When I first watched this I laughed so hard I actually fell out of my chair a couple of times. I would love to see a full-length version of Fake Purse Ninjas.
My first reaction of yours, and it’s a great one. Love your overall presentation and editing choices, and thanks for not cutting it too short, which is a common problem with TH-cam reactions. I absolutely agree with your high placement of this under appreciated gem. So far as Steve Martin, this one is a close second to Roxanne (1987), and his dramatic turn in The Spanish Prisoner (1997). Since you’re big fans of Robert Downey Jr, please don’t miss the grossly underrated Home for the Holidays (1995). The ensemble cast is pure gold, but the dominant roles belong to Holly Hunter and Downey. Also, it was directed by Jodi Foster.
I worked on shitty low budget shows for 20 years and this movie is brilliant, ridiculous, and semi-accurate. There really are people like Bowfinger and worse. Actually, there’s a lot worse. And I also once worked with an undocumented guy from a Central American country that had been in the country about a week. He somehow schmoozed his way onto our team as a grip/PA. He caught on fast and we made him a regular grip (with a $50 bump) after the first week. Really, he outworked us while making us look good.
My favourite film of All Time! Fabulous Actors , Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy , Heather Graham . Christine Baranski ( Lenards Mom ) I loved how Heather Graham, did the bad acting, with her movement, and went from person to person to promote her part!
Great reaction! I love this movie, it is unfortunate that it is not as popular as it should be. Another movie about making a movie that I personally enjoy is Get Shorty with John Travolta, one of the few cases where the movie is better than the book.
Thank you! Get Shorty is on our list for sure to cover. I want to do a few Elmore Leonard adaptations in the near future (Get Shorty, Out of Sight). - Greg
I'm a new writer and I remembered watching this film as a kid and laughing a bunch. But, as time has passed and I rewatched this as an adult. It's just "pitch" perfect for a film.
@Video Village thanks!! I appreciate your channel for showing a peek behind the curtain. Also, my favorite RDJ performance is a film called Heart & Souls from 1993.
Other industry-themed movies: The Last Shot (matthew broderick, alec baldwin). An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn (Eric Idle leads but big cast)
First place I lived in LA was the Sofitel Hotel and the Pacific Design Center was my view. Every day I wondered why there was a spaceship in the middle of LA.
@@videovillagereactions Oh, Des, I was hoping you hadn't seen it yet, I love what RDJ had to do in that movie so was hoping you'd see it for the first time here. Have you seen Steve Martin in 'All of Me'? Maybe check that out.
Hello from Romania !!! Great reaction guys 👍Have you watched Quigley Down Under with Tom Selleck and Alan Rickman, because you haven't I would love to see your reaction to it.
Christine Baranski did good work. But to skip right past the entire main cast, all of whom knocked it out of the park, and the terrific script to talk about her is a head-scratcher. Is she a personal acquaintance or something? (If so, that's cool.) And "let's watch other RDJ films" as the _first_ thing somebody wants to say in response to this movie is, like, Mindbrain-level odd.
I've always thought this should have been bigger than it was/is. One of the funniest Murphy performances. By design? Maybe it's just me, but... I want to watch this but to be able to hear the video 'we' are watching I have to turn up the volume so loud your comments scare the cats. If I turn your comments down it's watching you react to a near silent movie.
Thanks, Steven - I'll work on the audio mix going forward. Learning editing as I go with the channel, but that's a good note. Thank you for the info and the watch! - Greg
Very funny movie! If you want another "industry" flick try STATE AND MAIN. David Mamet (writer/director), William H. Macy, and a great cast. Alec Baldwin is hysterical. Early Julia Stiles. Patti LuPone, too.
I definitely am. I hate saying I'm an easy laugh (because in writer's circles that's not a great thing) but I am. The strangest things tickle me, but Steve and Eddie together in this just kills me. - Greg
so boring when there is a person who already knows the movie, ruining the first time watching reaction . The person who knows the movie takes all the leading role, laughs before the jokes, knows and repeats the dialogues... that inevitably conditions the other reaction :( I recommend you change the title: BOWFINGER (1999) - *HER* FIRST TIME WATCHING!! That way you won't disappoint people who are looking for a sincere, spontaneous and genuine reaction.
I will throw it on our growing list. I am aware of the film and a lot about its making (because I'm a film nerd) but I never actually saw it. Not sure if Des has. Thanks!
"I'm Keith!" - Can't wait to share this one with everyone.
This & 'The Spanish Prisoner', are my favorite Steve Martin movies. Both are highly under-appreciated.
Greg catches ALL the little details I missed - “listening to herself in the car” omg Easter egg 😂😂😂
I love that moment so much, it says EVERYTHING about her character (and actors in general) 😂 - Greg
YESSS!!! I loved how he pointed out the dog was trained in the earlier scene to “come” and “stay” - there were NO wasted moments in this flick 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right?!? One of my all time favorites, I'm so glad you enjoyed our reaction! - Greg
Heather Graham. Perfect casting.
She’ll forever be Mercedes Lane to me 🚗 - Des

My cousin and I saw this in the theater in Phoenix. We laughed so hard we almost were in the aisle.

I have prob watched this 20times and has me inhystetucs every damn time ...Eddie is impeccable
The freeway scene is one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever!
🤣😂🤣
Eddie Murphy was great in this movie.
So brilliant, right?? - Greg
The Parking Lot scene will always be gold for me.
I loved it when you saw the dog walking in high heels!
Thanks for reviewing this, such an underrated movie!
Thank YOU for watching!
A love song to scrappy industry failures and a deeeeep cut at the Scientologists pretty early on.
My favourite film of All Time!
Fabulous Actors , Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy , Heather Graham . Christine Baranski ( Lenards Mom )
I loved how Heather Graham, did the bad acting, with her movement, and went from person to person to promote her part!
There’s been celebrities who did the Kit Ramsey watching someone else try on the clothes who looks like them on Melrose Avenue back in the 90s

LA Story is my other favorite Los Angeles themed films that Steve did.
It's one we've both somehow missed, so it's on our list to do for sure!
AWESOME you did Bowfinger!!!!!!!
Great reaction, also about "Mindhead" - a TV series called The Mentalist (set in Cali) also had a slight dig at it with a group called Visualise.
Thanks! Love this movie - I'll have to check that Mentalist arc out!
If you think about "Chubby Rain," in this fictional world. It would be the most profitable film of all time.
100%!!
That was the storyline in Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978
@@videovillagereactionsmore like 1000% or 10,000% return on the budget (if the Chubby rain made between $2 million and $20 million).
Best movie ever and your reaction is top notch amazing!!
Thank you!

First - welcome to the writer's club! Being a new writer is never a bad thing, just keep grinding :) And second, I agree! It's such a fun movie.
@Video Village thanks!! I appreciate your channel for showing a peek behind the curtain.
Also, my favorite RDJ performance is a film called Heart & Souls from 1993.
The bow finger. Which finger is that? Hmm
Sooo funny, I was even laughing at the bits you had blurred out. Steve
It killed me to blur anything. I'm so glad you liked it! :)
Up next on the RDJ tour- 1994's Hail Caesar!
Going on our list!
Here for anything on the RDJ tour
Other industry-themed movies: The Last Shot (matthew broderick, alec baldwin).

First place I lived in LA was the Sofitel Hotel and the Pacific Design Center was my view. Every day I wondered why there was a spaceship in the middle of LA.
Put Baranski in any scene in any movie, without dialogue, and her reacting would elevate the scene.
Heather Graham did a very nude movie with the younger Fiennes brother. It was very artistic. ……
Cinema Nouveau. Ever seen Timecode ?
I’m sick of james brown songs in movies/media personally, but have you seen Liberty Heights ? Fantastic movie.
I think they should have gone with a hard pg13 or r and the film would have been perfect.
That would have been fun to see! - Greg
Robert Downey jr movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
One of my favorites! We actually reacted to it but it got blocked. We are thinking of trying to re-cut it for the holidays. - Greg
More RDJ? 'Heart and Souls' was my classic RDJ fave. It's got that Steve Martin 'All of Me' vibe.
That's one I've never seen. I've also shamefully never seen Chaplin. - Greg
You prefer alien love!
I use to interrupt my boss' and my husband's meetings this way. 😂
Could always tell who the real ones were by who laughed.
That's amazing! And totally something I would do :)
It's not a famous role, but RDJ was in a movie called "Heart and Souls". It's beloved to like 3 people, but we love it!
It's me! I'm one of the 3! - Des

@@githerax5303 I haven't seen it since it came out. Greg hasn't seen it. No, not familiar with "All of Me" - will have to ask Greg.
27:10 It's Ethel Merman! It's odd how Ethel Merman has been forgotten. In the 30's she was hot and later became a gay drag queen icon.
It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and Airplane. The bit in airplane is a single gag. Her role in MMMMW is bigger and frikkin’ hysterical.

We loved the whole cast! The RDJ reference is a joke, because we realized we'd watched several RDJ films up to that point - unplanned.

I feel like Steve Martin really wanted to make the movie about Ed Wood, but he lost out to Johnny Depp, so he made this instead.
