    We as Black women ARE always attacked. Yet, other cultures want to steal and imitate and deem it trendy smh. All the models looked a hot mess with them clothes, on another note.

    The funniest cultural appropriation that I heard of is boxer braids. AKA white people wearing corn rows

    • @ismahanm1118
      @ismahanm1118 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Marc Jacobs also claimed "mini buns" aka white ppl wearing Bantu knots in their hair. Smh..

    • @Topg1
      @Topg1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't mind non black people wearing African/black hairstyles. Do not hate on us for wearing our hair the way it is and the copy it?

    • @ismahanm1118
      @ismahanm1118 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Topg1 yeah or claim that it's a new style you've created.

    • @Lolasrice
      @Lolasrice 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      i just hate how it's unprofessional(in certain settings) for blacks to wear cornrows but it becomes a fucking trend when another race wears it.

    • @Topg1
      @Topg1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I agree. That's why its mess up. At times I think we are pressure to wear weaves and things by society(even black society) because that is the standard. There are cases of black women being fired for wear their hair in locks, cornrows, or fros.

    Preach my brother! I'm Afro"-Caribbean and the same shit is in our schools, black hair has to be kept "neatly''. when the Rastafarian community started growing in the Caribbean people were denied jobs and placement in schools, it still happens but its a bit more accepted now because its a religion. black people bodies are policed all over the world.

  • @lebom899
    @lebom899 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I'm South African and the deal with schools here is that as black girls, there are so many rules for us when it comes to hair. We're not allowed to ave our natural hair, dreadlocks, afro, 2 or more colours, etc. But the white kids are allowed to do all that. When we speak out, we're threatened with suspension or expulsion. I've have to experience this in all 4 schools I've been in. Now do you have any idea how fucked up it is to practically be illegal on your own land?

    See this is way I have not and will not purchase his merchandise. And by the way I don't think that this is his first time going down this road. I seem to recall some controversy surrounding another show that he had and his models wearing Bantu knots. Hmmmm,I'm just not here for is foolishness.

  • @isobellefaulkner854
    @isobellefaulkner854 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    People where mad at zendaya for having dreads but it's fine when it's a white person? Alrighty then and everyone saying that Celtics and Vikings had dreads that's not the point they didn't naturally have them they could have combed their dreads out, but some black people do naturally have dreads and they get discriminated against for having their natural hair... so of course they feel they have to straighten their hair because they are criticised for it and it's a shame because their natural hair is soooo beautiful, I'm white and even I can see the problem

    • @isobellefaulkner854
      @isobellefaulkner854 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also my hair is curly and thick so idk what he's talking about when it comes to black women with straight hair because straight hair don't belong to white peoples anyone can have straight hair

    Maybe INITIALLY, we (Black women) straightened our hair in order to conform to European beauty standards, but it's a new day & an overwhelming amount of us are embracing our own natural hair! Even still, we NEVER altered our hair with an intent to discredit, appropriate, or mock anyone with straight hair! THAT'S the difference, Marc Jacobs!!

    I like how you acknowledged the diversity within the black race. Rami Malek (mr. robot) is African (Egyptian). Troy Palamalu isn't black but he's Samoan which is technically Asian. John stamos is white. All races are diverse and I hope we can all love ourselves and each other.

    I agree. But, to me, after some critical thinking... I believe that race is a social construct. Race is based on status. Look at Asia, or Russia, or India... they call those below "Caste" "BLACK". In other words... if you are poor in these places, you are black. If you look at a black person, are we black? Literally? No. Is a white person actually white? No. Where did black and white even come from? That's the question we need to ask. I am Crucian/Caribbean-Afro-American. Not black. You are Afro-American. Not black. I'm unsubscribing from the race matrix. It's tiring. I do, however, still support standing up for "Black" lives, economy, cultures, flavors. I'll never stop supporting.

    I'm a black woman and I agree with Marc 😱😱😱 take out that damn straight hair before you criticise people for wearing locks!! Black women and weave and perm is such a norm they act like it naturally grows out their scalp like that! No honey, in reality your hair appropriating!!.....now that colour blind statement is nonsense.

    • @arieltaylor6070
      @arieltaylor6070 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      why does everyone assume that all black hair is 4c? i have 4c hair but not all of us have coily hair. there are plenty of black women with straighter hair types

    • @tiffanydash3609
      @tiffanydash3609 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ariel true...but u now the majority of black women are not wearing weave thinking their hair like "some" blacks...

    • @arieltaylor6070
      @arieltaylor6070 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tiffany Dash i will say i dont know what hair type is most prevalent in the black community. I will say that whenever we are depicted in the media without weave, etc, its almost always 4c hair thats shown and i think thats bc thats the message that the media wants to send. You know we have more flavors than a pack of skittles lol but they dont show all our shades and differences. They go for two types, thr mixed looking type, or the obviously black type. I say all that to say this: who knows....maybe 4c isnt the most prevalent hair type. How would we know otherwise when there are millions of us and im sure no statistician has taken interest in that. MJ is a racist POS. If he were so diverse he would feature lots more POC in his shows.

      hi Tiffany. I can honestly say that I have a corporate job, and when I wore box braids or natural hair styles I got pulled aside and told it was not professional. I want to be taken seriously and I want to grow economically, so I had to cover up my hair. please consider this. I love my natural fro but I want to keep my job.

    I agree with many of your points in this video but whilst jacobs response amy not have been appropriate and black women are critisced for wearing dreads, locks, etc. that shouldn't stop jacobs from featuring such styles in his show

    • @whatreallymatters571
      @whatreallymatters571 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you are choosing to be ignorant for the sake of fashion? It's cultural appropriation and its wrong.

  • @yolilyholo6626
    @yolilyholo6626 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    We're so over fed with American culture and Americans seem to think the world revolves around them, Marc Jacobs was inspired by British counterculture, specifically rave culture in the 80's and 90's which saw people attach multi coloured 'dread' like hair pieces to their hair. Please tell me how pastel coloured wool is a direct imitation of your hair.

    • @dont_pb
      @dont_pb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To offer a counter point: African American women have been wearing multicolored dreads for decades. This trend has existed even longer in Jamaica, another predominantly black culture. I only offer this information for additional context.
