4wd used torsion bars and the 2wd used coil overs. So that may account for the differences.

    Thank you so much for this video. It helps to understand things, but just a little more information regarding the indication that this applies to 02-08 Rams. I have an 06 4x4 with shocks and coil spring.

    For the fronts, you will need a spring compressor to get the spring separated from the shock.

    Just watched this and i noticed that the truck is a 4x4 and is different than a non 4x4. The 2x4 has coil springs and the way the shock mounts is different. Would it be possible to have a video on a non 4x4. Thank you for all the other videos that have helped me a great deal.

      I was about to ask the same question as I had a 2004 4x2 with coil springs and now I have a 2004 4x4 with struts...definitely not the same

  • @jetttskiman
    @jetttskiman 12 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have an 07 1500 4x4 and it has the coil over shock system. this video doesnt cover that. Also my service manual says " All suspension components should be tighteded with the weight of the vehicle on them. Having the suspension at curb ride height when torquing bolts ensures good ride characteristitics and longer bushing life by preventing excessive "wind-up" of the bushing. "

    Does the truck have to be on a lift to change shocks, or can I change the shocks with tires on the ground ?

  • @grlnboots

    I think the Ram he is working on has a torsion spring system? I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 and it looks like this, no coil springs it has the torsion spring system. Just curious as to where the best place is for jacking up and putting jack stands at when doing this. Also seeking confirmation that the torsion springs do not need to be backed off.

    Thank for the video! Was there a nut on the other side of the lower bolt for the shock or did the bolt thread directly into the lower control arm?

    On the Front shock why did you need an Adjustable wrench instead of just unscrewing the nut on top? Is there something that needs to be held so that it won't turn with the nut when you are breaking it loose and then tightening it back up after the new one is installed?

    • @1AAuto

    So, quick question. To my surprise the other day I found that the right front bottom shock bolt was missing and the shock was just hanging. What size and thread bolt goes in there? MOPAR send me a 14 x 80 mm bolt with a 2 thread but it doesn't want to go in very well. I think i need to run a tap through it but would like to confirm before I do.
    Thanks!

      I own a 2002 3/4 ton ( previous body style vs what the video displays) and it has the shock absorber in this same location and the coil spring just forward of that in its own place. Where the coil spring is located, there is a mounting hole at both top and bottom of it's holding place as if a coil over shock could also go in this place. Optional to upgrade ( to a coil over ) or is this just due to manufacturing process for variant models? For a 4x4 perhaps?
