    Yesss! A scientific analysis of chronic pain! One that is non-judgemental and doesn't involve pseudo-scientific essential oils or chakra alignment 😅😅😅
    But seriously, chronic pain is massively life changing and often overlooked by the medical profession. And poorly understood by those not affected.

    And about chronic pain - it can be a symptom of Lyme disease and many more infections, and is often so misunderstood and labelled as trapped emotions and stress only.
    This subject is huge and conditions such as fibro or auto immune are often mis-diagnosed.

    Thank you so much for this share. I signed up for the App and will also purchase from your site. I have been in chronic pain for years. I LOVE the idea of slowing the breath rather then deepening the breath. Often deep breathing intensifies my flare ups.

    I’ve been doing a program called DNRS for pots syndrome and anxiety for a couple of years, it’s also made for people with chronic pain, fibromyalgia etc and addresses these issues being due to the limbic system being stuck in fight and flight 24/7

    I have chronic pain and biofeedback helped in the sense that severe flare ups used to cause hyperventilating and throwing up but did not effect my actual pain level. So, it was helpful for learning to live with your pain…just wish it actually impacted the physical pain!

    I have chronic pain and have for years. I was on morphone ER for years and it managed my pain, I still had pain but my quality of life greatly improved. In the past 2-3 years they've become so strict that its impossible to have any pain relief to speak of. I was put on suboxone and my pain skyrocketed and my quality of life plummeted. I got back surgery and it made the pain WORSE. Nearly 2 years after surgery, I am still on suboxone and my pain is like 6-8 on a daily basis. My life has gone to shit, its affected my marriage, I haven't worked since getting surgery and I feel like there are no doctors out there that can or are willing to help. Ive gotten 2nd opinions and the concensus is this: the CDC guidelines on prescribing opiates has become scripture to the DEA and doctors in general, and getting pain relief has become illegal.

      I hear you 100% . I hope you can try Biofeedback. It takes a long time and a lot of discipline, but it's so helpful to have coping tools in your toolbox apart from the meds bc we both know those aren't reliable when pain is so severe.

    I struggle with chronic back pain without pain medications. This is very helpful and everyone should remember this as they get older and start to experience more pains. Congratulations on 500,000. We know you are touching many more.

    Thank you so much for making these videos and sharing your knowledge & techniques to manage anxiety. I was feeling hopeless and lost because therapy, and biofeedback therapy is so expensive. But I love how you break down the science behind the heart and brain in order to take control of the parasympathetic nervous system in order to improve our HRV and ultimately reduce anxiety, nervousness, and stress. Thank you for the work you do. I am grateful to have come across your videos. 😊

    Thanks for this valuable video, I struggled with chronic pain for 13 years as a quadriplegic. The takeaway for me was the control of your breathing rate, the correlation between the physiological and psychological factors… :-)

    I only recently realized that I’ve been dealing with pain for over a decade (MS for 20 years). Just admitting I have chronic pain, anxiety and depression was huge for me. I’m finally getting into an 8-week program with Kaiser. The mind-body connection is REAL. The time I spent on your video with Celine Tien has really opened my eyes. Now I need to figure out who I am and what my future looks like once I’ve addressed this.

    Congratulations Emma! And thank you. This topic is critical. I think my pain has triggered ongoing ptsd symptoms. I have noticed improvement with practicing meditation and a little breathwork for the past 18 months. I did notice a positive feedback loop as well with opioid use. I don't take them, but when I've had some for dental surgery the pain relief bodywide would last far longer than the effective duration of the pill...Like 2-3 days. The initial pain suppression interrupted the autonomic nervous loop. Now I want to check out this Flowly thing.

    I just want to say thank you so much for your videos. I was in such a bad spot for the past few weeks with horrible pain in my shoulder, neck and head. My neurologist diagnosed me with occipital neuralgia and threw some meds at me. I don't like taking new meds especially for pain. I had to fight for a scan to make sure nothing was actually wrong. Some Dr's don't listen. My anxiety was horrible, constant panic attacks, couldn't calm myself at all body and mind. I'm finally 2 days with little pain after a long 3 months. I'm taking my life back. Thank you so much.

    I’m glad to see this video on this topic! Seems on point. Everyone on here should look into the mind body approach also known as TMS or PPD. Alan Gordon has a new book out called The Way Out which is great. The Curable app is also a dead l great place to start. Any book by Dr John Sarno. Podcasts: The Cure for Chronic Pain, Tell Me About Your Pain, Like Mind Like Body. Dan Buglio’s and Dan Ratner’s TH-cam channels are also great.

    I suffer from LPR (Laryngopharyngeal reflux). It's not comparable to many other chronic pain conditions, but it painful and chronic in the sense that, even if it is intermittent and can be alleviated by diet, there is no cure for it. I'm in the middle of a flare-up. I also suffer from anxiety so it is a vicious cycle that creates insomnia, wasted days and anxiety attacks (often when the symptoms of LPR actually alleviate). This 10 second (5 in and 5 out) breathing pace has really helped me to enter a calm and peaceful state where I can finally focus and stop worrying. I will try it when I go to sleep.     Im just watching this now, may 24, 2023. Acute chronic pain person here. I'm going to pass this on to my pcp so he will understand what's going on with me! I'm in Portland Oregon and the mental health field here is terribly poor. Came from the midwest where I had the best therapy. Very sad however I'm overjoyed my friend turned me on to you! Hugh thank you!! ❤

    I'm really intrigued now. I have brain damage from an assault (16 years ago) and suffer from chronic headaches, and PTSD. I always assumed that the constant 'fight or flight' feeling, the constant knot in my stomach, was the PTSD, I never imagined that it could be caused by the chronic pain.

    A very intelligible dialogue on the autonomic nervous system. If I may add, there should be three distinct divisions rather than two. Sympathetic, Parasympathetic, and Enteric.

    I have been in this chronic pain cycle for 5 decades and the nerve of healthcare saying it's all in our heads.
    Basically it is what is ignore it! After 5 decades of this b.s. I give up!

    It’s great that this research is going on. But it always makes me roll my eyes at the fact that these young healthy 20 somethings have all the answers about pain. I think I’d be a lot more likely to listen if these two were 80!

    I’m starting to think that at least some of my pain, brain fog, pots, is being caused by cranio-cervical instability (CCI). Which messes with the vagus nerve and intracranial pressure, worsening the fight flight response too. Going to ask my doctor if there is anything we can do based on my research. PT recommended trying a neck collar but that’s not gonna be a long term solution. But our neck are so important since they are the junction of the brain and spinal cord.

    The wording used is validating and empowering, thank you.
    Since 2004 ive been in pain, surgeries, nerve endings burnt, and sadly other body impacts also. The impact on my emotional health inc anxiety and my sleep, or lack of is now quite a problem for me. There are various other modalities, ive dappled with many, i get some easing, but it seems exhausting at times keep managing it.
    The thought that such a simple technique as a learned way of breathing can help and improve with time is very interesting! I'm now on the waiting list for Android options.

      You may want to look into reading Dr. Sarno's. He was a physiatrist who was a pioneer in the mind/body connection. Thousands of people are able to overcome their pain just by understanding the concepts in the books. If you don't want to pay for a book, there are articles and even a fb group related to his teachings.

      @@3graces3 you are very welcome. My mother overcame debilitating back pain due to his teachings. She read his books and met with him. He is no longer alive, but his replacement at the Rusk Institute in NYC is Dr. Ira Rashbaum. If you were to schedule an appointment with him, he may be able to diagnose your pain as being more mind/body or more related to your physiology. It is great because he is a Physiatrist, so you are not dealing with a "woo woo" sort of practitioner ;).

      @@Dbiss Thank you Private for sharing your story of how the Dr helped your Mother. I live in UK so unable to visit his successor. I will now look at getting one of books. I have history of abuse in childhood, (as well as in adulthood!) also labelled with IBS among other things, perhaps not surprising after reading that article about him.

      I messaged your support end of august (somewhat 28.08.2021 I think) and didn’t receive a reply… Ultimately I went for the wahoo tracker and elite HRV app and now training with this. I love the resonance breathing, it’s amazing how just 10min can make a big difference! It’s a shame I couldn’t use flowly since I’m super curious about the VR and KI-determined resonance breath rate, especially with a background in IT. Perhaps one day if App and shipping are available to Europe… Anyways, keep up the good work and expand as much as possible :-)

    Im constantly feeling in a fight/flight response since I had been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia which affects my stomach (second brain) As well as my diaphragm. It causes a myriad of symptoms including irregular heartbeat, because of the vagus nerve. I feel like no matter what I do I can never let my body relax because of the constant pain

    Thank you for this video series, this is very helpful. I see that you have a link in the video description that shows how to "calculate" HRV using apple watch .... I thought this was not a very accurate way to calculate HRV? I guess for informational purposes this would be a good tool, but someone who is in serious need of working on this, should not rely solely on this. Am I wrong?
