    Never forget Lavar said this first. Like he said. Lonzo was never injured training with him. He said these players don’t get pushed hard enough. Not training the body hard enough to push your body pass those normal limits that separate you from the amateurs.

      Daddy Ball had those kids going at it in the backyard hard on concrete. Also daddy Ball fed them pancakes and cereal carbs. Their protein came from McDonalds during high school off campus lunch breaks. Add that with poorly built shoes for real athletes. Over all, Ball Boys got by on being young and talented but when u get to the League your body is tested. Daddy failed those boys ob training and nutrition. Facts!!

      @@aarons2148I think you missed the point where Gil’s Arena and this comment we are replying to said that players nowadays aren’t training ENOUGH. They aren’t even pushing their bodies to half their limits because they barely train. Then they don’t want to play and load manage, then try and push their bodies when their bodies aren’t ready leading to injuries and everything

    I’m with McCants on this one, just doing resistance bands and body weight exercises don’t make you more durable for a long season. You have to build the muscle to protect the tendons from unpredictable movements that only can happen in game. Too often do we see “star” players injured early in the season because trainers train them as though they’re already in peak basketball shape while they lack core mobility and strength. But like McCants said, when you didn’t have a respectable career everyone invalidates your advice.

You rarely heard of guys in the 90’s with these soft tissue injuries - hamstrings, calf strains, abdominal strains and back spasm bc they trained like they were going to play. I got to comment on this topic. I played college ball in the 90's in Canada. Back on our day, we practiced at least 2 times a day. Weights in the morning, practice in the afternoon after classes. Our training was hard core!! Practicing with bricks in our hands during defense drills, running up and down the courts doing suicides, etc... During my career the only thing I had was twisted ankles and we still played through our pain. I hate to say it but my opinion of these players nowadays are not great!!! Maybe am old school but the fundamentals of the game is lost!! I don't see the dedication to the game! These over privilege players don't have the same drive as we did back in the day. Not to get it twisted, their are a handful of great players out there but the times are different now compared how we played in the 90's.
    If you didn't play defense, your not getting on the court.
    Plain and simple!

    Slides. All these kids today wear is slides. I don’t think people understand the simple things we do is what keeps our boys healthy. A full walking motion vs sliding your feet when you walk. Today young people stay in the house and play video games, sleep. When I was young we were always outside riding bikes, running and playing sports every day all day. We ate real food today they call organic. We didn’t drink soda all the time full of sugar. I remember drinking water a lot because we were outside and my grandmother had a cup and we run on the faucet. Get a drink and go back to playing or what ever we were doing. We played every sport almost every day. We had video games. We would play for about an hour and back outside. I see kids walking as slow as an 80 year old man. I see no muscle definition at all. The bottom line. Kids aren’t using their bodies like we did. As a result they are prone to injuries.

    I have a thought(s). The NBA has sped the game up and made rules that take away from being as physical when there was hand-checking. That means athletes have to come to a stop on their on volition versus being stopped vertically from encountering physical contact. Players are sacrificing building muscle for the sake of increasing speed. The other thing is that players are working with trainers in the off-season too much versus taking a break and not resting twice as much. One more thing. By the time players get to college, they have already played a professional career. You got college players and 3-4 year NBA players getting injuries that Mr. Arenas, Mr. Martin, and the other hosts should get if they were go hoop right now. That being said, it’s also the things that these guys have said in this podcast.

    All the games these guys played school and AAU, when they were adding up quicklym so if they enter the league at like 19, their body is playing as if it's like its in the mid-late 20s.
    The style of play is also putting a bunch of pressure on them.

    Resistence training strengthens not only your muscles but your joints and ligaments too and prepares the body to be able to handle greater loads so that you are covered when playing actual games, pushing them in practice would also prepare the body to be able to handle greater loads. Nowadays it's backwards, players experience the greatest load in actual games and take it easy in practice and lifting weights.

    I'm so happy they're talking about this. A lot of basketball players simply don't strength train and if they do they don't focus or take their lower body/posterior chain seriously like they would upper body. This is a big problem for most men who go to the gym and workout anyways.

    The reason injuries are happening so frequently actually does have a lot to with the current pace and style of game play now, and the toll it takes on the players' bodies, despite what's supposed to be better training, nutrition and recovery methods.
    The more physical and defensive style game play in the previous eras actually caused less wear tear on players's bodies than the now faster twitch muscle using more offensive orientated game play.
    In addition, players start to wear down their bodies at younger ages, playing too many AAU games, focusing in on one sport and not crossing training and playing multiple sports, which causes excess repetitive movements from training for one specific sport.
    Also, they don't go to or stay in college longer before going to the NBA and playing 82 games. Their bodies, skills, and games would develop better and properly if they went to and stayed in college at least 2 years before coming to the NBA.
    In addition, the types of workouts and training methods they do nowadays are ovely taxing on their bodies when added on top of all the games they play. There's too much of an emphasis coming from personal trainers or team trainers for players to become workout warriors and supreme condition physical specimens, with low body fat, as opposed to simply becoming a functional basketball player, who can stay healthy and be available to play each night.
    Regardless of how much technology they have to use to recover, they are still breaking down their bodies more and faster than they can actually fully recover from.
    Lastly, the emphasis on eating clean and healthy is overstated. These players burn a lot of calories working out, lifting weights, practicing, and playing all these overly taxing style games. But they're encouraged to eat lower calorie healthy foods, which don't seem to provide as the necessary amount of calorie intake and fuel to support all the physical activity they do.
    Seemingly, everything the previous generations had and did led to fewer injuries and more entertaining and diverse NBA basketball entertainment.

    • @penkima4923
      @penkima4923 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Today's era isn't the highest paced era. And the offense is often 5 players sitting at the perimeter, and spot up shooting. And the defense is non-existent. Overall, the game is far less physical. There should be far less wear and tear on their bodies.

    • @shawncain882
      @shawncain882 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @penkima4923 how can you read everything I wrote and think anything you say will alter my POV? Clearly, my mind is made up
      I don't believe you have a clear understanding of the previous eras of NBA basketball or even what I wrote. You didn't even state what era was the fastest pace to you, give your opinion as to why so many injuries are happening and only gave surface level run of mill talking points about no defense and an inaccurate assessment of the game play of today's NBA
      You should've just created your own separate post instead of replying on mine with overly simplistic points on a post that made an attempt to go deeper into unique talking points and a more sophisticated take/discussion.
